  • With the increasing complexity of man-made systems, computer simulation has become a widely used tool for the design and analysis of complex system. When computer simulation is used for the purpose of system design, the analysts want to develop strategies to achieve some pre-defined target condition for an output of interest while simultaneously minimizing its variance. The goal of this research is to develop and demonstrate a new method for the design of robust systems with multiple responses using the fuzzy satisfaction function and computer simulation experiments.

  • This paper deals with the finite wordlength effect on the performance of digital PID controllers. The finite wordlength, one of the major limitation factors in digital controllers, results on two kinds of quantization error : the signal quantization error and the coefficient quantization error. This paper derives the variance of the plant output due to the signal quantization error. Using stability margins as performance criterion, the statistical wordlength concept is adopted for coefficient wordlength selection. Finally, the experimental results exhibit satisfactory performance of the digital PID controller with statistical coefficient wordlength.

  • We are concerned with optimization methods for the $L^2$-Wasserstein least squares problem of Gaussian measures (alternatively the n-coupling problem). Based on its equivalent form on the convex cone of positive definite matrices of fixed size and the strict convexity of the variance function, we are able to present an implementable (accelerated) gradient method for finding the unique minimizer. Its global convergence rate analysis is provided according to the derived upper bound of Lipschitz constants of the gradient function.

  • Direct numerical simulations (DNSs) of ignition of lean primary reference fuel (PRF)/air mixtures under homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) conditions are performed using 116-species reduced chemistry. The influence of variations in the initial temperature field, imposed by changing the variance of temperature, and the fuel composition on ignition of lean PRF/air mixtures is studied using the displacement speed analysis.

  • An elasto-plastic stochastic finite element method is developed to evaluate the probability of failure of the underground structure. The Mohr-Coulomb failure criteria is adopted for yield condition. The material properties such as the elastic modulus and the cohesion are assumed to be statistically independent random variables which are modeled as spatial stochastic fields. The displacements around the excavated area and the probability of the failure are examined by varying the coefficient of variance for each variables. It is found that the developed procedure can provide the proper probabilistic information about the failure of the underground structure

  • Mechanical and physical properties of wood fiber for the reinforcement of thin-sheet cement products were investigated. The slurry-dewatering method followed by pressing was used to manufacture the products. Mechanical and physical properties of wood fiber reinforced cement composites were assessed with flexural strength, density, and water absorption. The results obtained in this study were analyzed statistically using the analysis of variance in order to derive statistically reliable conclusions.

Prioritizing Core Subjects in ISO 26000 for Achieving Corporate Social Responsibility (기업의 사회적 책임경영 구현을 위한 중점 추진요소)

  • Purpose: ISO 26000 is a newly emerging international standard for corporate social responsibility. This paper aims to derive core subjects of primary concern when introducing and practicing corporate social responsibility. Methods: Perceived performance and importance levels on core subjects in ISO 26000 are investigated, and a survey is conducted from members of organizations having published CSR reports. Frequency analysis, analysis of variance, cross tabulation and IP analysis are used to analyze surveyed data. Results: Items to be improved with high emphasis among 7 core subjects in ISO 26000 are organizational governance for public and private service sectors, fair operating practices for industrial goods manufacturing sectors, and organizational governance and environment for consumer goods manufacturing sectors. Human rights and labor practice are perceived as having high performances in comparison with importance. Conclusion: Organizations should find ways to build social responsibility into their governance systems and procedures with high priority.

  • In this paper, a control algorthm suitable for multi-objective control is proposed based on the orthogonal array which is normally used in statics and industrial engineering. And a newly defined Nthcertainty factor is suggested, which can effectively exclude the less confident rule. The Nth-certainty factor is defined by the F-values of the ANOVA(analysis of variance) table. It is shown that the algorithm can be successfully adopted to the design of controller for an active magnetic bearing system.
