Thermomechanical analysis of antisymmetric laminated reinforced composite plates using a new four variable trigonometric refined plate theory

  • The thermo-mechanical bending behavior of the antisymmetric cross-ply laminates is examined using a new simple four variable trigonometric plate theory. The proposed theory utilizes a novel displacement field which introduces undetermined integral terms and needs only four variables. The validity of the present model is proved by comparison with solutions available in the literature.

  • A simple solution for free vibration of cross-ply and angle-ply laminated composite plates in a thermal environment is investigated using a basic trigonometric shear deformation theory. By application of trigonometric four variable plate theory, the transverse displacement is subdivided into bending and shear components, the present theory's number of unknowns and governing equations is reduced, making it easier to use. Hamilton's Principle is extended to derive the equations of motion of the plates using Navier's double trigonometric series, a closed-form solution is obtained; the primary conclusion is that simple solution is obtained with good results accuracy when compared with previously published results, and the natural frequency will differ depending on, environment temperature, thickness ratio, and lamination angle, as well as the aspect ratio of the plate.

Numerical solution for multiple confocal elliptic dissimilar cylinders

  • This paper provides a numerical solution for multiple confocal elliptic dissimilar cylinders. In the problem, the inner elliptic notch is under the traction free condition. The medium is composed of many confocal elliptic dissimilar cylinders. The transfer matrix method is used to study the continuity condition for the stress and displacement along the interfaces. Two cases, or the infinite matrix case and the finite matrix case, are studied in this paper. In the former case, the remote tension is applied in y- direction. In the latter case, the normal loading is applied along the exterior elliptic contour. For two cases, several numerical results are provided.

  • This paper presents a cyclocoverter with a LC resonant circuit for a induction motor dr-ive. The cycloconverter can provide variab-le voltage and frequency three phase output while keeping the input displacement factor at 1.0. The input current wave forms are sinusoidal, and the wide output frequency ran-ge is appropriate for variable speed AC motor drives.

  • Natural vibration of the rotor system having multi-step cross-sections is analyzed. The rotary inertia and the shear deformation are considered. Torque is also included in order to simulate the power transmission system. The complex displacement and the variable separation are introduced. The exact solutions in uniform cross-section segment and the boundary conditions are used. Natural frequencies and mode shapes are obtained, especially the mode shapes are countinuous.

  • Thermal expansion of ball screw in the semi-closed loop type CNC LATHE introduces positioning errors directly along the travelling the axis. In this paper the thermal displacements of the ball screw were estimated by using macro variable. The estimated displacements of the ball screw were given to the ball screw of the CNC LATHE under the constant driving conditions were measured to examine the effectiveness of the compensation method. The results showed that thermal displacements of the ball screw could be maintained less then 6 .mu.m positioning accaracy while using this compensation.

  • For the HST(Hydrostatic Transmission) consisted of a variable displacement axial piston pump and motor, a speed controller with efficiencies considered is proposed. To consider a efficiency in speed control, the displacements of pump and motor which maximize a steady state efficiencies with a various load torque are calculated through computer simulation and these results are reflected to speed controller which has PI control structure with cross over control scheme. It is shown through computer simulation that the proposed controller gives better steady state efficiencies compared with the conventional controller and good transient responses.

  • Measurement of beam deflection is a common procedure to determine proper behavior of the structure. Either LVDT (Linear Variable Displacement Transformer) or strain gauge is usually used in experiments. A newly developed coordinate reading measurement system can be also applied for the deflection measurements. In this study, an experimental measurement was made on a laboratory size beam specimen to examine the possibility of the use of such coordinate measurement system. Results have shown the possibility of utilizing the new system for beam deflection measurement.

  • The torque efficiency of oil hydraulic pump is an important factor for it's performance characteristics. A study on the performance test method of oil hydraulic pump is based on test standard, but there is to be desired an study for double or tandem type oil hydraulic piston pump. So in this study present a test method on the tandem pump for torque efficiency and analysis method of the results.

  • Usually, in many applications, high frequency resonant inverters are used, and the PAM(Pulse Amplitude Modulation), PFM(Pulse Frequency Modulation) or PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) techniques are used to control the output power of resonant inverters. In this paper, a new switching scheme is proposed as a PWM control method. With the proposed method, it can be obtained that unity output displacement factor under the variable resonant frequency. The detail algorithm of the proposed PWM switching scheme and its charicteristics are discussed. And the validity of the proposed method is confirmed with the experimental results.
