Jet fire, pool fire, and vapor cloud explosion are major accident scenarios in LPG filling station. The protection wall would mitigate radiation effect in a jet fire. In case of a pool fire, the protection wall would restrict expanding the pool area. The protection wall might both obstruct the dispersion of released vapor and protect blast overpressure in a vapor cloud explosion scenario. In this paper, An availability assessment method of the protection wall how much reduce damage to receptors is proposed. Additionally application cases are presented for the effectiveness of protection wall in the LPG filling station. The study shows that the protection wall can effectively reduce the death probabilities of receptors located behind the wall in cases of the jet fires and the vapor cloud explosions.
The feasibility of cloud seeding in Korea is presented from analyses of precipitation, cloud amount, satellite data, and upper air data. The daily mean precipitation over Dae-Kwan-Ryong is the largest(~4.5 mm/day), while the intensity of precipitation (amount of yearly rainfall divided by the frequency of rain days) over Southern area is above 14 mm/day, which shows the largest in Korea. Both the daily mean and the intensity of precipitation over Andong area are the smallest with values of ~2.7 mm/day and ~11 mm/day, respectively. In the meanwhile, the occurrence frequency of appropriate cloud top temperature (-10'~-30') for cloud seeding over the region has a large value (~130 days/year). The precipitation patterns of the region vary with wind direction and intensity calculated from 43 AWSs(Automatic Weather Station) and the additional 7 rain guages which were installed along Northern and Southern part of the Sobaek mountain. The Sc(Stratocumulus) cloud type over Andong is frequently observed, and Cirrus and Altostratus next. From the results, it is estimated that the feasibility of cloud seeding over the area would be high if a proper strategy of cloud seeding is set up. LCL (Lifting Condensation Level) and CCL (Convective Condensation Level) have the most frequency in 1000-950 hPa being occupied 4/9 of total analysis period and in 400-500 hPa, respectively, with both small variations from season to season. The correlation between vapor mixing ratio and CCL is the highest in Summer and the lowest in Winter. It means that the height of cumulus in Summer is high with an abundant water vapor but vice versa in Winter, and that the strategy of cloud seeding should be different with seasons.

In order to establish detailed plans for fire protection and reduce the possible fire accidents in the future, a study on the shock wave caused by VCE(Vapor Cloud Explosion) is very important. Destruction phenomena of structure by gas explosion is due to the explosion pressure and heat. Explosion pressure is a kind of energy converted from the gas mixture explosion. Therefore, the propagation progress of shock wave and flame is very important. This study investigated the shock wave caused by VCE in enclosure with opened vent port. From a result, the vent port of top at the straight line of ignition and leak location was opened most rapidly, and the vertical vent port not opened.

This paper is on the influence of gas explosion caused by Vapor Cloud Explosion(VCE). Also, it is to understand the influence of the booth for explosion experiment which is installed to let the trainees for legal education which is managed by IGTT(Institute or Gas Technology Training) know the riskiness of explosion. In this study, the influence of explosion shock wave caused by VCE in enclosure was calculated by using the Hopkinson's scaling law and the accident damage was estimated by applying the influence on the adjacent human into the probit model. As a result of the damage estimation conducted by using the probit model, both the damage possibility of explosion overpressure to human 8 meters away and that of shock wave to hurt 15 meters away showed nothing.
Accurately predicting localized heavy rainfall is challenging without high-resolution mesoscale cloud information in the numerical model's initial field, as precipitation intensity and amount vary significantly across regions. In the Korean Peninsula, the radar observation network covers the entire country, providing high-resolution data on hydrometeors which is suitable for data assimilation (DA). During the pre-processing stage, radar reflectivity is classified into hydrometeors (e.g., rain, snow, graupel) using the background temperature field. The mixing ratio of each hydrometeor is converted and inputted into a numerical model. Moreover, assimilating saturated water vapor mixing ratio and decomposing radar radial velocity into a three-dimensional wind vector improves the atmospheric dynamic field. This study presents radar DA experiments using a numerical prediction model to enhance the wind, water vapor, and hydrometeor mixing ratio information. The impact of radar DA on precipitation prediction is analyzed separately for each radar component. Assimilating radial velocity improves the dynamic field, while assimilating hydrometeor mixing ratio reduces the spin-up period in cloud microphysical processes, simulating initial precipitation growth. Assimilating water vapor mixing ratio further captures a moist atmospheric environment, maintaining continuous growth of hydrometeors, resulting in concentrated heavy rainfall. Overall, the radar DA experiment showed a 32.78% improvement in precipitation forecast accuracy compared to experiments without DA across four cases. Further research in related fields is necessary to improve predictions of mesoscale heavy rainfall in South Korea, mitigating its impact on human life and property.
Past accidents have shown that vapor cloud explosions are the predominant cause of the largest losses in the chemical and petrochemical industries due to the generation of significant overpressures. Prediction of such overpressure is of great concern and a knowledge of the likely overpressure is needed for the design of equipment, safety cases and emergency planning. For these reasons, risk assessment for vapor cloud explosion is crucial and this assessment can be carried out using the different models including TNT-Equivalency, TNO Hemispherical, TNO Multi-Energy and CFD models. Accordingly, in this paper, the published VCE prediction models are reviewed to provide a critical comparison of the different models used for the quantification of explosion hazards, in terms of the fundamental assumptions employed, and their predictive accuracy
The demand of gas as an eco-friendly energy source has being increased. With the demand of gas, the use of gas is also increased, so injury and loss of life by the explosion and fire have been increasing every year. Hence the influence on over-pressure caused by Vapor Cloud Explosion in enclosure of experimental booth was calculated by using the Hopkinson's scaling law and damage effect by the accident to a human body was estimated by applying the probit model. As a result of the damage estimation conducted by using the probit model, both the damage possibility of explosion overpressure to human over 3 meters away and that of overpressure to tympanum rupture over 25 meters away from the explosion shows nothing.
