With the increase in power consumption due to the surge in the demand for power, it is necessary to improve the quality or design of the power (supply) for the purpose of reducing the energy consumption and so reduce the power loss. The switchboard is a mechanical device that receives electricity from the electricity generation facilities of KEPCO and divides it into the facilities required for each building. Switchboards generally consist of enclosures, switches, power conductors, and control components. This study deals with energized power conductors, which constitute the main element in the switchboard. Through the measurement of the effective ac resistance, it was confirmed that the vertical array structure of the conventional type plate conductor is inefficient. If the effective AC resistance increases significantly, the sectional area of the conductor becomes relatively large due to the skin effect. In this study, we studied the energy and material savings that could be obtained using the asterisk (*) array structure, which minimizes the effective ac resistance by reducing the skin effect. The core technology principle of this study is the energy saving switchgear based on conductor resistance reduction technology utilizing the asterisk array structure. The present invention involves a plate-shaped conductor arrangement structure capable of canceling out the magnetic field generated on each of the plate conductors (rst or abc) of the AC power supply in the power distribution panel by mutual action. The effect of this structure is to reduce the amount of inductive reactance due to the increase in the cross-sectional area and reduction of the effective AC resistance.
High-frequency(40∼120 kHz) reflection loss measurements on the water-sandy sediment with a flat interface were conducted in a water tank for various grazing angles. The water tank(5×5×5 m) was filled with a 0.5 m-thick-flat bottom of 0.5ø-mean-grain-size sand. Reflection losses, which were experimentally obtained as a function of grazing angle and frequency, were compared with the forward loss model, APL-UW model (Mourad & Jackson, 1989). For frequencies below 60 kHz, the observed losses well agree with the reflection loss model, however, in cases for frequencies above 70 kHz, the observed losses are greater by 2∼3 dB than the model results. The model calculation, which does not fully account for the vertical scale of roughness due to grain size, produce less bottom losses compared to the observations that correspond to large roughness based on the Rayleigh parameter in the wave scattering theory. In conclusion, for the same grain-size-sediment, as frequencies increase, the grainsize becomes the scale of roughness that could be very large for the frequencies above 70 kHz. Therefore, although the sea bottom was flat, we have to consider the frequency dependence of an effect of roughness within confidential interval of grain size distribution in reflection loss model.

Downsizing is widely applied to diesel engines in order to improve fuel efficiency and reduce exhaust emissions. Engine sizes are becoming smaller but pressure and temperature inside combustion chambers are increasing. Therefore, research for fuel spray under high pressure and temperature conditions is important. A constant volume chamber which simulates high temperature and pressure likely to be found in diesel engines was developed in this study. Pressure and temperature were increased abruptly because of ignition of the pre-mixture in the constant volume chamber. Then pressure and temperature were gradually decreased due to the heat loss through the chamber wall. Fuel spray occurred when temperature and pressure were reached at the target condition. In this experiment, the temperature condition should be exactly defined to understand the relation between fuel evaporation and ambient temperature. A fast response thermocouple was developed and used to measure the temporal and spatial temperature distribution during the combustion process inside the combustion chamber. In the results, the core temperature was slightly higher than the bulk temperature calculated by the gas equation. Ed-note: do you want to say 'ideal gas equation'? This was attributed to the heat transfer loss through the chamber wall. The vertical temperature deviation was higher than the horizontal temperature deviation by 5% which resulted from the buoyancy effect.
Orientation data of discontinuities are of paramount importance for rock slope stability studies because they control the possibility of unstable conditions or excessive deformation. Most orientation data are collected by using linear sampling techniques, such as borehole fracture mapping and the detailed scanline method (outcrop mapping). However, these data, acquired by the above linear sampling techniques, are subjected to bias, owing to the orientation of the sampling line. Even though a weighting factor is applied to orientation data in order to reduce this bias, the bias will not be significantly reduced when certain sampling orientations are involved. That is, if the linear sampling orientation nearly parallels the discontinuity orientation, most discontinuities orientation data which are parallel to sampling line will be excluded from the survey result. This phenomenon can cause serious misinterpretation of discontinuity orientation data because critical information is omitted. In the case study, orientation data collected by using the borehole fracture mapping method (vertical scanline) were compared to those based on orientation data from the detailed scanline method (horizontal scanline). Differences in results for the two procedures revealed a concern that a representative orientation of discontinuities was not accomplished. Equal-area, polar stereo nets were used to determine the distribution of dip angles and to compare the data distribution fur the borehole method versus those for the scanline method.
This study was carried out to make fundamental data for structural safety test of pipe- houses. Experiment on the stress distribution of pipe- houses was conducted to find suitable structural analysis model by examination of end support conditions of pipe. Besides, the loading test and the pile driving test were done to find pull-out capacity and bearing capacity of pipe on the assumption that pipe is pile foundation. For single span pipe - house, the theoretical results assuming the end support condition of pipe is fixed under ground agreed closely with the experimental results of stress distribution. On the other hand for double span pipe -house, the end support conditions of pipe were fixed support when vertical load is applied, and hinged one when horizontal load is applied. The pull - out capacity and allowable bearing capacity of the pipe portion that was buried in the grounds that were soft soil of paddy field and medium or hard soils of dry field derived from experimental results.

The noise problem is one of the major problems associated with large cities and is considered important factor not only in maintenance but also in development of cities. Accordingly, the noise map is being increasingly used in city planning and design. However, the existing two-dimensional noise maps only show regional, planar distribution of noise. This study presented a method to build a data model for analyzing and visualizing noise levels at fine scale considering the vertical distribution of noise in a building. By expanding the 2D topology concept used in conventional GIS to 3D, it suggested a 3D GIS data model that makes 3D spatial queries, analyses and visualization possible and applied the proposed approach to building a 3D noise information system. By building and testing the system, the study showed different functionalities including 3D spatial queries and 3D visualization of noise levels varying temporally or according as the height of sound-proof walls. In each case, the population exposed to noise was quantitatively computed to illustrate the potential in the areas of city planning and design.
Mapping of salinity distribution in the reclaimed lands was attempted by using the electromagnetic inductance technique. Field study was conducted to monitor ground conductivity with an electromagnetic inductance, EM 38 (Geonics), and electrical conductivity of the saturated extract, ECe of the soils, at the Daeho reclaimed land. EM values of horizontal mode, EMh, and vertical mode, EMv, mode were recorded at the interval of $2m{\times}2m$ from the ground. Soil samples were taken through the profile down to 100cm for calibration. ECe of poor drained area of Daeho, were in the range of $19.50-91.50ds\;m^{-1}$, while ECe of well-drained area ranged from $1.10-34.40ds\;m^{-1}$. Multiple regression equations for the measured EMv, EMh, and ECe were highly significant. The EMh showed higher correlation with ECe than EMv. With the multiple equation, ECgM could be calculated. Correlation between ECe and ECgM was the highest ($r=0.753^{***}$), when EMI readings were taken on the ground. The relationships were highly significant below 30 cm height of measurement, With the EM38 measurement, the salinity distribution was effectively expressed for the experimental filed in Daeho reclaimed land.
The purpose of this paper is to determine whether the rate schedule of the Korean income tax system embodies the theoretically desirable distribution of the tax burden by income classes. The paper follows the approach of Young (1990) who has estimated the utility function and calculated the magnitude of sacrifice, i.e., the tax burden. The main point of the study is to estimate the utility function. The estimation results may differ if different data sets are used. Therefore, this paper employs the effective as well as the nominal tax rate schedule. The findings derived in this paper are 1) that the effective rate schedule is more appropriate in estimating the utility function; 2) that the middle class has born the relatively heavier burden over time; 3) that the current income tax credit scheme curtails the tax burden on the middle class while intensifying the tax burden of the lower and upper income classes; 4) that reducing the amount of deduction moves the distribution of tax burdens by income classes closer to the theoretically desirable model; 5) that the rate schedule of the Korean income tax system, particularly in 1991, did not conform to the desired model as did the tax systems of developed countries such as the United States, Italy, Japan, and Germany.

For the purpose of evaluating the prevalence of malocclusion and self-esteem in adolescents, 1,380 middle-school students in the Yangsan area were surveyed by oral examination and questionnaires and the obtained results were as follows: The distribution of 1st molar occlusion by Angle's classification was 69.0, 19.4, 10.6% for Class I, II and III respectively. In the horizontal relationship, the prevalence of normal overjet and crossbite was 86.9% and 5.6% respectively whereas larger and extremely larger overjet was found in 6.6% and 0.8%. In the vertical relationship of anterior teeth, normal, deep overbite and openbite was shown in 94.1%, 4.7%, and 1.2%. For the midline discrepancy, the distribution of groups with 0~1 mm, 2~4 mm and over 5 mm was 98.2%, 1.4%, and 0.4%. Crowding only in the maxilla was found in 9.6%, while that only in the mandible and in both arches was 14.1% and 24.1% respectively. Spacing only in the maxilla was seen in 3.0%, while that only in the mandible and in both arches was 2.4% and 1.7% respectively. Significant difference in self-esteem was revealed in female and malocclusion groups of crossbite and openbite(p < 0.05).

Considering that most sewage treatment facilities have a water head of less than 2.0 m and a constant flow rate, the development of a small hydro power generation device capable of maintaining stable power generation and efficiency is urgently needed. In this study, a numerical analysis using the CFD code was carried out to develop a drag force type vertical axis hydro turbine for the improvement of the production efficiency of small-scale hydro energy underlow flow velocity conditions. The blade pressure changes and internal flows were analyzed in the presence or absence of hydro turbine blade holes at a flow velocity of less than 2.0 m/s. The pressure distribution of the hydro turbine blades with holes was found to be about 5.1 % lower than that of the hydro turbine blades without holes. The analysis of the internal flow around the water tank and hydro turbine blade revealed that the flow velocity varied with the vector distribution and that the flow velocity of the hydro turbine blades with holes was 5.6 % less than that of the hydro turbine blades without holes. It is believed that forming a hole in the blade may be helpful for its structural safety.
