REMOVAL OF DISSOLVED OXYGEN USING PVDF HOLLOW FIBER MEMBRANE CONTACTOR

  • The removal of dissolved oxygen(DO) from water was studied using a poly(vinyliene fluoride)(PVDF) hollow fiber membrane contactor(HFMC) with the vacuum degassing process(VDP), Asymmetric porous PVDF hollow fiber membranes (HFM) for membrane contactor were prepared by a wet phase inversion method. In spinning of these PVDF hollow fibers, dimethy lacetamide (DMAc), LiCl and pure water were used as a solvent, a pore-forming additive and internal/external coagulant, respectively. The characteristics of the structure(pore size, porosity etc.) of the prepared PVDF HFMs as a function of concentration of pore-forming additive in polymer dope solution were studied. Also, the removal efficiency of DO from water according to flow rates of water, using PVDF HFMC with VDP, was studied. The performance of the asymmetric porous PVDF HFMC and a symmetric porous PP HFMC commercialized were compared. As a result, the asymmetric porous PVDF HFMC showed higher removal efficiency of DO than that of a symmetric porous PP HFMC.

Fabrication of $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ Superconducting Coils with Polymer Binder (유기물 바인더를 사용한 $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ 초전도 Coil의 제조)

  • One of the possible ways to make a flexible wire of high-Tc superconductiong ceramics is the extrusion of a mixture slurry of superconducting powder with an appropriate polymer binder. The fabrication procedure for $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ superconducting coils with this plastic mass is described. The major factors limiting the formation of extruded wire are the binder content, powder size, and entrapped gas in the mixture slurries. The optimum content of binder for both good flexbility and strength of wire was estimated to be 30wt%. The finer the powder size is, the more homogeneous structure the extruded wire has. The vacuum degassing before extrusion was necessary to remove the entrapped gas in as-extruded wire. The formability of wire depends greatly on the wire radius and binder content. After burning out the binder and the successive sintering, the contacts between the superconducting grains could be made. The resistivity vs. temperature behavior measured in the final wire showed the transition temperature of 90K with narrow transition width. However, the critical current densities of these wires are much lower in comparison to those of conventional bulk specimens.

Improving Reproducibility of Coercivity of HDDR-treated Nd-Fe-B-type Material by Controlling Hydrogen Decrepitation (수소파쇄 제어를 통한 HDDR 처리한 Nd-Fe-B계 재료의 보자력 재현성 향상)

  • Practical difficulty in the HDDR (hydrogenation - disproportionation - desorption - recombination) processing of Nd-Fe-B-type alloy is a poor reproducibility of coercivity of the HDDR-treated material. In an attempt to improve the reproducibility of coercivity of the HDDR-treated $Nd_{12.5}Fe_{80.6}B_{6.4}Ga_{0.3}Nb_{0.2}$ alloy, the hydrogen decrepitation was carefully controlled so as to induce more extensive micro-cracks in the particle. Prior to the hydrogenation and disproportionation reaction of HDDR processing, an additional hydrogen degassing was carried out at an elevated temperature of $600^{\circ}C$ under vacuum for the previously hydrogen decrepitated particle. During the additional hydrogen degassing the lattice of hydrogen absorbed $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ phase was further shrunken, hence more microcracks were introduced in the particle due to its brittle nature. Particles with more micro-cracks had more homogeneous hydrogen absorption and desorption reaction during the HDDR-treatment. The improved reproducibility of coercivity of the HDDR-treated material was attributed to the improved homogeneity of the HDDR reactions due to the presence of more micro-cracks.

고강도 및 파괴인성을 갖는 AI-Li-Cu 합금 개발

  • High strength and fracture toughness of Al-Li-Cu alloy(2090 Al alloy) have been achieved by the improvement of melting and casting, extrusion and heat treatment techniques. To establish the sucessful process for semi-industrial scale ingot(20Kg) the following areas have been investigated: (1) Improvement of melting and casting techniques for ingot by introducing atmospheric modifications, vacuum and rotary degassing, and deslagging. (2) The effect of heat treatment on mechanical properties (3) Mechanical characterization by tensile test, fracture toughness test and fatigue crack propagation test. High mechanical properties were found to be intimately related with ingot soundness. Tensile strength of final products varied from 534MPa to 566MPa in peak aged condition while elongation/ductility ranged from 9.0% to 11.9%. From the fracture toughness test with using compact tensile specimen, plane strain fracture toughness($K_{Ic}$) appeared to be 39MPa${\surd}$m in peak aged condition and 23MPa${\surd}$ m in underaged condition. When load ratios of 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5 were given ${\Delta}K_{th}$ was 6.0MPa${\surd}$ m, 5.3MPa${\surd}$ m and 4.3MPa${\surd}$ m respectively.
