Specialization, Firm Dynamics and Economic Growth

  • Productivity in agriculture or services has long been understood as playing an important role in the growth of manufacturing. In this paper we present a general equilibrium model in which manufacturing growth is stimulated by non-manufacturing sectors that provides goods used in both research and final consumption. The model permits the evaluation of two policy options for stimulating manufacturing growth: (1) a country imports more non-manufacturing goods from a foreign country with higher productivity and (2) a country increases productivity of domestic non-manufacturing. We find that both policies improve welfare of the economy, but depending on the policy the manufacturing sector responses differently. Specifically, employment and value-added in manufacturing increase with policy (1), but contract with policy (2). Therefore, specialization of the import non-manufactured goods helps explain why some Asian economies experience rapid growth in the manufacturing sector without progress in other sectors.

Effects of Preheated Additives on the Fermentation Quality of Napiergrass Silage

  • Hydrolysis of plant protein to non-protein nitrogen (N) or ammonia can reduce quality of silage crops. Heating or non-enzymatic browning is a treatment to inhibit this hydrolysis. This experiment was conducted to examine the effects of pre-heated soybean meal and molasses on the fermentation quality of napiergrass silage. The initial growth of napiergrass was harvested at 85 days of age and immediately chopped into about 1 cm length. About 700 g of the grass was ensiled into a laboratory silo (1.0 liter polyethylene container) and incubated for 30 days at room temperature ($28^{\circ}C$). No additives (control), molasses, soybean meal and molasses + soybean meal treatments were prepared. All additives were non-heated or heated in an oven at $150^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes before ensiling. Molasses was added at 3% on the fresh weight basis and soybean meal was added at 0.5% N, respectively. After opening the silo, pH, total nitrogen (TN), volatile basic nitrogen (VBN), lactic acid (LA), acetic acid (AA), butyric acid (BA) and dry matter (DM) contents were determined. The data were analyzed statistically by analysis of variance. Compared with control, molasses addition significantly decreased pH value, VBN/TN, AA and BA and increased LA production. Soybean meal addition significantly increased TN and VBN/TN of silage. Both molasses and soybean meal addition significantly reduced pH value, AA, and BA and increased DM and LA contents of silage. The heating of additives was only effective to reduce VBN/TN production compared with non-heated additives in soybean meal and soybean meal with molasses addition.

Engineering Cellulose Fibers for High-Value Added Products for Pulp & Paper Industry

  • Cellulose fibers is one of the most abundant in nature. It has many distinctive features: abundant in nature, biodegradable, non-toxic, eco-friendly, sustainable, easy to fabricate, hydrophilic, and cost-effective. Cellulose fibers, known as pulp, is produced from cellulose-containing materials by the pulping process. As the raw material, wood has been most commonly used while recycled pulp has been also used to some degree. Thus, pulp usually refers to wood pulp. Generally, the pulp and paper industry is regarded as the commodity market where the cost should be much more important than the quality. It also belongs to a mature market where the growth is slow, or even in decline. Accordingly, technological development has been rather stagnant for the industry. Recently, however, the pulp and paper industry has faced very serious challenges. First, due to digital technology, there has been a steady decline in the need for pulp and paper products. The digital industry has continuously replaced printed products such as books, newspapers, and magazines. Second, there has been a trend initiated by developed countries to limit the use of wood as the raw material for the sake of environmental protection. This forces the industry to find a more efficient use of wood pulp as well as finding alternative, non-wood sources. Third, as an individual becomes wealthier and more conscious of health-care, the quality of a product becomes more important than the cost. Thus, a paradigm shift is needed from the cost-conscientious to the quality conscientious. The objective of this article is to review the technologies aimed at engineering cellulose fibers for producing high-value added paper products.

오디 분말 첨가가 들기름 마요네즈의 품질특성 및 산화 안정성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Mulberry Powder on Quality Characteristics and Oxidative Stability of Mayonnaise prepared with Perilla Oil)

  • This study aimed to investigate the changes in antioxidant activities, quality characteristics, and storage stability of mayonnaise prepared with perilla oil with the addition of mulberry powder ranging from 0 to 5%. The antioxidant activities of perilla oil mayonnaise (PM), as determined by DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activity, as well as FRAP and total phenolics content were improved by the addition of mulberry powder compared with the control sample. Antioxidant activities were dependent on the amount of mulberry powder added. Lipid oxidation of PM decreased with a higher amount of mulberry powder, based on measurements of peroxide value. The emulsion stability of PM increased with decreases in the amount of mulberry powder level. The a-value in PM color increased with increasing amount of mulberry powder. Sensory evaluation showed that the highest score in overall acceptability of PM was achieved with 4% mulberry.

호염성 세균 Micrococcus Sp.가 생산하는 RNase의 특성 (Characteristics of the RNase from the moderate halophile, Micrococcus sp.)

  • RNase를 강하게 분비하는 균을 젓갈류서 분리하여 호염성 Micrococcus sp.로 동정하였다. 선정균은 NaCl을 2M 함유하는 pH 7.0의 CM배지에서 $35^{\circ}C$로 2일간 배양할 때 생육이 가장 양호하였으며 yeast extract 2.0%, casamino acid 1.5%, NaCl 2.0M, pH 8.5의 배지에서 $35^{\circ}C$로 2일간 배양할 때 효소 생산이 최대였다. 조효소액을 유안 염석과 이온교환 크로마토그라피, gel 여과 등으로 정제한 결과 비활성이 98.8 units/mg, 정제도는 39.4배, 수율은 0.9% 이었다. 정제 효소의 작용 최적 pH는 8.0, 온도는 $55^{\circ}C$이었으며 RNA를 기질로 한 Km값은 5mg/ml이었다. NaCI농도에 따른 효소활성은 무첨가조건에서 가장 높았고 1.25M에서 활성이 소설되었다가 다시 증가되어 2.5M에서는 무첨가구의 45% 활성을 보였다.

Lateral Resistance of CLT Wall Panels Composed of Square Timber Larch Core and Plywood Cross Bands

  • Thinned, small larch logs have small diameters and no value-added final use, except as wood chips, pallets, or fuel wood, which are products with very low economic value; however, their mechanical strength is suitable for structural applications. In this study, small larch logs were sawed, dried, and cut into square timbers (with a $90mm{\times}90mm$ cross section) that were laterally glued to form core panels used to manufacture cross-laminated timber (CLT) wall panels. The surface and back of these core panels were covered with 12-mm-thick structural plywood panels, used as cross bands to obtain three-ply CLT wall panels. This attachment procedure was conducted in two different ways: gluing and pressing (CGCLT) or gluing and nailing (NGCLT). The size of the as-manufactured CLT panels was $1,220mm{\times}2,440mm$, the same as that of the plywood panels. The final wall panels were tested under lateral shear force in accordance with KS F 2154. As the lateral load resistance test required $2,440mm{\times}2,440mm$ specimens, two CLT wall panels had to be attached in parallel. In addition, the final CLT panels had tongued and grooved edges to allow parallel joints between adjacent pieces. For comparison, conventional light-frame timber shear walls and midply wall systems were also tested under the same conditions. Shear walls with edge nail spacing of 150 mm and 100 mm, the midply wall system, and the fabricated CGCLT and NGCLT wall panels exhibited maximum lateral resistances of 6.1 kN/m (100%), 9.7 kN/m (158%), 16.9 kN/m (274%), 29.6 kN/m (482%), and 35.8 kN/m (582%), respectively.

고부가가치 특용작물 재배를 위한 보급형 스마트팜 시스템 개발 (Development of a Low Cost Smart Farm System for Cultivating High Value-added Specialized Crops)

  • 전 세계적인 인구증가와 기후변화로 인해 식량부족 문제가 대두되는 가운데 우리나라에서는 농·축산업 인구 감소 등 지속가능성 위기를 해결하기 위해 농업과 ICT를 융합한 첨단 스마트팜 기술이 활발히 연구되고 있다. 기존 스마트팜은 개별 가격경쟁력이 낮은 작물 위주로 재배하고 있다. 식품 소비구조가 고급화, 다양화되고 있으며 농산물 소비패턴의 변화에 따라 스마트팜 시스템 또한 고부가가치 특용작물 재배를 위한 최적화가 필요하다. 이를 위해 새싹인삼(새싹삼) 재배에 특화된 컨테이너형 스마트팜 환경설비를 구축하고 ICT 융합통합관리시스템을 설계하고 구현하였다. 이를 통해 ICT와 농업, 최신 기술과 농사의 융합으로 첨단농업생산구현 및 미래융합 신산업 선도가 가능하다.

Improved Deep Residual Network for Apple Leaf Disease Identification

  • Plant disease is one of the most irritating problems for agriculture growers. Thus, timely detection of plant diseases is of high importance to practical value, and corresponding measures can be taken at the early stage of plant diseases. Therefore, numerous researchers have made unremitting efforts in plant disease identification. However, this problem was not solved effectively until the development of artificial intelligence and big data technologies, especially the wide application of deep learning models in different fields. Since the symptoms of plant diseases mainly appear visually on leaves, computer vision and machine learning technologies are effective and rapid methods for identifying various kinds of plant diseases. As one of the fruits with the highest nutritional value, apple production directly affects the quality of life, and it is important to prevent disease intrusion in advance for yield and taste. In this study, an improved deep residual network is proposed for apple leaf disease identification in a novel way, a global residual connection is added to the original residual network, and the local residual connection architecture is optimized. Including that 1,977 apple leaf disease images with three categories that are collected in this study, experimental results show that the proposed method has achieved 98.74% top-1 accuracy on the test set, outperforming the existing state-of-the-art models in apple leaf disease identification tasks, and proving the effectiveness of the proposed method.

기업가정신, 전략적지향성과 경제적·사회적 가치 간 관계연구: 6차산업화 인증기업을 중심으로 (The Relationship between Entrepreneurship, Strategic Orientation, and Socio-Economic Values: Focusing on Companies Certified as Sixth Industrialization Enterprises)

  • 농림축산식품부에서는 농업 분야에서의 부가가치를 제고시키기 위해 6차산업화 인증 제도를 마련하였음에도 아직은 충분한 부가가치를 창출하는 단계로 접어들었다고 보기에 어려움이 있다. 특히 4차산업혁명으로 인하여 산업 전 분야에 기술혁신 등의 변화가 크고, 기업의 사회적 역할에 대한 사회 구성원들의 인식전환이 급격히 이루어지고 있다. 이러한 현상을 극복하고 경쟁력을 갖출 수 있는 실마리를 찾고자 6차산업화 인증기업을 대상으로 기업가정신과 전략적지향성, 그리고 경제적 사회적 가치에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 농림축산식품부의 6차산업화 인증을 받은 800개 기업을 연구표본으로 선정하였으며, 불성실한 응답을 제외한 275개의 설문을 최종 분석대상으로 하였다. 연구결과, 6차산업화인증 기업의 특성을 반영하는 자율성을 포함한 기업가정신은 경제적가치에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미쳤다. 또한 6차산업화 인증 기업의 중소규모 현황과 4차산업혁명 으로의 혁신 중인 산업흐름을 반영하여 고객니즈에 더욱 집중할 수 있는 고객지향성과 농업에서도 기술을 하나의 경쟁요인으로 받아들이기 위한 기술지향성을 포함하는 전략적지향성은 경제적가치에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미침을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 전략적지향성은 사회적가치에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미쳤으며, 기업가정신은 경제적가치에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미치나, 반면 사회적가치에는 유의한 영향을 미치지 않았다. 마지막으로 전략적지향성은 기업가정신과 경제적가치 간 직접효과가 높아 매개효과를 가지지 않지만, 기업가정신과 사회적가치 간에서는 완전매개 효과를 가진다는 점을 실증하였다. 이에 본 연구의 주요 시사점은 기업가정신 뿐 아니라 고객 중심적 사고와 기술변화에 대응할 수 있는 전략적지향성을 갖춘다면 경제적가치를 넘어 지속성장 요인으로 조명 받고 있는 사회적가치를 창출함에 있어 영향력 있는 요인으로 작용할 것이라는 점이다.

Hydrocolloids의 첨가가 냉동기간에 따른 Par Baked 바게트 품질 특성에 미치는 영향 (Quality Characteristics of Par Baked Baguette Containing Hydrocolloids according to Frozen Periods)

  • Hydrocolloids로 arabic gum, carboxymethylcellulose, pectin 등을 밀가루 대비 각각 0.2와 0.5% 첨가하여 제조한 par baked 바게트를 냉동저장(-18oC)하면서 1주일 간격으로 해동 후 구워 비용적, 수분함량, 경도 및 관능검사 등을 분석하였다. 비용적은 3주 저장 시 CMC을 0.2% 첨가한 것이 3.20 cc/g로 가장 높았고, 수분함량은 대조구와 시험구간에 변화가 거의 없었으며, 경도는 3주 저장 시 pectin을 0.2% 첨가한 것이 가장 낮아 부드러운 것으로 나타났다. 관능검사에서 저장 3주에 pectin을 0.2% 첨가한 것의 전체적인 기호도가 가장 높은 점수를 얻었다. 이상의 연구에서 par baked바게트를 냉동저장 시 pectin을 0.2% 첨가한 제품의 특성이 가장 좋은 것으로 나타났다.
