Analysis of the experimental cooling performance of a high-power light-emitting diode package with a modified crevice-type vapor chamber heat pipe

  • The experimental analysis of a crevice-type vapor chamber heat pipe (CVCHP) is investigated. The heat source of the CVCHP is a high-power light-emitting diode (LED). The CVCHP, which exhibits a bubble pumping effect, is used for heat dissipation in a high-heat-flux system. The working fluid is R-141b, and its charging ratio was set at 60 vol.% of the vapor chamber in a heat pipe. The total thermal conductivity of the falling-liquid-film-type model, which was a modified model, was 24% larger than that of the conventional model in the LED package. Flow visualization results indicated that bubbles grew larger as they combined. These combined bubbles pushed the working fluid to the top, partially wetting the heat-transfer area. The thermal resistance between the vapor chamber and tube in the modified design decreased by approximately 32%. The overall results demonstrated the better heat dissipation upon cooling of the high-power LED package.

증기-액 이젝터를 적용한 R134a 냉동사이클의 성능 비교 (Performance comparison of refrigeration cycle using R134a with the vapor-liquid ejector)

  • 최근 기본 냉동사이클에 이젝터를 적용한 고효율 냉동사이클의 개발에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행 중이다. 이러한 이젝터는 그 적용 위치에 따라 이젝터의 역할 뿐만 아니라 냉동사이클의 성능도 달라진다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이젝터 적용 위치가 다른 세 가지 냉동사이클을 선정하고, 각 사이클의 성능을 비교 및 분석하였다. 그 결과, 모든 이젝터 적용 냉동사이클의 COP가 기본 냉동사이클에 비해 최대 44% 향상되었다. 특히 본 연구에서 제안하는 이젝터 냉동사이클의 COP가 3.47로 가장 높게 나타났다. 그리고, 기본 냉동사이클과 비교하여 Bergander 사이클, Xing 사이클, 그리고 본 연구에서 제안한 이젝터 냉동사이클의 응축열량이 최대 21% 감소하였다. 따라서, 본 연구로부터 이젝터 적용 냉동사이클에서 이젝터의 압력비, 토출부 건도, 압축비 등은 냉동장치의 성능 향상에 영향을 미치는 중요한 요소이므로 이들에 대한 최적 제어가 대단히 중요하다.

  • 본 연구에서는 Peng-Robinson 상태 방정식을 기본으로 하여 먼저 단일 성분의 냉매에 대한 열역학적 물성치를 구한 뒤 그 정확도를 검증하고, 동일한 형태의 상태식 과 적절한 혼합 법칙을 통해 혼합냉매의 기액 평형 상태와 냉동 및 열펌프 사이클 해 석에 필요한 엔탈피와 엔트로피 등의 열역학적 물성치를 추산하고자 한다.단일 성 분의 냉매로서는 R13B1, R22, R12, R152a, R114를 택하였고, 혼합냉매로서는 앞의 단 일성분 냉매를 혼합한 것 중에서 그 기초적인 실험 자료가 아미 알려진 R13B1/R114, R22/R114, R12/R114 R152a/R114, R13B1/R152a 및 R13B1/R12를 택하였다. 이는 추후 상이한 냉매를 단일식으로 나타낼 수 있는 대응상태의 원리를 사용한 열물성 계산의 기반이 될 수 있을 것이다.

일본 요코하마 대기 중 PCBs의 가스-입자 분배 (Gas-Particle Partitioning of PCBs in Ambient Air, Yokohama Japan)

  • This study was aimed at estimation of gas-particle partitioning of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in ambient air. The samples were collected at urban site in Japan from March 2002 to January 2003. The concentration of total PCBs (from 4 CB to 10 CB) and TEQ (Toxic equivalent) ranged from 62 to $247\;pg/m^3$ and from 2 to $14\;fgTEQ/m^3 $, respectively. The average contribution $(\%)$ of gas phase to total PCBs concentration was above $80\%$, which suggests that in the atmosphere PCBs predominantly existed in the gas phase. The weak correlations between total PCBs concentration and temperature was found. However this result was due to a typhoon during summer and raining during sampling period. The gas-particle partition coefficient (Kp) was obtained as a function of temperature. The partition ratio of gaseous and particulate phase PCBs can be estimated for an arbitrary temperature. The plot of gas/particle partition coefficient (log Kp) vs. sub-cooled liquid vapor pressure $(log\;P_L)$ had reasonable correlations for individual samples but the slope varied among the samples (coefficients of determination for log Kp versus log $P_L$ plot were> 0.76 $(p<0.0001)$, except for 3 samples). As a result, the variations in the slope among the sampling period may be due to change of temperature, raining during sampling period and wind in this study.

자동차용 가솔린의 경비행기 엔진 적합성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study of Automotive Gasolines in a Light Aircraft Engine)

  • The primary purpose of this extensive test effort was to observe real-time operational performance characteristics associated with automotive grade fuel utilized by piston engine powered light aviation aircraft. In fulfillment of this effort, baseline engine operations were established with 100LL aviation grade fuel followed by four blends of automotive grade fuel. A comprehensive sea-level-static test cell/flight test data collection and evaluation effort were conducted to review operational characteristics of a carbureted light aircraft piston engine as related to fuel volatility, fuel temperature, and fuel system pressure. Presented herein are results, data, and conclusions drawn from test cell engine operation as well as flight test operation on 100LL aviation grade and four blends of automotive grade fuel.

염류용액 방전의 온도 측정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Temperature Measurement Using Optical Emission in Saline Solution Discharge with Pin to Plate Electrodes)

  • In this study, electrical and spectroscopic characteristics were investigated in the pin to plate discharge of 0.9% weight per unit volume saline solution. The positive and positive- and negative-going dc pulse with 5% duty ratio were applied to tungsten pin electrode. The more amount of discharge current flew in negative discharge. The temperature, which is considered as a local value in the vicinity of vapor of discharge, was about 3,000K which is much higher than the value recommended to be controlled. It can be suggested that not only the temperature of liquid but also the local temperature of vapor is monitored to investigate damages on tissue or cells in biological application.

가열된 표면에 고착된 한 쌍의 액적 증발 특성 (Evaporation Characteristics of Paired Sessile Droplets on a Heated Substrate)

  • This study investigates the evaporation characteristics of paired sessile droplets on a heated substrate. In particular, the evaporation time and contact line behaviors were analyzed based on the droplet-to-droplet distance and substrate temperature. The contact line behavior and volume variations were visualized using the shadowgraph method. It was observed that the contact diameter and contact angle exhibited similar behavior for both single and paired droplets regardless of the droplet-to-droplet distance and substrate temperature. The paired droplets demonstrated a longer evaporation time than the single droplet due to the vapor accumulation between the droplets. Furthermore, the scaled lifetime, defined as the ratio of evaporation time between paired and single droplets, increased as the droplet-to-droplet distance decreased and decreased as the substrate temperature increased, attributed natural convection.

Derivation of Mechanistic Critical Heat Flux Model and Correlation for Water Based on Flow Excursion

  • In this study, the mechanistic critical heat flux (CHF) model and correlation for water are derived based on flow excursion (or Ledinegg instability) criterion and the simplified two-phase homogeneous model. The relationship between CHF for the water and the principal parameters such as mass flux heat of vaporization, heated length-to-diameter ratio, vapor-liquid density ratio and inlet subcooling is derived on the developed correlation. The developed CHF correlation predicts very well at the applicable ranges, 1 < P < 40 bar, 1, 300 < G 27, 00 kg/$m^2$s and inlet quality is less than -0.1. The overall mean ratio of predicted to experimental CHF value is 0.988 with standard deviation of 0.046.

고압상태에서의 디젤연료분무의 연소 및 매연가스배출 특성 (Combustion and Emission Characteristics of Diesel Spray in High-Pressure Environment)

  • The present study is mainly aiming at numerically analyzing the combustion and emission characteristics of the diesel spray in a high-pressure environment. Computations are peformed for the peak chamber pressure with range from 4.08 MPa to 162 MPa. Numerical results indicate that the pressure increase in combustion chamber significantly influences the mechanism for droplet dynamics and mixing characteristics, spray penetration autoignition, flame lift-on height and the propagation or fuel vapor and flame. By increasing the ratio or the ambient density to injected liquid density, the fuel-air mixing rates and the burning rates increase and the $NO_x/soot$ emission level decreases.

Reformate 분리공정에서의 열복합 증류탑 제어구조에 관한 연구 (Study on Control Efficiency of Thermally Coupled Distillation Column for Reformate Fractionation Process)

  • Reformate 분리 공정에 대한 열복합 증류탑의 가능한 제어 구조를 조사하고 그 제어 성능을 검토하기 위하여 동적 모사를 수행하였다. Aspen HYSYS를 사용하여 $3{\times}3$ 제어구조를 적용하여 여러 가지 제어구조로 동적 모사한 결과 Reformate 분리 공정 주탑의 상부, 중간, 하부 제품 조성은 각각 reflux flow rate, 주탑에서 전처리탑 상부로 흐르는 liquid draw rate, vapor boilup rate로 제어되는 구조가 가장 운전 안정성이 확보됨을 확인하였다.
