  • In this paper, a lateral vehicle control using the concept of control configured vehicle (CCV) is presented. The control objectives for the lateral dynamics of a vehicle include the ability to follow a chosen variable without significant motion change in other specified variables. The analysis techniques for decoupling of the aircraft motions are utilized to develop vehicle lateral control with advanced mode. Vehicle lateral dynamic is determined to have the steering input and control torque input. The additional vehicle modes are also defined to using CCV concept. We use right eigenstructure assignment techniques and command generator tracker to design a control law for an lateral vehicle dynamics. The desired eigenvectors are chosen to achieve the desired decoupling (i.e., lateral direction speed and yaw rate). The command generator tracker is used to ensure steady-state tracking of the driver's command. Finally, the developed design is utilized by using the lateral vehicle dynamic with four wheel.

  • A numerically efficient modification of a variable step size LMS (Least Mean Squares) algorithm is proposed. This proposed algorithm is very simple in calculation and has a variable step size adjusted by the filter output error. Its additional computational burden with respect to the conventional LMS algorithm is only two multiplications, two substraction, an addition and some bit operations. In a simulation example, it is shown that the proposed algorithm has not only the faster convergence rate but also less misadjustments in the environment of highly nonstationary and correlated data.

  • The superplastic deformation characteristics is powder metallurgy(PM) Al-Li alloy has been studied within the framework of a recently proposed internal variable theory of superplasticity(SSP). The flow curves were obtained by performing a series of load relaxation tests at the temperature range from 45$0^{\circ}C$ to 52$0^{\circ}C$ It has been found that the overall flow curves were separated into the grain boundary sliding(GBS) and the accommodating dislocation glide processes/ The tensile curves were also obtained to clarify the superplastic deformation bahavior of PM Al-Li alloy. The microstructural features of PM AL-Li alloy have been examined through the transmission electron microscopy.

  • R-curve based on the size effect law previously developed for geometrically similar specimens (geometry type III) is extended to geometries with variable depth (geometry type I) as well as with variable notch (geometry type II), where the R-curve is defined as the envelope of the family of critical strain energy release rates from specimens of different sizes. The results show that the extended R-curve for type I tends to be the same for different specimen configurations, while it is greatly dependent on specimen geometry in terms of the initial crack length. Furthermore, the predicted load-deflection responses from the suggested R-curve are found to agree well with the testing results on concrete and rock materials. Besides, maximum loads for type II specimen are predicted well from the extended R-curve.

  • In this paper, flyout stability of missile that is launched in inclined launcher using sabots is analyzed. To include missile bending motion during flyout, FEA model of missile is converted into eight concentrated mass and equivalent stiffness matrix. Six d.o.f ship motion that have influence on flyout stability is modeled and missile firing time is modeled as probability variable to take arbitrary ship attitude into account. Gap between missile and sabot is modeled as normal distribution probability variable and Monte Carlo simulation is performed. As results, the coriolis acceleration effects by ship motion are analyed and statistical results of missile pitch rate are shown.

  • Spray casting of hypereutectic Al-Si based alloy has been reported to provide distinct advantages over ingot metallurgy (IM) or rapid solidification/powder metallurgy (RS/PM) process in terms of microstructure refinement. Hypereutectic Al-Si based alloys have been regarded attractive for automotive and aerospace application, due to high specific strength, good wear resistance, low coefficient of thermal expansion, high thermal stability, and good creep resistance. In this study, hypereutectic Al-25Si-2.0Cu-1.0Mg alloy was prepared by OSPREY spray casting process. High temperature deformation behavior of the hypereutectic Al-Si based alloy has been investigated by applying the internal variable theory proposed by Chang et al. The change of strain rate sensitivity and Creep transition were analyzed by using the load relaxation test and constant creep test.

  • Metal pipes are used in a wide range of applications, from plumbing systems of large construction sites to small devices such as medical tools. When a liquid is enforced to flow through a metal pipe, a higher flow rate is beneficial for higher efficiency. Using high pressures can enhance the flow rate yet can be harmful for medical applications. Thus, we consider an optimal geometrical design to increase the flow rate in medical devices. In this study, we focus on cannulas, which are widely used small metal pipes for surgical procedures, such as liposuction. We characterize the internal flow rate driven by a negative pressure and explore its dependence on the key design parameters. We quantitatively analyze the suction characteristics for each design variable by conducting computational fluid dynamics simulations. In addition, we build a suction performance measurement system which enables the translational motion of cannulas with pre-programmed velocity for experimental validation. The inner diameter, section geometry, and hole configuration are the design factors to be evaluated. The effect of the inner diameter dominates over that of section geometry and hole configuration. In addition, the circular tube shape provides the maximum flow rate among the elliptical geometries. Once the flow rate exceeds a critical value, the rate becomes independent of the number and width of the suction holes. Finally, we introduce a slippery liquid-infused nanoporous surface (SLIPS) coating using nanoparticles and hydrophobic lubricants that effectively improves the flow rate and antifouling property of cannulas without altering the geometrical design parameter.

  • Multimedia data services have been widely developed with the recent progression of the Internet technology. Multimedia services, especially, must guarantee Quality of Service with restricted environment resources. The abrupt increase of transmission quanta, so called burst, and the number of client that access multimedia server, with limited network bandwidth will demage the quality of service and the utilization of network resource. Smoothing techniques can reduce the burst of a variable bit rate stream by transmitting data at a series of fixed rates. In this paper, we present a new smoothing algorithm using MPEG's characteristics in transmitting stored video data with VBR. The smoothing algorithm we present will be verified with assorted existing techniques in diverse environments.

  • A revenue sharing contract is one of the mechanisms that coordinate decision makers in a decentralized supply chain toward the consensual goal. The transfer prices between different echelons in the supply chain influence the total supply chain profits. The study aims to explore various transfer pricing heuristics on the supply chain coordination in terms of the supply chain profits and their interactions with the revenue sharing rate. A model is proposed for formulating the collaborative production and distribution planning in a decentralized supply chain with the revenue sharing mechanism. Experiment results indicate that the transfer price and the revenue sharing rate affect significantly the coordination. Among the studied pricing heuristics, the variable-cost pricing method led to the best SC profits. Raising the revenue sharing rate reduced the SC profits no matter what heuristics were employed. Furthermore, the experiments provide us clues for finding the optimal transfer price for the supply chain.
