  • Korean export of fashion products to the U.S. has fallen off sharply after 2001. Now, Korean fashion companies have to develop higher value-added business. In the U.S., Korean-American fashion companies are taking a primary role in up-stream of the fashion industry. To cut the edge over the U.S. fashion companies, one of the solutions could be to build the business relationship with Korean fashion companies which reflect the recent trend rapidly and have high quality production. On this study, we investigated the marketing strategies of Korean-American fashion companies to seek to start business with Korean fashion companies and make suggestions for Korean fashion companies who want to enter into the U.S. market effectively. To analyze current situation of Korean export to the U.S. and the U.S. fashion industry, we considered various kinds of statistic data, publications and studies. And we performed in-depth interviews with 9 Korean-American fashion companies in LA from $9^{th}$ to $21^{st}$ of July. The results are as follows. first, Korean fashion companies should aim for high-end market with the products of high quality and design. Second, there should be professional agents who manage Korean small-medium fashion companies and connect them with Korean-American fashion companies. Third, Korean fashion companies who want to enter into the retail market of the U.S. have to decide the target market clearly and plan strategic and differentiated merchandising. Fourth, Korean fashion companies can specialize in product developing service like proposing a product or a merchandising line as a package including designs, fabric swatches, trims, production information, etc.

  • In this paper we propose symbol decision method reflecting the color non-uniformity in 3-dimensional color space. By comparing with 2-dimensional color space decision method, we show the superiority of BER performance of the proposed method. Proposed method may reflect the non-uniformity since the symbol decision boundary in color space is transformed from 3D RGB space, and one dimension corresponding to Y value is added. Therefore, we can obtain the better BER performance by using the symbol decision method in 3D color space. In this paper, through numerical simulation, show the superior BER performance of 3D color space symbol decision method compared with 2D color space symbol decision method under AWGN and common mode noise channel.

  • In a typical spread spectrum system, parallel correlator occupies a large fraction of power consumption because of the large number of accumulators in the system. In this paper, a novel accumulator is proposed that can reduce the power consumption in the parallel correlator. The proposed accumulator counts the numbers of 1 of the incoming input data. The counted values are weighted and added together to obtain the final correlation value only at the end of the accumulation. The proposed accumulator has been designed and simulated by CADENCE Verilog-XL and synthesized by SYNOPSYS Design Compiler with $0.6{\mu}m$ standard cell library. Power consumption results have been obtained from EPIC PowerMill simulations. Simulation results are very encouraging. First, the power dissipation is reduced by 22% and the maximum operating frequency is increased by 323%. In addition, the parallel correlator using the proposed accumulators consumed less power than the conventional active parallel correlators by 22%, and less power than the conventional passive correlator by 43%.

  • Most studies on $CO_2$ abatement cost with a computational general equilibrium(CGE) model focus on a specific country. On the contrary, this study compares and analyses the $CO_2$ abatement cost functions across 20 countries, consisting of OECD countries, China and Brazil, with a CGE model. For this purpose, we estimate the GDP loss from $CO_2$ emission reduction, assuming the 4 sector model. Our findings show that those cost curves are convex but different among the countries. However, despite of the difference in the cost curios, we have found that one group of countries has the relatively constant average abatement cost and the other group has the increasing average cost. The reason why such a pattern occurs is explained in terms of the variations of value-added and $Co_2$ emission coefficient by sector across the countries. As an environmental policy implication, this study presents information about which country is similar to one another in terms of the abatement cost.

  • This paper is to propose an encryption method for only an allowed user to see the content for a digital hologram, that is a high value-added content. This paper uses a characteristic of Fresnel transform that the object region is concentrated to a relatively small part of the diffraction plane. By encrypting the concentrated part only the region to be encrypted and in turn the amount of data to be encrypted is reduced a lot, which results in an high efficiency with low encryption rate. As the methodology, a digital hologram is first Fresnel transformed for reconstruction and the result is secondly Fresnel transformed to concentrate the energy into the center of the diffraction plane to encrypt the concentrated region only. For the 2nd transform, energy concentration degree is determined by adjusting the diffraction distance and encryption strength is determined by adjusting the scaling factor. For this we analyze the optimal encryption area according to the diffraction distance and the scaling factor. When applying the proposed method with diffraction distance of 20m the object information was visually unrecognizable with the encryption ratio only 0.005% ~ 0.02%.

  • The purpose of this study was to inves-tigate the economic performance of the textile industry for the Korean traditional clothes. The content of this paper had two pars; The first part was for the macroeconomic aspects such as location production employments and the produc-tion facilities of the textile industries. The second part was for the microeconomic aspects such as business type branding method fabric type R&D efforts sourc-ing and the distributional channel The major results were as follows: 1.) Most textile firms for the korean traditional clothes were located in Gongju for man-made fibers and in Jinju for silk fabrics. 2) The size of the textile industry in terms of the number of business produc-tion amount the number of employee de-creased during 1994 and 1995 due to the decreasing demand. 3) Over the half of the textile firms produced raw fabric products while only 20% of them were involved in additional dyeing and /or printing finish which re-sulted in low value added production 4) The R&D effort of the textile indus-try for the Korean traditional clothes was very low due to the market uncertainty lack of technological knowledge and most of all small size of the firms 5) Most raw materials for the textile in -dustry were imported with high(25%) tariff rates resulting in price increase and thus low competitiveness in the market. 6) The textile producers sole about the 70% of their products to the wholesalers while selling the rest to the retailers di-rectly. This showed the dual structure of the distribution channel in the textile products. These results suggested some implica-tions for the firms the policy makers and the researchers. The firms should develop new and improved products to increase and create consumer demand by intensive R&D efforts. The government policy ma-kers should give financial supports the firms with R&D investment and legal help such as lowing tariff rate for the raw ma-terials. The researchers from the academy could help the textile industry with the advanced technological knowledge and up-date information for the consumer fashion demand.
