  • Pole assignment controller with variable forgetting factor is generalizaed to allow the output and/or input variance to be reduced. The algorithm can give significant reductions in variance for little extra computational effort and is presented for servo-tracking using leat-squares estimation. Moreover, the use of a variable forgetting factor with correct choice of information bound can avoid 'blowing-up' of the covariance matrix of the estimates and subsequent unstable control.

  • In this paper, we propose a interval censored regression spline model with a variance function (non-constant variance that depends on a predictor). Simulation studies show our estimates from MCECM algorithm are consistent, but biased when the sample size is small because of boundary effects. Also, we examined how the distribution of $x_i$ affects the converging speed of these consistent estimates.

  • We obtain the minimum variance unbiased estimate of system reliability when a system consists of n components whose life times are assumed to be independent and identically distributed either negative exponential or geometric random variables. For the case of a negative exponential life time, we obtain the minimum variance unbiased estimate of the probability density function of the i-th order statistic.

  • Control Variate (CV) is very useful technique for variance reduction in a wide class of queueing network simulations. However, the loss in variance reduction caused by the estimation of the optimum control coefficients is an increasing function of the number of control variables. Therefore, in some situations, it is required to select an optimal set of control variables to maximize the variance reduction . In this paper, we develop the Adaptive Control Variates (ACV) method which selects an optimal set of control variates during the simulation adatively. ACV is useful to maximize the simulation efficiency when we need iterated simulations to find an optimal solution. One such an example is the Simulated Annealing (SA) because, in SA algorithm, we have to repeat in calculating the objective function values at each temperature, The ACV can also be applied to the queueing network optimization problems to find an optimal input parameters (such as service rates) to maximize the throughput rate with a certain cost constraint.

  • This paper is concerned with the design of a suboptimal Kalman filter with robust state estimation performance for system models represented in the state space, which are subjected to parameter uncertainties in both the state and measurement matrices. Under the assumption that the uncertain system is quadratically stable, if the augmented system composed of the uncertain system and the filter is controllable, the proposed filter can provide the upper bound of the estimation error variance for all admissible uncertain parameters. This upper bound can be represented as the convex function of a parameter introduced in the design procedure, and the optimized upper bound of the estimation error variance can also be found via the optimization of this convex function.

  • A Bayesian estimation of the Nakagami-m fading parameter is developed. Bayesian estimation is performed by Gibbs sampling, including adaptive rejection sampling. A Monte Carlo study shows that the Bayesian estimators proposed outperform any other estimators reported elsewhere in the sense of bias, variance, and root mean squared error.

  • This paper deals with some fundamental matters pertaining to estimation of critical quantities associated with continuous processes which are frequently related to the quality rating of the product. Specifically, it examines bounds on estimation and bounds on the estimation error variance. It draws on recent results from the theory of mathematical inequalities and their applications.

  • Small area estimation is a statistical inference method to overcome the large variance due to the small sample size allocated in a small area. Recently some nonparametric estimators have been applied to small area estimation. In this study, we suggest a nonparametric mixed effect small area estimator using kernel smoothing and compare the small area estimators using labor statistics.

  • The development of Minimum Norm Quadratic Unbiased Estimation (MINQUE) has introduced a unified approach for the estimation of variance components in general linear models. The computational problem has been studied by Liu and Senturia (1977) and Goodnight (1978, setting a-priori values to 0). This paper further simplifies the computation and gives efficient and compact computational algorithm for the MINQUE and dispersion matrix in general linear random model.

  • Optimal input design problem for linear regression model with constrained output variance has been considered. It is shown that the optimal input signal for the linear regression model can also be realized as an ARMA process. Monte-Carlo simulation results show that the optimal stochastic input leads to comparatively better estimation accuracy than white input signal.
