A valve assembly used in nuclear power plants must be qualified and supervised. New technical standards such as ASME QME-1 2007 particularly require detailed qualification using experiment and analysis. Particularly, diagnostic tests and engineering studies are required for qualification of ASME QME-1 2007. Among these studies, the research on the measurement of friction coefficient and packing stress is important. The irregular change of packing stress along the stroke distance occurs because of the abnormal phenomenon, which must be found and studied with quantitative methods. Packing stress should be analyzed conservatively through experimentation and analysis. In this study, various formulas were applied to measure and calculate coefficient of friction and packing stress. This study can be used in relation to qualification and supervision of packing materials. And the calculation using static diagnosis test can be used to find the packing frictional force in dynamic diagnosis test with flow pressure in a pipe. This study has made it possible to reliably consider packing frictional force generated in a valve body. And so, it is believed that more margin can be secured when evaluating the capacity of valve actuator by applying the accurate frictional force generated in the valve assembly.
A counter balance valve is used as one part of hydraulic motor brake system. The function of this valve is to protect over-run or free falling of inertia load. But occasionally the brake system with counter balance valve makes some undesirable problems such as pressure surges or vibrations. In this study, for the purpose of easy estimation about dynamic chrcteristics of hydraulic system including counter balance valve, precise formulation describing fluid dynamics and valve dynamics under various boundary conditions were made. dynamic caracteristics were analysed by numerical intergration using Runge-Kutta method, because the equations in this circuit with counter balance valve contain various nonlinear terms. So the analyzing method developed in this study enabled very easy estimating the relation between the performance of counter balance valve and various physical parameters related to the valve.
EPPR (Electro-hydraulic Proportional Pressure Reducing) valves are pressure control valves. In this study, an independent metering valve (IMV), which is a combination of a spool valve opened and closed with the help of an EPPR valve, was discussed. The overall performance of the valve (IMV) was obtained by the respective modeling and simulation of the system. The valve investigated in this study is to be used for independent metering of hydraulic excavator actuator e.g. boom, arm, bucket etc. To design the model, continuity equations and force balance equations were used. The set of differential equations were then simulated in Simulink using ODE45 option in the configuration toolbox. The valve has to be able to control the flow rate going in and out of the cylinder separately, which is why the particular configuration was needed and selected.

The valve train system of engines has long been a sensitive area with respect to wear performance because of the high contact loads and surface sliding speeds encountered. In particular, wear problems of load-carrying components in relative motion, such as cam and tappet in valve train system have made troubles. To overcome these problems, combination of proper materials is important, as well as selecting of high wear performance materials. This paper presents the experimental result of friction and wear properties of ca/tappet materials. To investigate friction and wear properties for several combinations of materials, using commonplace tribometer(Plint 77, reciprocating type), we make a selection of a optimum material combination.

The objective of this study was to perform failure analysis of an inlet pipe located in a governor valve of a steam turbine in a district heating system. During the operation, the temperature of the governor valve was increased to as high as ~500 ℃, which induced thermal expansion of the inlet pipe along both axial and radial directions. While the inlet pipe did not have contact with the valve seat, the side plane of the upside was constrained by the casing part, which led the inlet pipe to experience stress field in the form of fatigue and creep. The primary crack was initiated at about 30 mm below the top where the complex stress field was anticipated. These results suggest that the main failure mechanism is a combination of thermal fatigue and creep during the operation supported by the observation of apparent beach marks on the fracture surface and pores near the cracks, respectively.
The importance of dual-fuel engines has increased for reducing CO2 emissions. However, the low operating temperature of this engine may induce low-temperature corrosion at combustion parts, which reduces the engine service life. To overcome this problem, NiCr38Al4 alloy was developed for valve spindle, but the cost of this alloy is expensive due to its high Cr content. For reducing the manufacturing cost of valve spindle, in the present work, NiCr38Al4 alloy was welded with Nimonic80A alloy by conducting friction welding. The tensile test results show that the strength of friction-welded specimens follows the properties of the lower-strength parent materials, without severe cracks at the interface. The large shear strain and frictional heat from friction welding not only reduce grain size but also induce solute element diffusion at the interfacial region. Because of the low Cr diffusivity compared with Ti, Cr carbides were not observed in the Nimonic80A matrix, while Ti carbides were distributed in both the Nimonic80A and SNCrW matrices.

Pneumatic valves are widely used parts that have the ability to control the air supplied to automation systems. However, if failure occurs in a pneumatic valve, it may affect the entire system and could lead to huge losses, depending on the characteristics of the system at the time of failure. Because of this significant risk and the level of consumer demand for reliability, there has been much study on ensuring the reliability of products by predicting valve lifetime distributions and degradation characteristics. In this paper, in order to determine the main factors useful for predicting the lifetime of a pneumatic valve, the scale parameter and $B_{10}$ life time value of the widely used plug-in-type pneumatic manifold valves were measured using complete observational data on the valve lifetimes. And also the property of life distribution has been distribution-suitabilityreviewed by correlation coefficients, the degradation characteristics of valve has been presented by the result of analysis through dynamic response time test and leakage test.
Electro-pneumatic servo valve is an electro-mechanical device which converts electric signals into a proper pneumatic flow rate or pressure. In order to improve the overall performance of pneumatic servo systems, electro-pneumatic servo valves are required, which have fast dynamic characteristics, no air leakage at a null point, and can be fabricated at a low-cost. The objective of this research is to design and to fabricate a new electro-pneumatic servo valve which satisfies the above-mentioned requirements. In order to design the mechanism of the servo valve optimally, the flow inside the valve depending upon the position of spool was analyzed variously, and on the basis of such analysis results, the valve mechanism, which was formed by combination of the spool and the sleeve, was designed and manufactured. Further, the performance of pneumatic servo valve has been verified through an overall performance test on the developed product.
Butterfly valve seated rubber has been widely used in water works and industrial fields because it has advantages which are small installation area and low weight. The size and material of butterfly valve have been selected by service environments and purposes. But there are out of the ordinary to find papers for the life characteristics of the butterfly valve. So, this study carries out the accelerated life test, which has an acceleration factor with pressure, using performance and life test equipment. Accelerated model is adopted with 3 stress level and the inverse power law model to estimate the life of the test samples. After the analysis of the test result, accelerated index has 7.0 and the acceleration factor has 208 which is applied with field condition with the pressure 6.3 bar.

This paper presents a static and dynamic characteristics of the relief valve which is a kind of direct operated pressure control valve for hydrogen compressor. The valve is consisted of a main poppet, a spring, an adjuster and a valve body. The purpose of this study is development of the simulation model for relief valve by using commercial AMESlM$^{(R)}$ tool. Poppet with sharp edge seat type and ball poppet with sharp edge seat type compare for P-Q characteristic. The dynamic simulation results are presented the operating pressure characteristics of relief valve. High pressure power unit of which maximum pressure control range is 100MPa was manufactured, and the pressure control valve was experimented using the above-mentioned power unit. The new model of pressure control valve from this results was suggested. It was confirmed that the suggested valve has a good control performance from experimental setup.
