Fault Diagnosis of Induction Motor by Fusion Algorithm based on PCA and IDA (PCA와 LDA에 기반을 둔 융합알고리즘에 의한 유도전동기의 고장진단)

  • In this paper, we propose a diagnosis algorithm using fusion wかd based on PCA and LDA to detect fault states of the induction motor that is applied to various industrial fields. After yielding a feature vector from the current value measured by an experiment using PCA and LDA, training data is made to produce each matching value. In a diagnostic step, two matching values yielded by PCA and LDA are fused by probability model and finally verified. Since the proposed diagnosis algorithm takes only merits of PCA and LDA it shows excellent results under noisy environments. The simulation results to verify the usability of the proposed algorithm showed better performance than the case just using conventional PCA or LDA.

A Study on the Deterioration Diagnosis of 600V Shielded Twisted Pair Control/Measurement Cable using Resonance Frequency (케이블 공진을 이용한 600V 제어/계측용 꼬임쌍선 차폐 케이블의 열화상태 진단에 대한 연구)

  • Recent major domestic facilities, such as nuclear power plants, many control cables are installed and are degraded by long-term use, but research on deterioration diagnosis is lacking. In the event of a fault in the cable due to deterioration can be developed into a major accident such as the main plant is stopped, so the deterioration diagnostic techniques of high reliability for the cable is required. In this paper, proposes a methodology using a cable resonance that can effectively diagnose the deterioration of the cable. Prior to the test, we developed a setup for stable measuring the characteristics of the cable and it verified the suitable of the measurement set-up in terms of interactivity and reliability, also measured S-parameters applying verified measurement set-up to the cables that deterioration degree is different. Then, we had amplified the difference in resonance frequency between the healthy state and the deteriorated state using connection in a series of measured S-parameters. In a result from the method, we have verified that the more deteriorate the cables is, the more decrease the resonance frequency is. Measured results are justified by inducing the resonance frequency calculation of the cable from the S- parameters represented by the hyperbolic function formula. VNA(Vector Network Analyzer) for S-parameter measurements used in this study is Agilent E5061B and shielded twisted-pair cables was used for deterioration diagnostic test.

  • This paper shows an intelligent disease diagnosis system for public. Our system deals with 30 diseases and their typical symptoms selected based on the report from Ministry of Health and Welfare, Korea. Technically, the system uses a modified FCM algorithm for clustering diseases and the input vector consists of the result of user-selected questionnaires. The modified FCM algorithm improves the quality of clusters by applying symmetrically measure based on the fuzzy theory so that the clusters are relatively sensitive to the shape of the pattern distribution. Furthermore, we extract the highest 5 diseases only related to the user-selected questionnaires based on the fuzzy membership function between questionnaires and diseases in order to avoid diagnosing unrelated disease.

Electrical/Mechanical Diagnosis of Local Deterioration in 600V Shielded Twist Pair Cable in a Nuclear Power Plant (원전용 600V 차폐 꼬임쌍선 케이블의 국부열화에 대한 전기적/기계적 진단)

  • In this paper, we propose a electrical/mechanical method to effectively diagnose the local deterioration of a 10m long power shielded twist pair cable defined by the American Wire Gauge (AWG) 14 specification using electrical/mechanical methods. The rapid deterioration of the cable proceeded by using the heating furnace, which is based on the Arrhenius equations proceeds from 0 to 35 years with the deteriorated equivalent model. In this paper, we introduce a method to diagnose the characteristics of locally deteriorated cable by using $S_{21}$ phase and frequency change rate measured by vector network analyzer which is the electrical diagnostic method. The measured $S_{21}$ phase and rate of change of frequency show a constant correlation with the number of years of locally deteriorated cable, thus it can be useful for diagnosing deteriorated cables. The change of modulus due to deterioration was measured by a modulus measuring device, which is defined by the ratio of deformation from the force externally applied to the cable, and the rate of modulus change also shows a constant correlation with the number of years of locally deteriorated cable. Finally, By combining the advantages of electrical/mechanical diagnostic methods, we can efficiently diagnose the local deterioration in the power shielded cable.

Four Year Surveillance of the Vector Hard Ticks for SFTS, Ganghwa-do, Republic of Korea

  • The seasonal abundance of hard ticks that transmit severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus was monitored with a collection trap method every April to November during 2015-2018 and with a flagging method every July and August during 2015-2018 in Ganghwa-do (island) of Incheon Metropolitan City, Republic of Korea. This monitoring was performed in a copse, a short grass field, coniferous forest and broad-leaved forest. A total of 17,457 ticks (8,277 larvae, 4,137 nymphs, 3,389 females, and 1,654 males) of the ixodid ticks comprising 3 species (Haemaphysalis longicornis, H. flava, and Ixodes nipponensis) were collected with collection traps. Of the identified ticks, H. longicornis was the most frequently collected ticks (except larval ticks) (94.26%, 8,653/9,180 ticks (nymphs and adults)), followed by H. flava (5.71%, 524/9,180) and Ix. nipponensis (less than 0.04%, 3/9,180). The ticks collected with collecting traps were pooled and assayed for the presence of SFTS virus with negative results. In addition, for monitoring the prevalence of hard ticks, a total of 7,461 ticks (5,529 larvae, 1,272 nymphs, 469 females, and 191 males) of the ixodid ticks comprising 3 species (H. longicornis, H. flava, and Ix. nipponensis) were collected with flagging method. H. longicornis was the highest collected ticks (except larval ticks) (99.53%, 1,908/1,917 ticks (nymphs and adults)), followed by H. flava (1.15%, 22/1,917).

  • This paper proposes an analytical redundancy technique for fault diagnostics of the sensor in steer-by-wire system. We use incorporating vehicle dynamics modeling into the design of a diagnostic system for steer-by-wire system. The use of a model of vehicle dynamics improves the speed and accuracy of the diagnoses. The proposed fault diagnostics algorithm is based on parity-space methods to generate residuals. To reduce the effects of modeling uncertainty and dynamic transients, the residuals are subject to filtering. We construct diagnostic system consisting residual threshold for detection and isolator with using the directional residual vector.

  • Since one property(i.e. coarseness, orientation, regularity, granularity etc.) of ultrasound liver images was not sufficiently enough to classify the characteristics of livers, we used the multi-feature vectors from ultrasound images to diagnose the liver disease. The proposed classifier, which uses the multi-feature vectors and Bayes decision rule, performed well for the classification of normal, fat and cirrhosis liver. In our simulation, we used the Battacharyya distance and Hotelling Trace Criterion to select the best multi-feature vectors for the classifier and obtained less classification errors than other methods using single feature vector.

A Study on Real-Time Vision-Based Detection of Skin Pigmentation

  • Usually, the skin pigmentation detection and diagnosis are made by clinicians. In this process it is subjective and non-quantitative. We develop an approach to detect and measure the different pigmentation lesions base on computer vision technology. In the paper we study several usually used skin-detecting color space like HSV, YCbCr and normalized RGB. We compare their performance with illumination influence for detecting the pigmentation lesions better. Base on a relatively stable color space, we propose an approach which is RGB channels vector difference characteristic for the detection. After the object region detection, we also use the difference to measure the difference between the lesion and the surrounding normal skin. From the experiment results, our approach can effectively detect the pigmentation lesion, and perform robustness with different illumination.

  • The abducens nerve paresis generally can aid in the presumptive diagnosis of abducens schwannoma along with the typical radiological features of schwannomas. The authors present a case of a 76-year-old male patient with a abducens schwannoma without abducens nerve paresis. Peroperatively, abducens nerve located in the cerebellopontine cistern had normal in contour and diameter, despite the mass originated from this nerve. We hypothesize that anatomic location of abducens nerve may affect the vector of tumor growth to prevent destruction of its origin, the abducens nerve.

  • Mucopolysaccharidosis type III (MPS III) or Sanfilippo disease is an orphan-inherited lysosomal storage disease. It is one of the most common MPS subtypes. The classical presentation is an infantile-onset neurodegenerative disease characterized by intellectual regression, behavioral and sleep disturbances, loss of ambulation, and early death. Unlike other MPS, no disease-modifying therapy has been approved. Here, we review the curative therapy developed for MPS III, from historically ineffective hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and substrate reduction therapy to the promising enzyme replacement therapy or adeno-associated/lentiviral vector-mediated gene therapy. Preclinical studies are presented with recent translational first-in-man trials. We also present experimental research with preclinical mRNA and gene-editing strategies. Lessons from animal studies and clinical trials have highlighted the importance of early therapy before extensive neuronal loss. Disease-modifying therapy for MPS III will likely mandate the development of new early diagnosis strategies.
