Three Dimensional Dynamic Added Variable Plots

  • Graphical methods for the specification of the curvature as a function of two predictors are animated to see the effect of an added variable to the model. Through a 3D animated plot it might be difficult to find a sequence of interpretable plots. But examples demonstrate that useful information can be obtained by using rotation technique in 3D plot. Besides 3D plots, an example of 2D animated plot applied to the case of high correlation between predictors and an added predictor is also given. It implies that speed of the convergence to a certain image in a dynamic plot may be understood as an influence of collinearity.

  • This study presents a new type of real-t~me CNC interpolator that is capable of generating cutter paths for ball-end milling of NURBS surfaces. The proposed surface interpolator comprises real-time algorithms for cutter-contact (CC) path scheduling and CC path interpolation. Especially, in this study, a new interpolator module to regulate cutting forces is developed. This proposed algorithm utilizes variable-feedrate commands according to the curvature of machined surfaces. The proposed interpolator is evaluated and compared with the conventional method based on constant feedrates through computer simulation.

칩브레이커의 형상과 절삭조건이 칩 절단과 표면거칠기에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Chip Breaker Shape and Cutting Condition on the Chip Breaking and Surface Roughness)

  • Chip breaking is important in lathe work for maintaining good surface of the products and safety of operator. The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance of chip breaking and chip shape resulted from the carbide inserts with grooved type and obstruction type chip breaker. Experiments have been performed under the following cutting conditions, (1) constant cutting speed with variable depth of cut and feed rate, (2) constant depth of cut with variable cutting speed and feed rate. Also, the flying distance of chip and it's distribution have been investigated. As a results, good performance of chip breaking can be obtained for small radius of curvature and land width of grooved type chip breaker. And the thickness of chip increase with the increase of feed rate and decrease of cutting speed, and the chip breaking becomes easier with the increase of chip thickness due to the large deformation rate. Obstraction type chip breaker shows better performance of surface roughness than the grooved type. The flying distance of the chips over 90% are less than 1 meter, and the distance decreases as the feed rate decreases.

3차원 측정기를 이용한 자유곡면 측정시 최적의 경로 결정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Optimal Probe Path Generation for Sculptured Surface Inspection Using the Coordinate Measuring Machine)

  • The objective of this research is to develop an effective inspection planning strategy for sculptured surfaces by using 3-dimensional Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). First, the CAD/CAM database is generated by using the Bezier surface patch mathod and variable cutter step size approach for design and machining of the workpiece model. Then, optimum measuring point locations are determained based on the mean curvature analysis to obtain more effective inspection results for the given sample numbers. An optimal probe sequence generation method is proposed by implementing the Traveling Salesperson (TSP) algorithm and new guide point selection methods are suggested based on the concepts of the variable distance between the first and second guide points. Finally, simulation study and experimental work show the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

가변곡률을 가진 나선형 블레이드 제작을 위한 원추형 롤 성형 공정설계 (Process Design of Conical Roll-Shaping for Fabrication of Variable Curvature Spiral Blade)

  • A conical roll-shaping process was proposed for fabrication of a metallic spiral blade applied to a small-scale wind turbine system. A spiral blade has continuously different curvatures, with a range of 100 to 350 mm radius. To fabricate this complex shape, we developed a conical roll-shaping process having two main conical rollers for feeding a blank sheet, and two cylindrical side rollers for control of local bending. For clear understanding of the process parameters, numerical analyses were conducted using a commercial code, Pam-Stamp. This study optimized the effects of process parameters, such as gap and angle between the main rollers and side rollers, and also the movement of side rollers. In order to increase the forming efficiency, a central rotation point was also calculated by the analytical approach. This developed rolling process can thus be utilized in a sheet metal forming process for obtaining spirally curved sheet metal shapes.

비직교 좌표변환에 의한 선회연소기내 난류재순환유동의 수치해석 (Numerical analysis of turbulent recirculating flow in swirling combustor by non-orthogonal coordinate transformation)

  • 본 연구에서는 계단형 벽면조건을 없게 하기 위해서 비직교 좌표계(non-orth- ogonal coordinate system)를 사용하여 수치해석하였다. 비직교 좌표계를 이용한 수 치해석의 예는 Thompson등이 Laplace방정식 혹은 Poisson방정식을 해석함으로써 비직 교 격자망을 구성한 바 있고, Fahgri와 Asako는 대수적 비직교 좌표변환으로 유한차분 방정식을 유도하여 비정규경계면을 갖는 관로에서의 유동특성을 해석하였으며 이재헌 과 이상렬은 Fahgri와 Asako의 방법을 비정규경계면을 갖는 밀폐공간내에서의 자연대 류의 수치해석에 적용한 바 있다. 본 해석에서도 Fahgri와 Asako의 변환법으로 유한 차분방정식을 유도하였는데, 이 방법을 사용할 경우 확대관의 경사벽면을 계단형으로 만들지 않고 유한차분방정식을 유도할 수 있어서 계단형 벽면으로 인한 해의 오차를 제거할 수 있다. Fig.2는 본 해석에서 사용한 비직교 격자망을 나타낸다.

  • 본 연구는 유한한 회전의 2차항을 고려한 변위장에 기초하여 변곡률을 가지는 비대칭 박벽곡선보의 해석이론을 제시한다. Vlasov의 가정에 의한 연속체의 선형화된 가상일의 원리로부터 총 포텐셜 에너지를 유도하고, 모든 변위 파라미터와 ? 함수는 도심에서 정의된다. 절점당 8개의 자유도를 가지는 박벽곡선보 요소의 개발 과정에서 3차 Hermitian 다항식이 형상함수로 이용된다. 본 연구의 타당성과 정확도를 입증하기 위하여, 일축대칭 단면을 갖는 포물선과 타원형상의 곡선보를 선택하여 3차원 자유진동해석과 안정성 해석을 수행한다. 그리고 이 결과를 ABAQUS의 쉘 요소에 의한 것과 비교한다.

Analysis-oriented model for seismic assessment of RC jacket retrofitted columns

  • One of the most common strategies for retrofitting as-built reinforced concrete (RC) columns is to enlarge the existing section through the application of a new concrete layer reinforced by both steel transverse and longitudinal reinforcements. The present study was dedicated to developing a comprehensive model to predict the seismic behavior of as-built RC jacketed columns. For this purpose, a new sectional model was developed to perform moment-curvature analysis coupled by the plastic hinge method. In this analysis-oriented model, new methodologies were suggested to address the impacts of axial, flexural and shear mechanisms, variable confining pressure, eccentric loading, longitudinal bar buckling, and varying axial load. To consider the effective interaction between core and jacket, the monolithic factor approach was adopted to extent the response of the monolithic columns to that of a respective RC jacket strengthened column. Next, parametric studies were implemented to examine the effectiveness of the main parameters of the RC jacket strategy in retrofitting as-built RC columns. Ultimately, the reliability of the developed analytical model was validated against a series of experimental results of as-built and retrofitted RC columns.

고강도콘크리트 구조부재의 변위해석시스템 개발연구 (The Development of Displacement Analysis System in High Strength Concrete Members)

  • 고강도콘크리트(압축강도 400-700kgf/cm/sup 2)를 이용한 구조물의 강도성능과 휨변형을 정확히 구하는 해석방법을 제안하는 것이 본 연구의 목적으로서, 재료특성을 모델화하기 위하여 희귀분석을 이용한 고강도콘크리트의 응력-변형률관계와 사다리꼴 응력모델을 검토하여 그 적용성을 확인하였다. 내력과 변형의 해석방법으로서는 단면을 요소분할하여 재료의 응력-변형률관계를 이용한 모멘트-곡률관계의 해석을 이용하였다. 여기서 본 연구는 재료특성의 불확정 변수와 해석시의 반복계산에 의한 오차를 최소화하기 위하여 확률적 개념을 이용한 몬테카를로 시뮬레이션의 방법을 도입하여 내력 및 변위성능을 합리적으로 평가하였다.

Elastic buckling of end-loaded, tapered, cantilevered beams with initial curvature

  • The elastic deflections and Euler buckling loads are investigated for a class of tapered and initially curved cantilevered beams subjected to loading at the tip. The beam's width increases linearly and its depth decreases linearly with the distance from the fixed end to the tip. Unloaded, the beam forms a circular are perpendicular to the axis of bending. The beam's deflection responses, obtained by solving the differential equations in closed form, are presented in terms of four nondimensional system parameters: taper ratio ${\kappa}$, initial shape ratio ${\Delta}_0$, end load ratio f, and load angle ${\theta}$. Laboratory measurements of the Euler buckling loads for scale models of tapered initially straight, corrugated beams compared favorably with those computed from the present analysis. The results are applicable to future designs of the end structures of highway guardrails, which can be designed to give the appropriate balance between the capacity to deflect a nearly head-on vehicle back to its right-of-way and the capacity to buckle sufficiently that penetration of the vehicle may be averted.
