Reassessment of viscoelastic response in steel-concrete composite beams

  • In this paper the viscoelastic responses of four experimental steel-concrete composite beams subjected to highly variable environmental conditions are investigated by means of a finite element (FE) model. Concrete specimens submitted to stepped stress changes are also evaluated to validate the current formulations. Here, two well-known approaches commonly used to solve the viscoelastic constitutive relationship for concrete are employed. The first approach directly solves the integral-type form of the constitutive equation at the macroscopic level, in which aging is included by updating material properties. The second approach is postulated from a rate-type law based on an age-independent Generalized Kelvin rheological model together with Solidification Theory, using a micromechanical based approach. Thus, conceptually both approaches include concrete hardening in two different manners. The aim of this work is to compare and analyze the numerical prediction in terms of long-term deflections of the studied specimens according to both approaches. To accomplish this goal, the performance of several well-known model codes for concrete creep and shrinkage such as ACI 209, CEB-MC90, CEB-MC99, B3, GL 2000 and FIB-2010 are evaluated by means of statistical bias indicators. It is shown that both approaches with minor differences acceptably match the long-term experimental deflection and are able to capture complex oscillatory responses due to variable temperature and relative humidity. Nevertheless, the use of an age-independent scheme as proposed by Solidification Theory may be computationally more advantageous.

Reconfigurable Wireless Power Transfer System for Multiple Receivers

  • We present a novel schematic using a 3-dB coupler to transmit radiofrequency (RF) power to two receivers selectively. Whereas previous multiple receiver supporting schemes used hardware-switched methods, our scheme uses a soft power-allocating method, which has the advantage of variable power allocation in real time to each receiver. Using our scheme, we can split the charging area and focus the RF power on the targeted areas. We present our soft power-allocating method in three main points. First, we propose a new power distribution hardware structure using a FPGA (field-programmable gate array) and a 3-dB coupler. It can reconfigure the transmitting power to two receivers selectively using accurate FPGA-controlled signals with the aid of software. Second, we propose a power control method in our platform. We can variably control the total power of transmitter using the DC bias of the drain input of the amplifier. Third, we provide the possibility of expansion in multiple systems by extending these two wireless power transfer systems. We believe that this method is a new approach to controlling power amplifier output softly to support multiple receivers.

  • From the viewpoint of applications to manufacturing, data mining is a useful method to find the meaningful knowledge or information about states of processes. But the data from manufacturing processes usually have two characteristics which are multicollinearity and imbalance distribution of data. Two characteristics are main causes which make bias to classification rules and select wrong variables as important variables. In the paper, we propose a new data mining procedure to solve the problem. First, to determine candidate variables, we propose the multiple hypothesis test. Second, to make unbiased classification rules, we propose the decision tree learning method with different weights for each category of quality variable. The experimental result with a real PDP (Plasma display panel) manufacturing data shows that the proposed procedure can make better information than other data mining procedures.

  • In this paper, the Variable Structure System(VSS) theory with new continuous switching dynamic equation is used to design an automatic controller for the active nutation damping in momentum bias stabilized spacecraft. In the application of VSS theory to a linearized multivariable system with the nutation damping systems, there exist some disadvantages such as how to determine the switching gains and how to reduce the chattering phenomina and reaching phase in input and state trajectories. To solve these drawbacks, this paper presents the continuous switching dynamic equation instead of the discontinuous switching logics to obtain the sliding mode. The new design approach is much simpler than the VSS theory. And there do not exist chattering phenomina in this method because the obtained control inputs are continuous. Simultaneously the reaching phase is reduced by a suitable choice of design factor.

A meta analysis for anti-hyperlipidemia effect of soybeans (메타분석을 이용한 대두의 항-고지혈 효과)

  • In this paper, using a meta analysis of anti-hyperlipidemia effect of soybeans were studied. Studied the effects of soybeans using Hedges' standardized mean difference looked at the effect. Applying the fixed-effects model analysis of fecal cholesterol and total cholesterol and triglycerides showed a statistically significant reduction in HDL cholesterol increase was statistically significant at. In addition, the homogeneity of all variables by running the test did not meet the homogeneity of the kidney weight, between weight, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, and triglycerides in the random effects model against the results of the analysis conducted by a statistically significant variable that did not.

  • Missing value replacement is one of the big issues in data analysis. If you ignore the occurrence of the missing value and proceed with the analysis, a bias can occur and give incorrect results for the estimate. In this paper, we need to find and apply an appropriate alternative to missing data from weather data. Through this, we attempted to clarify and compare the simulations for various situations using existing methods such as MICE and MissForest based on R and time series-based models. When comparing these results with each variable, it was determined that the kalman filter of the auto arima model using the ImputeTS package and the MissForest model gave good results in the weather data.

  • Penalized spline is a suitable nonparametric approach in estimating mean model in small area. However, application of the approach in informative sampling in a published article is uncommon. We propose a semiparametric mixed-model using penalized spline under informative sampling to estimate mean of small area. The response variable is explained in terms of mean model, informative sample effect, area random effect and unit error. We approach the mean model by penalized spline and utilize a penalized spline function of the inclusion probability to account for the informative sample effect. We determine the best and unbiased estimators for coefficient model and derive the restricted maximum likelihood estimators for the variance components. A simulation study shows a decrease in the average absolute bias produced by the proposed model. A decrease in the root mean square error also occurred except in some quadratic cases. The use of linear and quadratic penalized spline to approach the function of the inclusion probability provides no significant difference distribution of root mean square error, except for few smaller samples.

  • It is well known that the conventional differential source-coupled pair uses gates as its input terminals. This input pair provids a high open-loop gain, a large CMRR, and a good PSRR. For these reasons, the input pair has been used widely as an input stages of the differential amplifiers, but a narrow linear input range of this structurelimits its application in the area of some analog circuit design. A novel CMOS source-coupled backgate pair is proposed in this paper. The bulk of MOSFET is exploited and input devices are biased to operate in ohmic region. With this topology, the backgate pair of the wide linear input range and variable transconductance can be obtained. This backgate input differential stage is realized with the size of W/L=50/25 MOSFETs. The results show the nonlinear error is less than $\gamma$1% over 10V full-scale range for the bias current of 200$\mu$A with 10V single power-supply.

A Research on DLC Thin Film Coating of a SiC Core for Aspheric Glass Lens Molding (비구면 유리렌즈 성형용 SiC 코어의 DLC 코팅에 관한 연구)

  • Technical demands for aspheric glass lens formed in market increases its application from simple camera lens module to fiber optics connection module in optical engineering. WC is often used as a metal core of the aspheric glass lens, but the long life time is issued because it fabricated in high temperature and high pressure environment. High hard thin film coating of lens core increases the core life time critically. Diamond Like Carbon(DLC) thin film coating shows very high hardness and low surface roughness, i.e. low friction between a glass lens and a metal core, and thus draw interests from an optical manufacturing industry. In addition, DLC thin film coating can removed by etching process and deposit the film again, which makes the core renewable. In this study, DLC films were deposited on the SiC ceramic core. The process variable in FVA(Filtered Vacuum Arc) method was the substrate bias-voltage. Deposited thin film was evaluated by raman spectroscopy, AFM and nano indenter and measured its crystal structure, surface roughness, and hardness. After applying optimum thin film condition, the life time and crystal structure transition of DLC thin film was monitored.

Estimation of Cut-off Stratum in the Highly Skewed Population (왜도가 심한 모집단의 절사층 추정)

  • In business survey, cut-off sampling is usual, The contribution from cut-off part of the population is at least small in comparison with the remaining population. In this case, part of the target population is excluded from the selection and parameter estimations are only based on Take-all and Take-some stratum. It may be tempting not to use resources on enterprises that contribute little to the overall results of the survey. And this reduces the response burden for these small enterprises. But, the size of cut-off stratum has been increased as a way to manage reduced budgets. This leads to additional bias. In this study, the population have been separated as three stratum, cut -off, take-some, take-all, and we will estimate cut-off part using auxiliary variable.
