  • Prior to destructive testing, diagnostic tests were performed in ten high voltage motors. Diagnostic tests included polarization infer, ac current, dissipation factor$(tan{\delta})$ and partial discharge magnitude. The rewind of motet slater insulation at rated voltage is assessed by the results of these tests. After completing the diagnostic tests, the stator windings of motors were subjected to gradually increasing ac voltage, until the insulation punctured. No. 8 motor failed near rated voltage of 19.0 kV. The breakdown voltage of No. 4 motet was 7.0 kV which is lower that expected for good quality coils in 6.6 kV class motors. The failure was located in a line-end coil at the exit from the core slot. These two motors began operation in 1994. While testing No. 7 motor, flashover occurred between the stator winding and the stator frame at 15 kV. The relationship between the diagnostic test and the drop in insulation breakdown voltage was analyzed.

  • Objective: This study was designed to measure the surface roughness at the slot floor of various ceramic brackets. Methods: One kind of stainless steel bracket ($Succes^{(R)}$), two kinds of monocrystalline brackets (Inspire $Ice^{(R)}$, $Perfect^{(R)}$) and two kinds of polycrystalline brackets (Crystalline $V^{(R)}$, $Invu^{(R)}$) were examined. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) was used to measure the surface roughness of each bracket. Data acquisition and processing were performed using $SPIP^{TM}$. Results: The differences in values of Sa, Sq, and Sz in $Invu^{(R)}$ and Inspire $Ice^{(R)}$ were not statistically different from the control group $Succes^{(R)}$. The values of Sa, Sq, and Sz of $Perfect^{(R)}$ and Crystalline $V^{(R)}$ were greater than those of $Succes^{(R)}$. Differences of all the Sa, Sq, and Sz values between $Perfect^{(R)}$ and Crystalline $V^{(R)}$ were not statistically significant. Conclusions: It is concluded that the slot surfaces of $Succes^{(R)}$, Inspire $Ice^{(R)}$, and $Invu^{(R)}$ were smooth compared to those of Crystalline $V^{(R)}$ and $Perfect^{(R)}$.

  • This study was conducted to collect basic data about the effects of ventilation types on the interior environment of the enclosed farrowing-nursery pig house in Anseong, Icheon and Jeungpyong. Surveyed ventilation types in the enclosed farrowing-nursery pig house are classified in to 4 types. In V1 type, air enters through a planar slot inlet placed on the juncture of the entering wall and exit through the chimney fan outlet; in V2 type, air enters through a perforated ceiling inlet and exits chimney fan outlet(V2); in V3 type, air enters through a circular duct inlet and exit chimney fan outlet(V3); in V4 type, enters through a circular duct inlet and exits side wall exhaust fan outlet(V4). Temperature, relative humidity, air velocity and ammonia concentration($NH_3$) were measured in the interior of swine building in the summer. Interior temperature was not remarkably different in all ventilation types in this study. However, temperature of the V4 was somewhat lower than that of the other types. Air velocity of the V4 was higher and $NH_3$ concentration of the V4 was lower than those of other ventilation types. It is suggested that the V4 ventilation type be applicable in the enclosed farrowing-nursery pig house in Korea.

  • In this study, a windmill type ultrasonic motor operated by single-phase AC electric field was fabricated, and then revolution characteristics and 3-dimensional vibration mode of the ultrasonic motor were investigated. Brass metal was pressed with umbrella-type using metal mold, then slot of 4 kind was processed at various thickness. It was found that the revolution speed of the ultrasonic motor increased with decreasing the thickness of elastic body. The revolution speed of the ultrasonic motor increased with increasing the slots of elastic body. When the characteristics was measured, applied voltage was changed from $10V_{max}\; to\; 100V_{max}$. Then, revolution was began from $30V_{max}$, if voltage was applied over $90V_{max}$ revolution speed was saturated, and not increased. The maximum revolution speed was 510[rpm] when using elastic body with 6 slots and thickness of 0.15mm. And 3-dimensional displacement mode was rotated clockwise direction.

  • Relative retention times (RRTs) of RAH molecules in HPLC are trained and predicted intesting sets using a multiple linear regression (NLR) and an artificial neural network (ANN). The maindescriptors in QSRR are molecular connectivity ($^1X_v,\;^2X_v$), the length-to-breadth ratios (L/B), and molecular dipole moment(D). L/B which is related with slot model is a good descripter in ANN, but isn't in MLR. Varainces which show the accuracy of prediction times in testing sets are 0.0099, 0.0114 for ANN and MLR, respectively. It was shown that ANN can exceed the MLR in prediction accuracy.

  • We demonstrated a successful fabrication of 4" Gallium Nitride (GaN)/Diamond High Electron Mobility Transistors (HEMTs) incorporated with Inner Slot Via Hole process. We made in manufacturing technology of 4" GaN/Diamond HEMT wafers in a compound semiconductor foundry since reported [1]. Wafer thickness uniformity and wafer flatness of starting GaN/Diamond wafers have improved greatly, which contributed to improved processing yield. By optimizing Laser drilling techniques, we successfully demonstrated a through-substrate-via process, which is last hurdle in GaN/Diamond manufacturing technology. To fully exploit Diamond's superior thermal property for GaN HEMT devices, we include Aluminum Nitride (AlN) barrier in epitaxial layer structure, in addition to conventional Aluminum Gallium Nitride (AlGaN) barrier layer. The current collapse revealed very stable up to Vds = 90 V. The trapping behaviors were measured Emission Microscope (EMMI). The traps are located in interface between Silicon Nitride (SiN) passivation layer and GaN cap layer.

  • A scanning slot digital mammography system Luing a plastic scintillating fiber screen (SFS) is currently being developed To improve the x-ray interaction efficiency and absorption efficiency of an SFS, high Z elements can be added into the scintillating fiber core. In this paper, we investigated theoretically the zero spatial frequency detective quantum efficiency, DQE(0), and modulation transfer function, MTF(f), of three 2 cm thick SFSs made of polystyrene, polystyrene loaded with 5% by weight of lead, and polystyrene Loaded with 10% by weight of tin scintillating fibers. X-ray interaction efficiency, scintillating light intensity distributions and line spread functions were generated using Monte Carlo simulation. DQE(0) and MTF(f) were computed for x-ray energies ranging from 15 to 50 keV. Loading high Z elements into the SFS markedly increased the DQE(0). For x-ray energies used for mammovaphy, DQE(0) values of both high Z element loaded SFSs are about a factor of three higher than the DQE(0) of an Min-R screen. At mammographic x-ray energies, MTF(f) values of all three SFSs are Venter than 50% at 25 Ip/mm spatial frequency, and were found to be dominated by the 20 um individual scintillating fiber diameter used The results show that both hiP DQE(0) and spatial resolution can be achieved with the high Z element loaded SFSs, which make these SFSs attractive for use in a scanning slot detector for digital mammography.

  • In this paper, a cavity back slot antenna with a rotated rectangular patch is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of a ground plane with cavity structure, a microstrip feed line, and a rectangular patch with slot. With a dimension of $55mm{\times}40mm{\times}10mm$, the proposed antenna has the wide bandwidth due to the cavity structure. Measured 10 dB return loss bandwidth and fractional bandwidth of the proposed antenna is 5,030 MHz(3.02~8.05 GHz) and 90.9 % at the center frequency of 5.05 GHz. The proposed antenna is designed and simulated using ANSYS HFSS v.15.0.0. The designed antenna is fabricated and tested to validate its performances.
