A novel method for simultaneously measuring the fluid velocity and the large particle velocity in a particle-containing fluid flow is developed in this study. In this method, the fluid velocity and the large particle velocity are measured by PIV and PTV, respectively. The PIV and PTV images are obtained from the same flow images. Since a PIV result represents the average displacement of all particles in an interrogation area, it will include an error caused by the relative displacement between the large particles and the fluid. In order to reduce the false influence of large particles on the PIV calculation, the mean brightness of small PIV particle images is substituted to the locations of large particles in the PIV images. The simulation results showed that the new method significantly reduces the PIV error caused by the large particles even at the case where the large particles occupy area fraction as large as $20\%$ of the full image.
We have carried out laboratory measurements of P-wave velocity and deformation strain during $CO_2$ injection into a porous sandstone sample, in dry and water-saturated conditions. The rock sample was cylindrical, with the axis normal to the bedding plane, and fluid injection was performed from one end. Using a piezoelectric transducer array system, we mapped fluid movement during injection of distilled water into dry sandstone, and of gaseous, liquid, and supercritical $CO_2$ into a water-saturated sample. The velocity changes caused by water injection ranged from $5.61\;to\;7.52\%$. The velocity changes caused by $CO_2$ injection are typically about $-6\%$, and about $-10\%$ for injection of supercritical $CO_2$, Such changes in velocity show that the seismic method may be useful in mapping $CO_2$ movement in the subsurface. Strain normal to the bedding plane was greater than strain parallel to the bedding plane during $CO_2$ injection; injection of supercritical $CO_2$ showed a particularly strong effect. Strain changes suggest the possibility of monitoring rock mass deformation by using borehole tiltmeters at geological sequestration sites. We also found differences associated with $CO_2$ phases in velocity and strain changes during injection.
In order to investigate the velocity structure of the southern part of the Korean peninsula, exploded seismic signals were recorded for 120 s along a 294-km WNW-ESE line and 150 s along a 335-km NNW-SSE line in 2002 and 2004, respectively. Velocity tomograms were derived from inverting P-wave and S-wave first arrival times. The raypaths indicate several midcrust interfaces. The shallowest one is at the approximate depth of $2{\sim}3\;km$ with refraction velocities of approximately Vp=6.0 and Vs=3.5 km/s, respectively. The second one of $15{\sim}17\;km$ depth has refraction velocities of approximately Vp=7.1 and Vs=3.7 km/s, respectively. The deepest significant interface varies in depth from 30.8 km to 36.1 km. The critically refracting Vp of $7.8{\sim}8.1\;km/s$ and Vs of $4.2{\sim}4.6\;km/s$ along this interface which may correspond to the Moho discontinuity. The velocity tomograms show (1) existence of a low-velocity zone centered at $6{\sim}7\;km$ depth under the Okchon fold belt and the Yeongnam massif, (2) extension of the Yeongdon fault down to greater than 10 km, and (3) existence of high-velocity materials under the Gyeongsan basin less than 4.2 km thick.
This paper represents the vector fields and three dimensional mean velocities in the X-Y plane of cone type swirl gas burner measured by using X-probe from the hot-wire anemometer system. This experiment is carried out at flowrate 350 and $450{\ell}/min$ respectively in the test section of subsonic wind tunnel. The vector plot shows that the maximum axial mean velocity component is focused in the narrow slits distributed radially on the edge of a cone type swirl burner, for that reason, there is some entrainment of ambient air in the outer region of the burner and the rotational flow can be shown in the inner region of the burner because mean velocity W is distributed about twice as large as mean velocity V due to inclined flow velocity ejecting from the swirl vanes of a cone type baffle plate of burner. Moreover, the mean velocities are largely distributed near the outer region of burner within $X/R{\fallingdotseq}1.5$, hence, the turbulent characteristics are anticipated to be distributed largely in the center of this region due to the large inclination of mean velocity and swirl effect.
Both ultrasonic velocity at 3 MHz and absorption coefficient for the frequency range of 0.2-2 MHz were measured in an aqueous solution of polyacrylamide for the concentration range of 0.5% to 2.5% by weight. Pulse echo overlap method was taken for measuring the ultrasonic velocity over the temperature range of 10-90℃ and the high-Q ultrasonic resonator method was used for the absorption coefficient at 30℃. The velocity exhibited a maximum value at approximately 70℃, 71℃, 72℃, 73℃ and 74℃ in 2.5%, 2.0%, 1.5%, 1.0%, and 0.5% solutions, respectively. The velocity increased with the concentration at a given temperature. The ultrasonic absorption (a/f²) at a given temperature increased linearly with the concentration for the concentration below 1.5%, but suddenly increased for the concentration above 1.5% concentration. The value of a/f² at 1MHz was entirely due to the classical Stoke's viscous effect. The ultrasonic relaxation in polyacrylamide aqueous solutions, which may be the result of structural fluctuations of polymer molecules such as the segmental motion of the polymer chains, was observed, and at 2.5%, the value of a/f² was found to suddenly increase as frequency decreased.
The stability of coal pulverizer in the 800 MW coal-fired plants is vital to maintain their performance. Thus, this study analyzed the uneven abrasion of the deflector and coal spillage due to the air velocity maldistribution in the vane wheel of a bowl-type pulverizer as it is a possible cause for problems of facility using pulverized coal. In addition, air flow in the underbowl of a bowl-type pulverizer was studied to check air velocity maldistribution in the vane wheel using numerical method. In an attempt to correct the maldistribution of air velocity, air flow of the modified duct vane was studied as enlarging the length of the duct vanes installed at the air inlet duct of the pulverizer and increasing the angle of inclination. It was found that modified duct vane make the velocity distribution at the vane wheel uniform. formed by the duct vanes installed at the air inlet duct of the pulverizer and swirling flow is the major factor in making the velocity distribution of vane wheel exit uniform. This can prevent the uneven abrasion of the deflector, which is one of the components inside the pulverizer and coal spillage.

This study set out to review the air current fluidity in exhaust common ducts by installing an inlet pipe at a leisure space in the PS(Pipe Shaft)room for the sake of wind power generation with kitchen and bathroom exhaust common ducts of all the equipment and air conditioning shafts in high-rise apartment. The air current functionality of kitchen and bathroom exhaust common ducts was reviewed by analyzing wind velocity changes according to changes to the area of exhaust common ducts through a simulation, changes to the wind velocity of the kitchen hood by applying an external inlet pipe, changes to the usage factor of exhaust common ducts, and changes to wind velocity by altering the form of the ventilator at the bottom of the old exhaust common duct. It was a basic study on the utilization of exhaust wind velocity in exhaust common ducts.

The flow is changed by the structure which goes across the river. The structure with debris causes high water level and overflow. The changed flow, which caused by pier and stream characteristics like velocity and slope, was analysed by 2D model. After rainfall, the influences of increased discharge were evaluated. Velocity was simulated in the channel by SMS (Surface water Modeling System) using RMA2, and high velocity values were found in the steep and narrow reach. Highest velocity value around piers was showed in the middle of space between two piers. The increased discharge due to rainfall increases velocity and changes flow contour considerably.

In the environment with high humidity causes negative influence on human's body and living condition. As the weather gets more humid, people's interest of dehumidifier for household arising recently. The cooling dehumidifier dehumidify the air by using refrigeration cycle technology which means it removes vapor by let the humid air pass through the cold surface. The amount dehumidified of refrigerating method dehumidifier affected by multiple factors. However, the refrigerating method dehumidifier for household in the market controls pass wind velocity technology to adjust the amount of dehumidification. As the pass wind velocity increases, the amount of wind increases hence the heat exchange amount increases accordingly. However, the amount of dehumidification decreases because the temperature difference between the air and vaporization decreases. Therefore, simply by increasing air velocity does not increase the amount of dehumidification. This research examined the effect of air velocity out of all variety of factors to the amount of dehumidification for refrigerating method dehumidifier.
Refraction tomography was developed to interpret subsurface velocity structure easily in topographic conditions. It was applied to synthetic refraction data to find the factors for optimization of applicability of refraction tomography such as configuration of profiling and its length, spacing of geophones and sources and topographic conditions. Also, low velocity layer near VSP hole could be detected by joint inversion with refraction and VSP data. Continuity of subsurface velocity structure in two different spread lines for area of house land development was good in case of applying our algorithm and velocity structure was classified quantitatively to evaluate rippability for engineering works.
