Online VQ Codebook Generation using a Triangle Inequality (삼각 부등식을 이용한 온라인 VQ 코드북 생성 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose an online VQ Codebook generation method for updating an existing VQ Codebook in real-time and adding to an existing cluster with newly created text data which are news paper, web pages, blogs, tweets and IoT data like sensor, machine. Without degrading the performance of the batch VQ Codebook to the existing data, it was able to take advantage of the newly added data by using a triangle inequality which modifying the VQ Codebook progressively show a high degree of accuracy and speed. The result of applying to test data showed that the performance is similar to the batch method.

  • In the era of big data, algorithms for the existing IT environment cannot accept on a distributed architecture such as hadoop. Thus, new distributed algorithms which apply a distributed framework such as MapReduce are needed. Lloyd's algorithm commonly used for vector quantization is developed using MapReduce recently. In this paper, we proposed a decombined distributed VQ codebook generation algorithm based on a distributed VQ codebook generation algorithm using MapReduce to get a result more fast. The result of applying the proposed algorithm to big data showed higher performance than the conventional method.

  • Active data are the input data which are changed its membership as Vector Quantization codebook generation algorithm is processed. In the process of VQ codebook generation algorithm performed, the actual active data out of the entire input data will be less presented as the process is performed. Therefore, if we can accurately find the active data and only if we are going to do VQ codebook generation on the active data, then we can significantly reduce the overall generation time. In this paper, we presented the triangle inequality based algorithm to select the active data. Experimental results show that our algorithm is superior to other methods in terms of the VQ codebook generation time.

Fast VQ Codebook Design by Sucessively Bisectioning of Principle Axis (주축의 연속적 분할을 통한 고속 벡터 양자화 코드북 설계)

  • This paper proposes a new codebook generation method, called a PCA-Based VQ, that incorporates the PCA (Principal Component Analysis) technique into VQ (Vector Quantization) codebook design. The PCA technique reduces the data dimensions by transforming input image vectors into the feature vectors. The cluster of feature vectors in the transformed domain is bisectioned into two subclusters by an optimally chosen partitioning hyperplane. We expedite the searching of the optimal partitioning hyperplane that is the most time consuming process by considering that (1) the optimal partitioning hyperplane is perpendicular to the first principal axis of the feature vectors, (2) it is located on the equilibrium point of the left and right cluster's distortions, and (3) the left and right cluster's distortions can be adjusted incrementally. This principal axis bisectioning is successively performed on the cluster whose difference of distortion between before and after bisection is the maximum among the existing clusters until the total distortion of clusters becomes as small as the desired level. Simulation results show that the proposed PCA-based VQ method is promising because its reconstruction performance is as good as that of the SOFM (Self-Organizing Feature Maps) method and its codebook generation is as fast as that of the K-means method.

  • Vector Transformation is a new method unified vector quantization and coding. So far, codebook generation applied to coding was LBG algorithm. But using the advantage of SOFM(Self-Organizing Feature Map) based on neural network can improve a system's performance. In this paper, we generated VTC(Vector Transformation Coding) codebook applied with SOFM algorithm and compare the result for several coding rates with LBG algorithm. The problem of Vector quantization is complicated calculation and codebook generation. So, to solve this problem, we used neural network approach method.

  • In the compression methods widely used today, the image compression by VQ is the most popular and shows a good data compression ratio. Almost all the methods by VQ use the LBG algorithm that reads the entire image several times and moves code vectors into optimal position in each step. This complexity of algorithm requires considerable amount of time to execute. To overcome this time consuming constraint, we propose an enhanced self-organizing neural network for color images. VQ is an image coding technique that shows high data compression ratio. In this study, we improved the competitive learning method by employing three methods for the generation of codebook. The results demonstrated that compression ratio by the proposed method was improved to a greater degree compared to the SOM in neural networks.

  • In this paper, we proposed the study on speaker-independent isolated word recognition for DDD area-name using vector quantization and chose total 146 DDD area-name to recognize words for application of dialing system. We made the codebook using 12th LPC cepstrum coefficients and used the minsum and the minimax method to find the centroid and we applied 3 splitting rule to a codebook generation. The single section and the multi section with time information were used to generate the codebooks and the over-lapped section codebook was used, too. From the experiment result, we proved that the minsum method was better than the minimax method and the evaluation of the system yielded an accuracy of about 90 percents In case of speaker-independent.

  • In this paper, a new codebook design algorithm is proposed. It uses a DCT map based on two-dimensional discrete cosine of transform (2D DCT) and finite state vector quantizer (FSVQ) when the vector quantizer is designed for image transmission. We make the map by dividing input image according to edge quantity, then by the map, the significant features of training image are extracted by using the 2D DCT. A master codebook of FSVQ is generated by partitioning the training set using binary tree based on tree-structure. The state codebook is constructed from the master codebook, and then the index of input image is searched at not master codebook but state codebook. And, because the coding of index is important part for high speed digital transmission, it converts fixed length codes to variable length codes in terms of entropy coding rule. The huffman coding assigns transmission codes to codes of codebook. This paper proposes single-side growing huffman tree to speed up huffman code generation process of huffman tree. Compared with the pairwise nearest neighbor (PNN) and classified VQ (CVQ) algorithm, about Einstein and Bridge image, the new algorithm shows better picture quality with 2.04 dB and 2.48 dB differences as to PNN, 1.75 dB and 0.99 dB differences as to CVQ respectively.
