By supplying air intermittently in various mode, the effects of oxic/anoxic time ratio and air scrubbing in aeration condition on the membrane flux and permeability were investigated. When suction pump stops, vacuum pressure remains inside the suction pump. Therefore, the effect of remaining vacuum pressure in the suction pump on fouling of membrane was investigated. The effect of EPS (Extra cellular Polymeric Substance) which is generated due to the long SRT and high concentration of MLSS and the dose of coagulant on the membrane were also investigated. The suitable oxic/anoxic time ratio for the best removal efficiency of organic matter and nitrogenous matter was 40 minutes (Oxic) : 20 minutes (Anoxic). At this time ratio, alum was dosed into the aeration tank. The result of dosing alum was that the concentration of alum solution might affect nitrification and denitrification. To remove 1 mg/L of phosphorus in MBR process, it needs 0.75 mg/L of alum solution.

This paper presents a technique to minimize damaged wafers during loading. A thin wafer used in solar cells and semiconductors can be damaged easily. This makes it difficult to separate the wafer due to surface tension between the loaded wafers. A technique for minimizing damaged wafers is to supply compressed air to the wafer and simultaneously apply a small horizontal movement mechanism. The main experimental factors used in this study were the supply speed of wafers, the nozzle pressure of the compressed air, and the suction time of a vacuum head. A higher supply speed of the wafer under the same nozzle pressure and lower nozzle pressure under the same supply speed resulted in a higher failure rate. Furthermore, the damage rate, according to the wafer supply speed, was unaffected by the suction time to grip a wafer. The optimal experiment conditions within the experimental range of this study are the wafer supply speed of 600 ea/hr, nozzle air pressure of 0.55 MPa, and suction time of 0.9 sec at the vacuum head. In addition, the technology improved by the repeatability performance tests can minimize the damaged wafer rate.
Suction drain method can directly apply vacuum pressure to the soft ground through vertical drains so it can make hardening zones around them. These hardening zones make steeply lower the discharge efficiency of the pore water with decreasing permeability. This paper considered a stepped vacuum pressure to minimize a hardening zone which is one of the important parameters that can decrease discharge efficiency. A series of laboratory tests were conducted in order to examine the effect of the hardening zones and to evaluate their effects to the ground improvements with varying durations which applied stepped vacuum pressures(-20kPa, -40kPa, -60kPa and -80kPa) with Busan marine clay. According to strength(CPT), water content test and theoretical investigation indicate a size of the hardening zone within 7cm and the decreasing ratio of permeability about 2.0~4.0. Also, the total settlements are larger for the stepped vacuum pressure than the instant vacuum loading. The application time with vacuum pressure is determined considering the geotechnical properties of the interested clays. Results of numerical analysis show that consolidation behavior is appropriate to measurement for considering hardening zones.

This paper deals with the effects of welding, which is done to fix the stator stack, on a motor in case of fabricating a prototype motor that is manufactured in a small quantity. In the case of a small motor, the stator is designed and fabricated with the segmented core as a way to raise the fill factor of winding wire to the utmost within a limited size. In case of fabrication by welding both inside and outside of the stator in order to fix the segmented-core stator, the effects of stack are ignored, and the eddy current loss occurs. This paper performed the no-load test on an IPM-type BLDC motor for driving the suction fan of a vacuum cleaner, which was manufactured by using a segmented-core stator. As a result of the test, it was found that input power more than expected was supplied. To analyze the effects of welding by using the finite element analysis method and verify them experimentally, a stator was re-manufactured by bonding, and input power supplied during the no-load test was compared.
The newly devised column set is better than the conventional method with centrifuge, suction filter instruments for saturating of the salt and washing out the excess of salt for C. E. C. determination in soils. 1. The new method has a high significance with one suction filter set. 2. The new method deminishes the time and effort of analysis by one third. It can analyze many samples at a time. 3. It is able to analyze without expensive instruments (e. g. vaccum pump, shaker, suction apparatus and centrifuge).
A vacuum cleaner is the widely used home equipment. However, it has a trouble with too much power consumption. Most losses occur at the centrifugal fan. To remedy this trouble the investigation of motor, which is the main component of vacuum cleaner, is required. The flow characteristics around the high-speed rotating centrifugal fan which is influenced by the very low inlet pressure is quite different from a commonly used fan. Hence it is quite difficult to analyze the flow by the experimental means or by the numerical simulation. In this research, it is aimed to improve the air-suction performance of a vacuum cleaner through the flow analysis around a motor. The efficiency of the centrifugal fan is affected by blade shape, blade number, blade pitch, etc. The influence of the shape of impeller on the flow is investigated in this study. The flow around the centrifugal fan is simulated by applying the moving mesh. To verify the validity of the computation results, the air flow rate and the pressure field to the cleaner is compared with the experimental data. All simulations are performed by using commercial code SC/Tetra. The calculated results show good agreement with the experimental ones and it is believed to be promising to use computational simulation in the improvement of the vacuum cleaner performance.

This paper discusses the design and control of a switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive system for a built-in car vacuum cleaner. The growing popularity of outdoor activities and recreation has led the automobile industry to expand technologies that increase the convenience of vehicles, and thus, a built-in car vacuum cleaner was introduced. However, the existing DC motor of a vacuum cleaning system has several disadvantages, such as maintenance cost and lifespan issues of its commutator-brush structure. An SRM can be a good alternative to the existing DC motor because of its high-speed capability, long lifespan, low maintenance cost, and high efficiency, among other advantages. A prototype SRM drive is designed and manufactured to verify its feasibility for use in a built-in car vacuum cleaning system. Dynamic simulation is conducted to determine the optimal switching angle for maximum efficiency and minimum torque ripple. Load test, noise measurement, and suction-power tests are also carried out.

This investigation is the result of a structural analysis by FEM and test to define the deformation mode of the Up-Right type Vacuum-Cleaner's Nozzle-Cover. In FEM analysis, 3 different conditions were considered separately, such as (1) Compressive force by Belt tension, (2) Friction heat between Belt and shaft and (3) Compressive force combined with heat. Throughout FEM analysis it was found that the deformation was caused by heat and it was proved through a simulation test with a real product.

The thrust vector control using a fluidic counterflow concept is achieved by applying a vacuum to a slot adjacent to a primary jet which is shrouded by a suction collar. The vacuum produces a secondary reverse flowing stream near the primary. The shear layers between the two counterflowing streams mix and entrain mass from the surrounding fluid. The presence of the collar inhibits mass entrainment and the flow m the collar accelerates causing a drop in pressure on the collar. For the vacuum asymmetrically applied to one side of the nozzle, the jet will vector toward the low-pressure region. The present study is performed to investigate the effectiveness of thrust vector control using the fluidic counterflow concept. A computational work is carried out using the two-dimensional, compressible Navier-Stokes equations, with several kinds of turbulence models. The computational results are compared with the previous experimental ones. It is found that the present fluidic counterflow concept is a viable method to vector the thrust of a propulsion system.
