Vapor explosion is one of the most important problems encountered in severe accident management of nuclear power plants. In spite of many efforts, a lot of questions still remain. So, KAERI launched a real experimental program called TROI using $UO_{2}$ and $ZrO_{2}$ to investigate the vapor explosion. Besides TROI tests, a small-scale experiment with molten-tin/water system was performed to quantify the characteristics of vapor explosion and to understand the phenomenology of vapor explosion. A vapor explosion was observed while the amount of air bubble and water temperature were systematically varied The mass and temperature of tin are $50\;g\;and\;150^{\circ}C$, respectively. Water temperature is set to $24^{\circ}C\;and\;50^{\circ}C$. The void fraction of air bubble ranges from $0\;to\;10\;{\%}$. The strength of vapor explosion was measured using dynamic pressure sensors attached in reactor tube wall. as a function of void fraction. In addition, a high speed video filming up to 1,000 flame/sec was taken in order to visually investigate the behavior of the vapor explosion .
The flow and heat/mass transfer in the falling-film of a heat exchanger can be influenced by the motion of the surrounding refrigerant vapor. In this study, the effect of the vapor flow direction on the absorption heat transfer has been investigated for a falling-film helical coil which is frequently used as the absorber of ammonia/water absorption refrigerators. The experiments were carried out for different solution concentration. The heat and mass transfer performance was measured for both parallel and counter-current flow. The effect of vapor flow on the heat and mass transfer is found to be increased with decreasing solution concentration. In the experiments with low solution concentration, whose vapor specific volume is great, the counter-current flow of vapor resulted in uneven distribution of falling-film and reduced the heat transfer performance of the absorber. The direction of the vapor flow hardly affected the thermal performance as the solution concentration became stronger since the specific volume of the ammonia/water vapor was much smaller than that of the water vapor.
The vapor pressure of the high melting point oxides, MgO, $Cr_2O_3$, and $MgCr_2O_4$ were measured over the temperature range 1300 to 175$0^{\circ}C$ under vacuum <$10^{-5}$ torr by the Langmuir and the Knudsen method. The Langmuir vapor pressure was increased with elevating temperature and with increasing porosity of the specimen. The difference between the vapor preseures measured by the Langmuir and the Knudsen method was decreased with elevating temperature and the Langmuir vapor pressure finally reached the Knudsen vapor pressure at the melting point when extrapolated. The vapor pressure of other important oxides with high melting points, i.e., $Al_2O_3$, $ThO_2$, $Yb_2O_3$ and $Y_2O_3$ were cited from the references. The Langmuir and the Knudsen vapor pressure of these oxides also showed the same results, i.e., they showed the same value at their melting points.
Aerosol formation and growth by water vapor reactions were investigated in a 2.5 -㎥ indoor smog chamber filled with the unfiltered ambient air. The relative humidity of test ambient air was elevated at 59~64% or 84~88% by adding water vapor. The aerosol number size distribution and the concentrations of $O_3$, NO, NO$_2$, and SO$_2$ were measured during the experiments. The $O_3$ and NO$_2$ gases were well reacted with the water vapor at high relative humidity of 84~88%, and the reaction rates of these gases seemed to be decreased at low relative humidity of 59~64%. The formation and condensational growth phenomena of ambient aerosols by water vapor reactions were observed in a Teflon bag, depending strongly on the initial particle size distribution. The water vapor reactions might be affected by the contents of oxidants produced by photochemical reactions under sunlight.
In this study, the effects of water vapor in inlet air on combustion efficiency, general performance, knock characteristics and emission gas concentration were investig- ated through the experiments of combustion and vibration analyses, emission gas analysis by changing water vapor quantity in inlet air with temperature and humidity auto control unit. With partial vapor pressure increase, the brake torque at wide open throttle status decreased and the average ignition delay angle increased, IMEP (indicated mean effective pressured using the integral and 3rd derivatives of filtered cylinder pressure as knock intensity, which matched well with the method of frequency power spectrum of block vibration signal. Water vapor in intake air had influence on the spark knock sensitivity. With the increase of water vapor content in intake air NOx emission was decreased and HC emission was increased.
The water vapor permeability of polypropylene spun bond non-woven fabrics were investigated with the water vapor permeability velocity at $20^{\circ}C$, $30^{\circ}C$ and $40^{\circ}C$ by applying the hygroscopic method. At each temperature 50, 65 and 80 %RH conditions were used. The results indicated that the water vapor permeability velocity increased with increasing the water vapor concentration difference between both sides of sample surfaces and it decreased with increasing the number of the piled-up fabrics and the apparent density.
For turn on high pressure sodium vapor lamp, Starting Voltage is very important factor. This starting voltage supply to high pressure sodium vapor lamp as electric discharge lamp, Electric field is producted in electric discharge tube, So accelerative electron collide against vapor atom and second electron is generated, And rapidly the current flow to electric discharge tube. This starting voltage is high voltage and source for melting contact that relay is according as turn on/off high pressure sodium vapor lamp. Consequently, This paper propose that the prevention of melting contact in accordance relay of controller for turn on/off high pressure sodium vapor lamp.
Vertically aligned arrays of multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) on layered Si substrates have been synthesized by water-assisted thermal chemical vapor deposition (CVD). We studied changes in growth by parameters of growth temperature, growth time, rates of gas and annealing time of catalyst. Also, We grew CNTs by adding a little amount of water vapor to enhance the growth of CNTs. $H_2$, Ar, and $C_2H_2$ were used as carrier gas and feedstock, respectively. Before growth, Fe served as catalyst, underneath which AI were coated as an underlayer and a diffusion barrier, respectively, on the Si substrate. The water vapor had a greater effect on the growth of CNTs on a smaller thickness of catalyst. When the water vapor was introduced, the growth of CNTs was enhanced than without water. CNTs grew 1.29 mm for 10 min long by adding the water vapor, while CNTs were 0.73 mm long without water vapor for the same period of time. CNTs grew up to 1.97 mm for 30 min prior to growth termination under adding water vapor. As-grown CNTs were characterized by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), and Raman spectroscopy.
Laboratory analytical results of 22 sets of hydrophobic adsorbent coils containing surface soil-vapor and two soil samples collected by conventional intrusive method from each boring location at two active dry cleaning facilities in the State of Illinois, U.S.A, were presented to evaluate the performance of soil-vapor survey. The most critical factor to determine the effectiveness of soil-vapor survey is the distance from the soil-vapor sampling device to the actual contamination, which is a function of soil porosity, permeability, primary lithology, and other geological and hydrogeological site-specific parameters. Also this factor can be affected by the history of contaminant-generating operations. The laboratory analytical results in this study showed longer dry cleaning operation history (i.e., 50 years) and presence of fine sand at the beneath Site B allow the contaminants to migrate farther and deeper over a fixed time compared to Site A(i.e., 35 years and silty clay) so that the soil-vapor survey is not likely the most effective environmental site investigation method alone for Site B. However, for Site A, the soil-vapor survey successfully screened the site to identify the location reporting the highest soil concentration of chlorinated solvents.
Effect of a non-absorbable gas on the absorption process in a vertical tube absorber was investigated numerically. The water vapor mined with air as the non-absorbable gas is absorbed into LiBr/water solution film. The flow is assumed to be laminar and fully developed in both liquid and gas phases. The diffusion and energy equations were solved in both phases to give the temperature and concentrations, from which heat and mass fluxes were determined. It was shown that the local absorption rate decreases as the mass fraction of air in water vapor increases. The vapor pressure of water at the liquid-vapor interface reduces significantly since the non-absorbable gas is accumulated near the interface. The effect of non-absorbable gases on absorption rate becomes larger as the mass flow rate of the vapor decreases. For small amount of non-absorbable gases the total absorption rate of water vapor increases as the mass flow rate of the vapor decreases. Total absorption rate increases as the mass flow rate of the vapor increases for large concentration of non-absorbables at the inlet of an absorber.
