  • The detection of engine misfire events is one of major concerns in engine control due to its negative effect on air pollution and engine performance. In this paper, a misfire detection system based on crankshaft angular speed fluctuation is developed. Synthetic variable method is adopted for the preprocessing of crankshaft angular speed. This method successfully estimates the work output of each cylinder by finding the effect of combustion energy on the crankshaft rotational speed or acceleration after virtually removing the effect of the internal inertia forces from the measured crankshaft speed signals. The detection system is developed using neural network with the revised synthetic angular acceleration as input which is derived from the preprocessing. Mathematical simulation is carried out for developing and verifying the misfire detection system. Finally, the reliability of the developed system is validated through an experiment.

Modeling and Simulation for a Tractor Equipped with Hydro-Mechanical Transmission

  • Purpose: A simulator for the design and performance evaluation of a tractor with a hydro-mechanical transmission (HMT) was developed. Methods: The HMT consists of a hydro-static unit (HSU), a swash plate control system, and a planetary gear. It was modeled considering the input/output relationship of the torque and speed, and efficiency of HSU. Furthermore, a dynamic model of a tractor was developed considering the traction force, running resistance, and PTO (power take off) output power, and a tractor performance simulator was developed in the co-simulation environment of AMESim and MATLAB/Simulink. Results: The behaviors of the design parameters of the HMT tractor in the working and driving modes were investigated as follows; For the stepwise change of the drawbar load in the working mode, the tractor and engine speeds were maintained at the desired values by the engine torque and HSU stroke control. In the driving mode, the tractor followed the desired speed through the control of the engine torque and HSU stroke. In this case, the engine operated near the OOL (optimal operating line) for the minimum fuel consumption within the shift range of HMT. Conclusions: A simulator for the HMT tractor was developed. The simulations were conducted under two operation conditions. It was found that the tractor speed and the engine speed are maintained at the desired values through the control of the engine torque and the HSU stroke.

  • 흡습에 따른 엔진 성능 변화량을 예측하기 위하여 모든 엔진 형식에 적용 가능한 체계적인 습도 보정 방법을 개발하였다. 우선 기존의 습도 보정 방법에 대한 적용 한계를 분명히 한 다음 흡습에 따른 엔진 구성품들의 성능 변화를 고려하고 엔진 제어 방식에 따라 구성품들간의 공력 재결합을 통하여 엔진 작동점의 변화를 계산하는 새로운 방법을 제시하였다. 단축 터보제트 엔진을 대상으로 두 가지 방법에 의한 습도 보정 내용을 비교 분석하여 기존의 방법은 회전수와 같은 물리적 성능 변수를 제어하는 경우에는 적용하기가 어렵다는 점을 밝혔다. 새로운 습도 보정 방법은 엔진 제어 방식이나 엔진 형식에 구애받지 않으나 기존의 방법은 엔진 제어 모드 및 엔진 형식에 따라 그 정확성이 크게 차이가 낱 수 있음을 확인하였다.

소형 고속 SI 엔진에서 SCV의 연비저감 효과에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Decrease Fuel Consumption of SCV in a High Speed Small SI Engine)

  • 실험에 사용된 엔진은 $3000\~12000$ RPM의 광범위한 회전수범위를 가지고 있어 엔진성능을 향상시키기 위해서는 다양한 제어장치가 필요하다. SCV는 저회전수에서 엔진의 성능을 개선시키기 위한 방법 중의 하나로 자주 언급되어지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 소형고속엔진에 SCV를 장착하여 저회전수 범위에서 SCV가 엔진에 미치는 영향에 대해 조사하였다. 실험에서는 4valve SOHC 공랭식 단기통 엔진에 SCV의 형상에 따른 스월 강도, 출력, 연료소비율, 배기가스를 조사하였다 그 결과 SCV의 사용 가능 범위 5000 RPM에서 연료소비율 $9\%$의 저감효과를 보았다.

CVT Ratio Control for Improvement of Fuel Economy by Considering Powertrain Response Lag

  • A high level CVT ratio control algorithm is proposed to improve the engine performance by considering the powertrain response lag. In this algorithm, the desired CVT speed ratio is modified from the vehicle velocity, which is estimated after the time delay due to the powertrain response lag. In addition, the acceleration map is constructed to estimate the vehicle acceleration from the throttle pedal position and the CVT ratio. Using the CVT ratio control algorithm and the acceleration map, vehicle performance simulations are performed to evaluate the engine performance and fuel economy. It is found that the fuel economy can be improved about 3.6% for FUDS by the ratio control algorithm for the target vehicle. In selecting the appropriate time delay, compromise between the fuel economy and the acceleration performance is required.

  • An electrical power generation system driven by main engine shaft, briefly SG system for middle or small size fishing boat is studied experimently. In the SG system, power transmission is performed by a variable displacement hydraulic pump driven by the main engine and a constant displacement hydraulic motor. It was verified that the SG system enabled the generation of electrical power with constant frequency regardless main engine speed. In the SG system, setting reference frequency, sensing generator output frequency and setting controller parameters are performed by performed by programming in a microcomputer, so a countermeasure for physical situations of control object is very easy. Futhermore, the SG system has following features; low initial installation cost, wide freedom of installation in engine room, advantage of application in existing ships, especially fishing boat with hydraulic fishing equipments.

  • Recently, it is required that the automotive air conditioning system must keep the cabin temperature comfortable in spite of engine speed, and Improve the fuel consumption during all the seasons. To satisfy these requirements, the variable displacement swash plate type compressor with control pressure valve is developed. In this study, the effects of two type valves, suction pressure control valve and differential pressure control valve, on the performance of swash plate type compressor has been investigated experimentally.

전자 제어 CVT 차량의 변속제어전략 (Shift Control Strategy for Electric Controlled CVT Vehicle)

  • In this paper, static and dynamic shift control stategies of CVT speed ratio are suggested. For the static shift control, in order to operate engine on the optimal operating region, a fuzzy control logic is used. In the fuzzy logic, S- factor that is defined as a degree of sportiness is introduced. Simulation results show that the static shift control strategy based on the fuzzy logic selects the optimal operating point automatically between the economy and the sporty mode corresponding to the driver's desire and the driving condition. For the dynamic shift control strategy, a shift speed map is suggested which determines the shift sped as fast or slow based on Δi, the difference between the desired speed ratio id and the actual speed ratio i, and throttle opening. It is seen from the simulation results that the CVT shift speed is determined by the dynamic shift control strategy to provide appropriate performance and comfort for the driver's demand and driving condition. Additionally, experiments are performed to investigate the dynamic performance of the shift speed for the lift foot up. From the experimental results, it is found that improved shift feeling can be obtained by the dynamic shift control strategy when lift foot up occurs.

  • This paper describes a hybrid dynamic system(HDS) modeling method and result for the drivertrain of a parallel hybrid electric vehicle(PHEV) which consists of a gasoline engine, an electric machine, and a continuous variable transmission (CVT) and proposes a drivetrain control system. The control system has an engine controller, a motor controller, a CVT controller and a supervisory controller for the coordination of all system. The controller keep the speed of engine wheel and the output torque within the optimal operation range based on the experimental data. We also developed a MATLAB/SIMULINK program for the performance simulation of PHEV drivetrain model and controllers and compared the simulation result with the experiment result in the recent literatures.

  • In this paper, we suppose a fuzzy logic controller for cruise control of vehicle. Generally, fuzzy logic controller is known as a controller which can be coped with a non-linear and a complex system. The proposed fuzzy logic controller consists of three input variables; that is, a desired speed, a current vehicle speed, and a current acceleration, and one output variable, throttle angle. The supposed fuzzy logic controller is for engine speed control system is implemented on 80586 microprocessor with DT-2801.
