In situ Gelation of Monodisperse Alginate Hydrogel in Microfluidic Channel Based on Mass Transfer of Calcium Ions (미세 채널에서 칼슘이온 물질전달을 이용한 단분산성 알지네이트 하이드로젤 입자의 실시간 젤화)

  • A microfluidic method for the in situ production of monodispersed alginate hydrogels using biocompatible polymer gelation by crosslinker mass transfer is described. Gelation of the hydrogel was achieved in situ by the dispersed calcium ion in the microfluidic device. The capillary number (Ca) and the flow rate of the disperse phase which are important operating parameters mainly influenced the formation of three distinctive flow regions, such as dripping, jetting, and unstable dripping. Under the formation of dripping region, monodispersed alginate hydrogels having a narrow size distribution (C.V=2.71%) were produced in the microfluidic device and the size of the hydrogels, ranging from 30 to $60{\mu}m$, could be easily controlled by varying the flow rate, viscosity, and interfacial tension. This simple microfluidic method for the production of monodisperse alginate hydrogels shows strong potential for use in delivery systems of foods, cosmetics, inks, and drugs, and spherical alginate hydrogels which have biocompatibility will be applied to cell transplantation.

Quantitatation of Benzoic and Sorbic Acids in Some Processed Foods of Korea (일부 한국 가공식품의 벤조산과 소르빈산의 함량 조사)

  • Benzoic acid (BA) and sorbic acid (SA) are the preservatives most commonly used in food. Although BA and SA are generally safe, some previous studies have shown that consumption of excessive amounts of these food additives can be a health hazard. The aim of this study was to determine the amounts of BA and SA in processed foods in Korea. Different brands of fruit juice, yogurt, cheese, dried fruits, jam, and margarine were purchased at a local market in Daejeon, Korea. Samples were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using a UV detector. Chromatographic separation was achieved with a C18 column. Methanol acetate buffer (pH 4.4) at a 35:65 v/v ratio was used as the initial mobile phase to elute BA and SA. The detector wavelength was set at 254 nm. The average test results observed for BA concentrations in fruit juice, yogurt, cheese, dried fruits, jam, and margarine were $40.26{\pm}0.02$, $2.07{\pm}0.06$, $0.02{\pm}0.09$, $0.36{\pm}08$, $265.30{\pm}0.02$, and $27.34{\pm}0.08\;mg/kg$, respectively. Average concentrations of SA in these samples were $0.92{\pm}0.06$, $1.06{\pm}0.07$, $7.30{\pm}0.01$, $14.14{\pm}0.08$, $25.65{\pm}0.06$, and $4.81{\pm}0.07\;mg/kg$, respectively. Thus, the average levels of BA and SA in the studied food items were lower than the KFDA-permitted limits. Moreover, the estimated daily intake of both BA and SA by a typical consumer were below the maximum recommended daily values.

  • This paper proposes a programmable PLL (phase locked loop) based clock generator supporting a wide-range-frequency input and output for high performance and low power SoC with multiple clock frequencies domains. The propose system reduces the locking time and obtains a wide range operation frequency by using a dual-charge pumps scheme. For low power operation of a chip, the locking processing circuits of the proposed PLL doesn't be working in the standby mode but the locking data are retained by the DAC. Also, a tracking ADC is designed for the fast relocking operation after stand-by mode exit. The programmable output frequency selection's circuit are designed for supporting a optimized DFS operation according to job tasks. The proposed PLL-based clock system has a relock time range of $0.85{\mu}sec{\sim}1.3{\mu}sec$($24\~26$cycle) with 2.3V power supply, which is fabricated on $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS Process. At power-down mode, PLL power saves more than $95\%$ of locking mode. Also, the PLL using programmable divider has a wide locking range ($81MHz\~556MHz$) for various clock domains on a multiple IPs system.

  • This work proposes a 12b 60MS/s 0.18um CMOS Flash-SAR ADC for various systems such as wireless communications and portable video processing systems. The proposed Flash-SAR ADC alleviates the weakness of a conventional SAR ADC that the operation speed proportionally increases with a resolution by deciding upper 4bits first with a high-speed flash ADC before deciding lower 9bits with a low-power SAR ADC. The proposed ADC removes a sampling-time mismatch by using the C-R DAC in the SAR ADC as the combined sampling network instead of a T/H circuit which restricts a high speed operation. An interpolation technique implemented in the flash ADC halves the required number of pre-amplifiers, while a switched-bias power reduction scheme minimizes the power consumption of the flash ADC during the SAR operation. The TSPC based D-flip flop in the SAR logic for high-speed operation reduces the propagation delay by 55% and the required number of transistors by half compared to the conventional static D-flip flop. The prototype ADC in a 0.18um CMOS demonstrates a measured DNL and INL within 1.33LSB and 1.90LSB, with a maximum SNDR and SFDR of 58.27dB and 69.29dB at 60MS/s, respectively. The ADC occupies an active die area of $0.54mm^2$ and consumes 5.4mW at a 1.8V supply.

Ultrasonic relaxation associated with the complex formation of benzoic acid derivative and β-cyclodextrin (벤조산 유도체와 베타 사이클로덱스트린의 복합체 형성반응에 의한 초음파 완화)

  • The dynamic interactions between benzoic acid derivative ($pH{\approx}7.0$)(guest) and ${\beta}$-cyclodextrin (${\beta}$-CD)(host) were investigated in an aqueous solutions in terms of ultrasonic absorption in the frequency range 0.2 MHz ~ 50 MHz with emphasis on the low-frequency range below 1 MHz at $25^{\circ}C$. We show that the interaction of ${\beta}$-CD and benzoic acid derivative complies with a typical spectrum of a single relaxation process around a few MHz. The ultrasonic relaxation observed in these solutions was due to a perturbation of a chemical equilibrium related to a reaction of an inclusion complex formed by the host and guest. The rate constant ($k_b=7.48{\times}10^6M^{-1}s^{-1}$) and equilibrium constant ($K=68.6M^{-1}$) were determined from the concentration dependences of benzoic acid on the relaxation frequency. The standard volume change (${\Delta}V=10.6{\times}10^{-6}m^3mol^{-1}$) of the reaction was also computed from the maximum absorption per wavelength. It was found that the hydrophobicity of guest molecules played an important role in the formation of the inclusion complex.

  • In order to Process rapid fermented anchovy with low salt contents, processing condition of rapid fermented anchovy by proteolytic bacteria, and its chemical composition and quality stability during storage were examined. Culture was performed(pH 7.0, $40^{\circ}C$, 45strokes/min) for 15hrs after the addition of 1% of NaCl, 1% of sodium erythorbate and 20m1 of B. licheniformis p-5 cultures($3.2{\times}10^4cells/ml$) to 100g of raw anchovy, and then low salt fermented anchovy as final product was made by adding of several(3% of NaCl, 4% of KCI, 4% of ethyl alcohol(w/v), 0.5% of ginger, 0.5% of garlic powder) for stability and flavor enhancement. During 60days of storage, histamine contents was adequate in a food sanitation aspect, and microflora decreased sharply while volatile basic nitrogen increased slowly. Free amino acids are the major part in unique fermented anchovy taste. The volatile fatty acids is the most important component in the anchovy's flavor. From the results of experiments, it was supposed that rapid fermented anchovy processed with proteolytic bacteria was suitable.

Quality Changes of Fresh-cut Packaged Fuji Apples during Storage (최소가공 Fuji사과의 포장재 및 전처리 방법에 따른 저장 중 품질변화)

  • Fuji apples were sliced and dipped in distilled water, 1% (w/v) ascorbic acid and 1% (w/v) oxalic acid. After minimal processing, the slices were packaged with three films which have different gas transmission rate and stored in cold room$(0-2^{\circ}C)$. The visual quality, gas composition, pH, texture, soluble solids content and titratable acidity were determined. The most deteriorative effects on quality were produced by browning of flesh. Ascorbic acid inhibited the development of browning and extended storage life from 7 days of control to 14 days at $0-2^{\circ}C$. Minimally processed Fuji apple treated with ascorbic acid and P640 film showed exhausting of oxygen in the packaging after 14 days. It showed only a slight reduction of pH from 3.73 to 3.72. The visual quality, gas composition, pH, texture, soluble solids content, titratable acidity were slightly changed, indicating that higher quality was maintained during storage. Ascorbic acid inhibited the development of browning and extended storage life of fresh-cut Fuji apple.

Characteristics of Electrospun Ag Nanofibers for Transparent Electrodes (전기방사법으로 제조된 Ag 나노섬유의 투명전극 특성)

  • We fabricated transparent conductive electrodes with silver (Ag) nanofibers by electrospinning process. Ag nanofibers have high aspect ratio and fused junctions which result in low sheet resistance. Electrospinning is a fast and efficient process to fabricate continuous one-dimensional (1D) nanofibers. Ag/polymer ink were prepared in polymer matrix solution by a sol-gel method. Then, Ag/polymer nanofibers precursors are heated at $200{\sim}500^{\circ}C$ in air for 2 h to eliminate partially the polymers. The topographical features of the Ag nanofibers were characterized by FE-SEM, and the electrical property was analyzed through I-V measurement system. Finally, optical property was measured using UV/VIS spectroscopy. The transparent conductive electrodes with Ag nanofibers exhibited a sheet resistance (Rs) of $250{\Omega}/sq$ at a transparency (T) of 83%. Transparent conductive films, contain the Ag nanofibers as conductive materials, have good electrical, optical, and mechanical properties. Therefore, it is expected to be useful for the application of flexible display in the future.

Thermal Caracteristics of the Automobile Exhaust gas based Heat exchanger with various Exhaust gas Temperature and Mass flow rate (자동차 배기가스 유량 및 온도 변화에 따른 열전발전용 열교환기 발열량 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to numerically investigate the thermal characteristics of an automobile exhaust-based heat exchanger for automotive thermoelectric power generation with various exhaust gas mass flow rates and temperatures. The heat exchanger for automotive thermoelectric power generation has a square-type pin installed inside, so the maximum amount of heat can be transferred to the thermoelectric element from the heat energy coming from the automobile exhaust gas. The exhaust gas mass flow rate changed from 0.01, to 0.02, to 0.03 kg/s, and the exhaust gas temperature changed from 400, to 450, to 500, to 550, to $600^{\circ}C$, respectively. A numerical simulation was conducted by using the commercial program ANSYS CFX v17.0. Consequently, the exhaust gas pressure difference between the inlet and the outlet of the heat exchanger is determined according to the flow rate of the exhaust gas. When the mass flow rate of the exhaust gas increased, the pressure difference between the inlet and the outlet of the heat exchanger increased, but the exhaust gas pressure difference between the inlet of the heat exchanger and the outlet did not vary with the exhaust gas temperature. Therefore, in order to obtain the maximum surface temperature from the heat exchanger, the exhaust gas mass flow rate should be lower, and the exhaust gas temperature should be higher.

Evaluation of Stream Flow Data Observed in the Pyungchang River Basin Using the IHACRES Model (IHACRES 모형을 이용한 평창강 유역 내 관측 유량자료의 평가)

  • This study evaluated the runoff data collected at 12 stream gauge stations of the Chungjoo dam basin using the IHACRES model. Especially, the geomorphology-related parameters of the IHACRES model could be quantified base on the regionalization technique, which have also been applied many stream gauge stations of the Chungjoo dam basin. Summarizing the results is as follows. (1) The climate-related parameters of the IHACRES model c, $\tau_w{^0}$, and f are found to be estimated and used uniformly over the basin. (2) The geomorphology-related parameters of the IHACRES model $t_q,\;t_s,\;and\;v_s$ are found to be estimated by considering the geomorphological parameters like the basin area, channel length, channel slope, basin slope through the regionalization based on the regression analysis. (3) Using the climate-related parameters applied uniformly over the basin and the geomorphology-related parameters estimated based on the regionalization procedure for each stream gauge station, a total of 12 stream gauge stations have been evaluated with their stream flow measurements. As results, the Sanganmi and Youngwal 1 stream gauge stations have been found to make high quality flow data, but Youngwal, Baekokpo, and Panwoon stations low quality flow data. On the whole, 12 stream gauge stations considered show large differences with their data quality, so a plan for securing more consistent data quality should be prepared imminently.
