Nitrogen-Dependent Regulation of Gluconic and/or Citric Acid Production by Aspergillus niger

  • Surface culture fermentation using Aspergillus niger was studied for gluconic and citric acid production at different C/N ratios. A culture of A. niger was found to produce either gluconic acid alone, a mixture of gluconic and citric acid, or citric acid alone depending on the level of nitrogen in the medium (4 to 18mM). Glucose oxidase from the mycelial mat was also analyzed at different levels of nitrogen in the media. By choosing the level of nitrogen in the medium at the start of fermentation, it is possible to produce either of the two acids as the dominant product or the two together as a mixture.

  • Al-15Cu-lMg alloys have been directionally solidified in 3mm diameter alumina tubes under the conditions of $760^{\circ}C$ of furnace temperature and 12 cm/hr of furnace moving velocity(V). By analyzing the evolution of the temperature profiles along the alloy length, the position of the solid/liquid interface, temperature gradient(G) and local growth velocity (R) were determined. These growth characteristics were compared for 6, 10, 14 cm length alloys. Steady state growth region was obtained in 15 cm length alloy, not in 6, 10 cm.

국산 자동화 장비(Gamma Pro)의 결과보고시간 단축에 대한 유용성 평가 (Evaluation of Reliability about Short TAT (Turn-Around Time) of Domestic Automation Equipment (Gamma Pro))

  • 목적: 각 검사실에서는 임상의 신속한 검사 결과 보고 요청에 부응하고 검사 결과의 신뢰도 및 효율성을 증가시키기 위해 자동화 장비를 많이 사용한다. 국산 자동화 장비는 기존 자동화 장비의 단점을 개선, 보완하여 폭넓은 수행능을 가진 국산 자동화 장비이다. 본 연구에서 국산 자동화 장비와 기존 자동화 장비와의 상관성 및 분석능력을 평가하여 검사실에서의 결과보고시간 단축에 대한 유용성과 신뢰성을 알아보고자 하였다. 대상 및 방법: 2009년 9월 삼성서울병원에서 갑상선 호르몬 검사(TT3, TSH, FT4)가 의뢰된 환자를 대상으로 저농도에서 고농도 검체 100개씩 국산 자동화 장비와 RIA-mat 280을 사용하여 상관성을 알아보았다. 국산 자동화 장비의 부분별 평가로 첫째, Tip부분은 정확도, 회수율, 검체 간 상호 오염도를 측정하였다. 둘째, Incubator부분은 회전수(RPM)와 회전축 원경(mm)에 따른 최적의 검사반응 조건을 알아보았다. 검체처리 속도를 분석하기 위해 특정기간의 검사결과 보고시간을 조사하였다. 결과: 국산 자동화 장비와 RIA-mat 280의 상관계수($R^2$)는 TT3 0.98, TSH 0.99, FT4 0.92로 좋은 상관관계를 보였다. Tip의 평가로 정밀도 CV 0.38 %(1번 Tip), CV 0.39 %(2번 Tip), 정확도 98.3 %(1번 Tip), 98.6 %(2번 Tip). 검체 간 상호 오염도는 0.01 %(1번 Tip), 0 %(2번 Tip)로 검체 간 상호 오염도가 거의 없었다. Incubator 조건에서 회전수(RPM)와 회전수 원경(mm) 500 RPM의 1.0 mm, 1.5 mm와 600 RPM의 1.0 mm, 1.5 mm 중 600 RPM의 1.0 mm가 최상의 조건임을 알 수 있었다. 기존의 자동화 장비에서 6회/일 시행되던 검사가 최대20회/일로 늘어남으로써 검체 접수에서 결과보고까지 소요시간이 평균 4.20시간에서 평균 2.19시간으로 약 2시간 단축되었다. 결론: 국산 자동화 장비(Gamma Pro) 사용으로 결과보고 시간이 평균 2.19시간으로, 약 2시간 단축되는 결과를 얻었다. 본 기기는 일정시간당 대량 검체 처리능력이 뛰어나고 실용성을 갖춘 효율적인 장비라고 여겨진다. 검사결과 보고 시간 단축으로 인해 응급환자의 신속한 진단과 외래환자의 진료대기시간 단축에 유용할 것이다.

Sand-Blasting법을 이용한 활물질/기판간 결합력 향상에 따른 AGM 연축전지의 성능 및 충방전 거동 (Performance and Charging-Discharging Behavior of AGM Lead Acid Battery according to the Improvement of Bonding between Active Material/Substrate using Sand-Blasting Method)

  • To cope with automobile exhaust gas regulations, ISG (Idling Stop & Go) and charging control systems are applied to HEVs (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) for the purpose of improving fuel economy. These systems require quick charge/discharge performance at high current. To satisfy this characteristic, improvement of the positive electrode plate is studied to improve the charge/discharge process and performance of AGM(Absorbent Glass Mat) lead-acid batteries applied to ISG automotive systems. The bonding between grid and A.M (Active Material) can be improved by applying the Sand-Blasting method to provide roughness to the surface of the positive grid. When the Sand-Blasting method is applied with conditions of ball speed 1,000 rpm and conveyor speed 5 M/min, ideal bonding is achieved between grid and A.M. The positive plate of each condition is applied to the AGM LAB (Absorbent Glass Mat Lead Acid Battery); then, the performance and ISG life characteristics are tested by the vehicle battery test method. In CCA, which evaluates the starting performance at -18 ℃ and 30 ℃ with high current, the advanced AGM LAB improves about 25 %. At 0 ℃ CA (Charge Acceptance), the initial charging current of the advanced AGM LAB increases about 25 %. Improving the bonding between the grid and A.M. by roughening the grid surface improves the flow of current and lowers the resistance, which is considered to have a significant effect on the high current charging/discharging area. In a Standard of Battery Association of Japan (SBA) S0101 test, after 300 A discharge, the voltage of the advanced AGM LAB with the Sand-Blasting method grid was 0.059 V higher than that of untreated grid. As the cycle progresses, the gap widens to 0.13 V at the point of 10,800 cycles. As the bonding between grid and A.M. increases through the Sand Blasting method, the slope of the discharge voltage declines gradually as the cycle progresses, showing excellent battery life characteristics. It is believed that system will exhibit excellent characteristics in the vehicle environment of the ISG system, in which charge/discharge occurs over a short time.

$In_2Se_3$$Cu_2Se$를 이용한 $CuInSe_2$박막제조 및 특성분석 (Fabrication and Characterization of $CuInSe_2$Thin Films from $In_2Se_3$ and$Cu_2Se$Precursors)

  • CdS/CuInSe$_2$태양전지의 광흡수층인 CuInSe$_2$박막을 In$_2$Se$_3$와 Cu$_2$Se 이원화합물을 precursor로 하여 진공증발법으로 제조하였고 특성을 분석하였다. 먼저 유리기판위에 0.5$\mu\textrm{m}$ 두께의 In$_2$Se$_3$를 susceptor온도를 변화시켜가면서 증착한 결과 40$0^{\circ}C$에서 가장 평탄하고 치밀한 박막이 형성되었다. 그 위에 Cu$_2$Se$_3$를 진공증발시켜 증착함으로써 in-situ로 CuInSe$_2$박막을 형성시키고 In$_2$Se$_3$를 추가로 증발시켜 CuInSe$_2$박막내에 존재하는 제 2상인 Cu$_2$Se를 제거시켰다. 이 경우 susceptor온도가 $700^{\circ}C$ 일때 미세구조가 가장 좋은 CuInSe$_2$박막이 형성되었으며 약 1.2$\mu\textrm{m}$ 두께에서 약 2$\mu\textrm{m}$의 결정립크기와 (112) 우선배향성을 가졌다. 추가 In$_2$Se$_3$양이 증가함에 따라 CuInSe$_2$박막의 조성편차보상으로 hole 농도가 감소하고 전기 비저항이 증가하였고, optical bandgap은 거의 일정한 값인 1.04eV의 값을 가졌다. Mo/유리기판 위에 증착한 CuInSe$_2$박막도 유리기판 위에 증착한 박막과 비슷한 미세구조를 가졌으며, 이 박막을 토대로 ZnO/CdS/CuInSe$_2$/Mo 구조를 갖는 태양전지 구현이 가능할 것으로 생각된다.

PDMS를 이용한 마이크로 구동기의 제작 및 평가 (Detection of Tool Failure by Wavelet Transform)

  • In this study, we propose and develop PDMS-based modular actuators. The microactuator which looks like a small insect uses thermal expansion power of the PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane; $sylgar^{(R)}$ 184 silicone elastomer). The PDMS-based microactuator provides a large displacement due to a high thermal expansion coefficient (approximately 310ppm). The microacruator with 1mm length $350{\mu}m$ width is optimized by using a numerical analysis. The shape of the PDMS actuatoris variously designed. They are placed at several positions to find the optimal position that provides a high transformation ratio. The PDMS-based microactuators are fabricated using a conventional micromaching technique. The fabricated microactuator is heated using a hot-plate. The actuator displacement is measured as a function of temperature from $27^{\circ}C$ to $300^{\circ}C$. The experimental results are compared to the simulation result. When heating temperature up to $300^{\circ}C$ is applied to the PDMS actuator, each V-groove-shaped joint is actuated $30{\mu}$ mat $300^{\circ}C$. Anotherdesign of the microactuator has a maximum displacement of about 656mm.

Reactive Sputtering으로 제조된 /SrBi_2Ta_2O_9$박막의 전기적 특성에 미치는 조성의 영향 (Effect of Composition on Electrical Properties of SBT Thin Films Deposited by Reactive Sputtering)

  • 비휘발성 메모리 소자에의 적용을 위한 SrBi2Ta2O9(SBT)박막이 고순도의 Sr, Bi, Ti 금속타겟을 사용하여 Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si 기판 위에 reactive sputtering 법에 의해 증착되었다. 조성의 영향을 평가하기 위하여 Bi 타겟에 인가되는 전원의 변화와 열처리에 따른 C-F(capacitance-frequency), P-E(polarization-electric field), I-V(current-voltage)등의 전기적 특성이 조사되었다. Bi의 양이 증가함에 따라 Bi layer 구조를 나타내는 (105)회절 피크가 증가하였고 $700^{\circ}C$, 산소분위기에서 1시간 동안 열처리후 Sr과 Bi가 심하게 휘발되었으며 박막의 미세구조는 다공질이 되었다. 이러한 이유로 열처리된 박막의 누설 전류 밀도는 증가하였다. 열처리된 시편의 조성은 거의 화학양론비를 이루었으며 4.5$\mu$C/$\textrm{cm}^2$의 Pr값을 갖는 강유전(ferroelectric)특성을 나타내었다.

Underwater image quality enhancement through Rayleigh-stretching and averaging image planes

  • Visibility in underwater images is usually poor because of the attenuation of light in the water that causes low contrast and color variation. In this paper, a new approach for underwater image quality improvement is presented. The proposed method aims to improve underwater image contrast, increase image details, and reduce noise by applying a new method of using contrast stretching to produce two different images with different contrasts. The proposed method integrates the modification of the image histogram in two main color models, RGB and HSV. The histograms of the color channel in the RGB color model are modified and remapped to follow the Rayleigh distribution within certain ranges. The image is then converted to the HSV color model, and the S and V components are modified within a certain limit. Qualitative and quantitative analyses indicate that the proposed method outperforms other state-of-the-art methods in terms of contrast, details, and noise reduction. The image color also shows much improvement.

LiMnBO3/C: A Potential Cathode Material for Lithium Batteries

  • $LiMnBO_3$ was successfully synthesized by a solid-state reaction method both with and without a carbon coating. Adipic acid was used as source material for the carbon coating. $LiMnBO_3$ was composed of many small polycrystalline particles with a size of about 50 - 70 nm, which showed a very even particle morphology and highly ordered crystalline particulates. Whereas the carbon coated $LiMnBO_3$ was well covered by mat-like, fine material consisting of amorphous carbon derived from the carbonization of adipic acid during the synthetic process. Carbon coated cell exhibited improved and stable discharge capacity profile over the untreated. Two cells delivered an initial discharge capacity of 111 and 58 mAh/g for $LiMnBO_3$/C and $LiMnBO_3$, respectively. Carbon coating on the surface of the $LiMnBO_3$ drastically improved discharge capacity due to the improved electric conductivity in the $LiMnBO_3$ material.

제지공장의 폐재인 Sludge로 부터 합성 Board의 제조 (The Manufacturing of Composition Board Using Waste Sludge Discharged from Manufacturing Factory)

  • Fiber mats were made at various density levels, using fibers from papermill sludge, ricestraw and various mixtures of the two. The paper mill sludges were collected from Moorim Papermill Co, and Jeonjoo Papermill Co. They were soaked in the liquid sulfur compounds, sulfur-tall oil and sulfurpolyester compounds, and made into fiber-reinforced, sulfur-based composition board. Under optimum conditions of fiber mat preparation and saturation with molten sulfur and modified sulfur, the Young's moduls of the manufactured tiber-reinforced composition board are superior to those of conventional wood-based composition boards. For example, the moduli of elasticity of the composition board made from papermill sludge, with a density of 0.40gm/$cm^3$, were greater than 1,400,000psi as compared 800,000psi for high density hardboard(1.28gm/$cm^3$). The modulus of rupture of the best reinforced composition board manufactured was over 9000psi, comparable to 6000psi of high density hardboard. The proposed Bryant and Lee's theory, "Modified Rule of Mixtures" can be applicable to the nonoriented and short fibrous composition board, when it was modified from "Rule of Mixtures" established by Paul an Jones, and supplemented by Smith and Cox's theory, In the Bryant and Lee's theory of $E_c=\frac{1}{3}aE_fV_f+bE_mV_m$, the constants "a" and "b" for the composition boards made from papermill sludge and the mixtures of ricestraw and the sludge were identified to be in the ranges of 3.29~3.54 and -2.47~-2.80 respectively.
