  • A stationary Markov chain model is a stochastic process with the Markov property. Having the Markov property means that, given the present state, future states are independent of the past states. The Markov chain model has been widely used for water resources design as a main tool. A main assumption of the stationary Markov model is that statistical properties remain the same for all times. Hence, the stationary Markov chain model basically can not consider the changes of mean or variance. In this regard, a primary objective of this study is to develop a model which is able to make use of exogenous variables. The regression based link functions are employed to dynamically update model parameters given the exogenous variables, and the model parameters are estimated by canonical correlation analysis. The proposed model is applied to daily rainfall series at Seoul station having 46 years data from 1961 to 2006. The model shows a capability to reproduce daily and seasonal characteristics simultaneously. Therefore, the proposed model can be used as a short or mid-term prediction tool if elaborate GCM forecasts are used as a predictor. Also, the nonstationary Markov chain model can be applied to climate change studies if GCM based climate change scenarios are provided as inputs.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the causal relationships between turnover intention and its influencing factors among married female nurses. The participants included 148 married nurses at 5 general hospitals in J city. Data were collected by using self-reported questionnaires and were analyzed by using SPSS and AMOS software. The overall fitness of the modified path model to the data was good ($x^2/df=0.002$, GFI = 1.00, AGFI = 1.00, RMSEA = 0.00, NFI = 1.00, CFI = 1.00, TLI = 1.09). Job stress, social support, work-family conflict, and burnout explained 32.0% of the variance in turnover intention of the participants. In particular, work-family conflict had a complete mediating effect between job stress and burnout. In addition, work-family conflict had partial mediating effects between social support and burnout as well as between social support and turnover intention. Social support had direct and indirect effects on work-family conflict, burnout, and turnover intention. In conclusion, strategies for decreasing married nurses' burnout and turnover intention should focus on reducing work-family conflict and increasing social support.

  • Data often include missing values due to various reasons. If the missing data mechanism is not MCAR, analysis based on fully observed cases may an estimation cause bias and decrease the precision of the estimate since partially observed cases are excluded. Especially when data include many variables, missing values cause more serious problems. Many imputation techniques are suggested to overcome this difficulty. However, imputation methods using parametric models may not fit well with real data which do not satisfy model assumptions. In this study, we review imputation methods using nonlinear models such as kernel, resampling, and spline methods which are robust on model assumptions. In addition, we suggest utilizing imputation classes to improve imputation accuracy or adding random errors to correctly estimate the variance of the estimates in nonlinear imputation models. Performances of imputation methods using nonlinear models are compared under various simulated data settings. Simulation results indicate that the performances of imputation methods are different as data settings change. However, imputation based on the kernel regression or the penalized spline performs better in most situations. Utilizing imputation classes or adding random errors improves the performance of imputation methods using nonlinear models.

  • The present study explored psychological factors related to the desire to have children of young adults who had yet to marry and begin a family. To do so, the present study investigated the relationships among the desire to have children, adult attachment styles and belief in a just world (DJ-self, PJ-self, DJ-others, and PJ-others). This study analyzed the self-reported data of 260 adults aged 20 to 39. Hierarchical regression analysis revealed that after controlling for gender, individuals with more avoidant models of close adult relationships showed less desire to have children. Moreover, the belief in a just world accounted for an additional variance. Specifically, participants' PJ-others positively predicted their desire to have children. These results suggest that individuals' expectations about close relationships and justice of their society might explain a part of their desire to have children. The implications, limitations, and future directions of the study were discussed.

  • This study is a descriptive research to identify the factors that influence blood donation intentions of the middle-aged firefighters and prison officer based on Ajzen's (1991) planned behavior theory. The subjects of the study were 223 middle-aged firefighters and prison officer at a fire station and prison located in G City and District B. The Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Turkey, and multiple regression with the SPSS 21.0 program. There were statistically significant differences in blood donation intention according to the blood donation experience, attempted blood donation within a year, participate plan in blood donation within 3 months. The blood donation intention of middle aged showed significant positive correlations with attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control towards blood donation. Multiple regression analysis for blood donation intention revealed that the significant predictors were participate plan in blood donation within 3 months, perceived behavior control, subjective norms, attitude towards blood donation, and attempted blood donation within a year. These factors explained 69% of the variance. In order to enhance the middle aged's intention to blood donation, we need a program that can improve middle aged's attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavior control.

  • This study investigated the correlation between physicochemical (color, soluble solids content (SSC), pH, titratable acidity (TA), and firmness) and sensory (appearance, taste, odor, and texture) characteristics of environment-friendly 'Campbell early' grapes to identify quality indices. For analysis, samples of similar-sized grapes were collected from five orchards. The results showed that the physicochemical characteristics of CIE $L^*$, CIE $a^*/b^*$, SSC, pH, TA, and firmness and the sensorial characteristics of color intensity, freshness of stem, odor, sourness, sweetness, and elasticity were different among groups. Correlation analysis results showed that an increase in sweetness and firmness and a decrease in sourness were associated with an increase in overall acceptance. Sourness and sweetness were positively correlated with CIE $L^*$ (r=0.88) and firmness (r=0.95), individually. In the principal component analysis results, component F1 and F2 explained 44.35% and 33.77%, respectively, of the total variance (78.12%). F1 represented firmness, sweetness, elasticity, hardness, grape odor, color intensity, sweet odor, sourness, and damage degree. F2 represented CIE $L^*$, TA, CIE $a^*$, CIE $a^*/b^*$, SSC/TA, SSC, and peel thickness. The results showed that consumer acceptance of 'Campbell early' grapes can be determined by assessing physicochemical attributes of firmness, CIE $L^*$, TA, CIE $a^*$, CIE $a^*/b^*$, SSC/TA, and SSC and various sensorial attributes including sweetness, fruit elasticity, fruit hardness, grape odor, and color intensity.
