A vacuum system is designed for thermal insulation of a 10 ton/day class air liquefaction cold box for liquid air energy storage. The vacuum system is composed of a turbomolecular pump, a backing pump and vacuum piping for the vacuum pumps. The turbomolecular pump is in combination with the backing pump for pumping capacity. The vacuum piping is designed with system installation conditions, such as distance from the cold box, connections to vacuum pumps and installation space. The capacity of the vacuum pump combination, namely pumping speed, is determined by analysis of the vacuum system, and pump-down time to 1×10-5 mbar is estimated. Vacuum piping conductance, system pumping speed and outgassing rate are calculated for the pump-down time with the ultimate pumping speed range of the vacuum pump combination of 1400 - 2300 l/s. Although the pump-down time gets shorter by larger capacity vacuum pumps, it mainly depends on target vacuum degree and outgassing rate in the cold box. The pump-down time is estimated as 3 - 6 hours appropriate for cold box operation for the pumping speed range. Considering the outgassing rate has uncertainty, the vacuum pump combination with pumping speed of 1900 l/s is chosen for the vacuum system, which is middle value of the pumping speed range.
Schematic of RAON vacuum system is introduced. Vacuum test for superconducting cavity with liquid nitrogen is performed. Schematic plan for RAON vacuum system is introduced and vacuum control system for superconducting cavity test is constructed. Vacuum pressure of cavity is shown as a function of pumping time. The temperature of cavity is shown as a function of cooling time. Outgassing species from cavity is also detected. Detailed experimental procedure is presented to test the cavity vacuum with liquid nitrogen.
Effective porosity has been measured for cement specimen as a function of vacuum time and pressure in the vacuum saturation process. Six cement specimen are used; three of them are made of the same ratio of cement and sand, the other three are 100% cement mortar, of which average porosity is about 25% and 40%, respectively. Using the 6 samples, measured effective porosities are compared and examined with 5 different vacuum pressures (2, 4, 6, 8, 10 torr) and times (20, 40, 60, 80, 100 minute), respectively. Comparing measured effective porosity from experiments when vacuum time varies from 100 minute to 20 minute with 20 minute step and vacuum pressure is fixed to 10, 6, and 2 torr, average deviation decreases as 0.6, 0.5, and 0.2% respectively. Comparing measured effective porosity from experiments when vacuum pressure varies from 2 torr to 10 torr with 2 torr step and vacuum time is fixed to 100, 60, and 20 minute, average deviation increases as vacuum time decreases. These results can be a background of suggested method of ISRM that describes the vacuum time longer than 60 minute and vacuum pressure higher than 6 torr. In this study, only qualitative discussion can be possible for the effects on the effective porosity by decreasing 20 minute vacuuming time at the same pressure or by decreasing 2 torr of vacuum pressure at the same vacuum time. This is because the sample could not reached to perfectly dried condition even though the sample were dried at $105^{\circ}C$ and following the ISRM suggested method, so that initial water content could not be the same at each experiment.
The vacuum consolidation method which was proposed by Kjellman in 1952 has been studied extensively and used successfully since early 1980 throughout the world, especially in East and Southeast Asia. Despite the increased successful use, different opinions still exist, especially in connection to distribution of vacuum with depth and time in vertical drains and in soil during preloading of soft ground. Porewater pressure measurements from actual cases of field vacuum and vacuum-fill preloading as well as laboratory studies have been examined. It is concluded that (a) a vacuum magnitude equal to that in the drainage blanket remains constant with depth and time within the vertical drains, (b) as expected, vacuum does not develop at the same rate within the soil at different depths; however, under ideal conditions vacuum is expected to become constant with depth in soil after the end of primary consolidation, and (c) there exists a possibility of internal leakage in vacuum intensity at some sublayers of a soft clay and silt deposit. A case history of vacuum loading with sufficient subsurface information is analyzed using the ILLICON procedure.
In case of using rapid vacuum-freeze drying for high quality dry flower of flowering plant, the morphological and physiological characteristics of dry rose showed as the following. The dry ratio of about 82% presented after 1 day in case of using rapid vacuum-freeze drying and it was reached that the optimum storage water content of general dry products was 18%. The dry ratio of about 89% presented after 4 days. This result indicates very short dry time comparing with natural dry time of 12 days. Also, the morphological characteristics of flowering plant in case of vacuum-freeze drying showed similar shape with real flower. The contraction decreased about 9% comparing with real flower under dry time of 72 hours. But the contraction in case of natural dry decreased 36% and showed noticeable difference. The brightness which affects physiological characteristics of dry flowering plant showed lower values according to the dry process and chromaticity was thick. After 4 days, natural dry was thick with about 2 times comparing with vacuum-freeze drying. In case of vacuum-freeze drying, the quantity of anthocyanin and chlorophyl which affect discoloration and bleaching of dry flowering plant showed the clear difference comparing with natural dry method due to the sublimation by vacuum after rapid freeze with short initial time.
The vacuum preloading method has been used in many countries for soil improvement and land reclamation. However, the treatment time is long and the improvement effect is poor for the straight-line vacuum preloading method. To alleviate such problems, a novel combined air booster and straight-line vacuum preloading method for shallow ground treatment is proposed in this study. Two types of traditional vacuum preloading and combined air booster and straight-line vacuum preloading tests were conducted and monitored in the field. In both tests, the depth of prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs) is 4.5m, the distance between PVDs is 0.8m, and the vacuum preloading time is 60 days. The prominent difference between the two methods is when the preloading time is 45 days, the injection pressure of 250 kPa is adopted for combined air booster and straight-line vacuum preloading test to inject air into the ground. Based on the monitoring data, this paper systematically studied the mechanical parameters, hydraulic conductivity, pore water pressure, settlement and subsoil bearing capacity, as determined by the vane shear strength, to demonstrate that the air-pressurizing system can improve the consolidation. The consolidation time decreased by 15 days, the pore water pressure decreased to 60.49%, and the settlement and vane shear strengths increased by 45.31% and 6.29%, respectively, at the surface. These results demonstrate the validity of the combined air booster and straight-line vacuum preloading method. Compared with the traditional vacuum preloading, the combined air booster and straight-line vacuum preloading method has better reinforcement effect. In addition, an estimation method for evaluating the average degree of consolidation and an empirical formula for evaluating the subsoil bearing capacity are proposed to assist in engineering decision making.
Vacuum-assisted thermoforming is one of the critical steps for the successful application of film insert molding(FIM) to parts of complex shapes. If the thickness distribution of the formed film is non-uniform, cracking, deformation, warping, and wrinkling can easily occur at the injection molding stage. In this study, the effects of processing parameters, which include the film heating time, plug depth, plug speed and vacuum delay time, on film thickness distribution were investigated. It was found that the film thickness at the part sidewall decreases with increasing the film heating time and plug depth, but the thickness at the bottom was found to exhibit the opposite behavior. The film thickness of the sidewall was observed to increase at higher plug speed and vacuum delay time of 0 ~ 0.3sec.

We need refrigeration system which can maintain the freshness of agricultural products, because of being distance from a tiller to a consumer. Vacuum Pre-cooling system has an advantage in quality maintenance through vapid cooling down by using latent heat of evaporation of stored products. A number or thawing methods in current use have also several disadvantages in thawing time. discoloration mass loss caused by drying, capital costs and running cost. These damages are, it is claimed, either eliminated or improved by the vacuum thawing system. An experimental study on the pre-cooling for the bean sprouts and cabbage, and thawing for hairtail and croaker by the low temperature vacuum system were carried out. The cabbage cooling time with this Pre-cooling vacuum system took about 60 minutes to reach from $23.2^{circ}C to 4.5^{\circ}C$ at 5 mmHg abs. ($6.66\times10^{-4}$ MPa). The croaker thawing time with this low temperature vacuum thawing system took about 170 minutes to reach from $-10.3^{circ}C to -0.8^{\circ}C$ at 20 mmHg abs ($2.67\tiems10^{-3}$MPa). The vacuum Pre-cooling and thawing system have merits compared with present systems in their short intervals to cool down and to thaw without any quality losses.
The present study aimed to assess and compare the quality characteristics and antioxidant activities of apple juice and blueberry juice at hourly intervals over a period of time based on the presence or absence of vacuum blending (0 and 800 hPa) using a household blender. Measurement of the dissolved oxygen content revealed that the removal rates of dissolved oxygen were approximately 83% and 86% in the apple and blueberry juice samples, respectively, after vacuum blending. Moreover, compared with general blending, there was little change in the antioxidant property and degree of browning over time with vacuum blending. Furthermore, hourly assessments revealed that the decrease in the polyphenol and flavonoid contents in the apple and blueberry juice samples was significantly lesser with vacuum blending for 3, 6, and 12 h than with general blending. Assessment of the change in ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) activity over time revealed that the rate of decrease in FRAP activity over time was lower with vacuum blending than with general blending for both juice samples. ABTS and DPPH radical scavenging assays performed to determine the change in free radical scavenging activity revealed inhibitory activity at 0, 3, 6, and 12 h and confirmed that vacuum blending resulted in long-lasting antioxidant activities in both apple and blueberry juice samples. Taken together, the present results confirmed that vacuum blending is associated with superior quality maintenance and antioxidant properties in comparison with general blending.
