  • 1. The cows slaughtered at age of 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9 years old were 1.5, 1.5, 15.0, 62.5 and 4.4% respectively. 2. The cows slaughtered at 351-450kg and more than 500kg were 60 and 28% respectively. 3. Best, very good, good and bad cows in nutritional condition were 1.6, 25.8, 62.9, and 9.7% respectively. Among the six cows which were bad nutrition, the two were with severe endometritis, the three were normal in genital function and one was on 70 days of pregnancy. 4. Holstein cows(55.2%) showed higher reproductive failure than the Korean cows(33.3%). 5. The slaughted ratio of the Korean cattle and Holstein cows was 36 and 64% respectively. 6. Pregnant cows were about 16% among the slaughtered one. 7. Reproductive failures were composed of 46% in uterus, 32% in ovaries, 8% in udder, 6% in oviduct, 4% in cervix of uterine, 2% in vagina and 2% inmummified fetus. 8. Forty six percentages of uterine diseases were as follows; horn, 13%, body of uterus, 32% and ovary diseases were 32%, that is, 12% of ovary atrophy, 8% of ovarycyst and 6% of lutealcyst. 9. The cows of reproductive failures were commonly infected with 1.6 kinds of diseases. 10. According to classification, six type of ovaries were as follows; normal, 58%, ovary-cyst, 11%, luteum cyst, 4%, coexistence of follicles and corpus luteum, 16%, weak function of ovaries, 10% and ovarian atrophy, 1%. 11. Major axis, minor axis and thickness of right ovary were larger than those of left one both in Korean cattle and Holstein cows. Holstein cow had generally larger size of ovary than these of the Korean cattle.. 12. The left and right oviducts showed no difference in length, but Holstein had longer oviduct than Korean cow. 13. There was no difference in the length of uterine horn between right and left in the Korean cows, but the right was longer than the left in Holstein cows. 14. Holstein had longer horn and body of uterine than the Korean cows. 15. The weight of right ovary was heavier than that of left in both breeds, but there was no differences in weight of left ovary between two breeds and right ovary of Holstein breed was heavier than that of the Korean cow. 16. The weight of right oviduct and uterine born was heavier than that of the left, and Holstein had heavier oviducts and uterine horns than the Korean cows. 17. Holstein had heavier uterine body and cervix of uterine than the Korean cows. 18. The length of reproductive systems of Korean cow is as follows; Major and minor diameter and thickness ofovary are 3.6${\pm}$0.7, 2.3${\pm}$0.4 and 1.6${\pm}$1.4 cm in left and 3.7${\pm}$0.6, 2.5${\pm}$0.5 and 1.8${\pm}$0.5 cm in right. • To estimate the incidence of uterine cervix cancer among Korean women, we have conducted a study using the claim data on the beneficiaries of Korea Medical Insurance Corporation (KMIC). All medical records of the potential cases with diagnosis of ICD-9 180, 181, 182, 199, 219, 233 in the claims sent by medical care institutions in the whole country to the KMIC from January 1988 to December 1989, were abstracted and Gynecology specialist reviewed the records to identify the new cases of uterine cervix cancer among the potential cases during the corresponding period. Using these data, the incidence of uterine cervix cancer among Korean women was estimated as of July 1, 1988 to June 30, 1989. The crude rate was estimated to be 17.34(95% CI: $16.76\sim17.92$) per 100,000 and the cumulative rates for the ages $0\sim64\;and\;0\sim74$ were 1.7% and 2.2%, respectively. The age-adjusted rate for the world population was 19.93 per 100,000 which was higher than those of other Asian countries including China and Japan in $1983\sim1987$. The truncated rate for ages $35\sim64$ was 52.05 per 100,000 which was one of the highest in the world. With increasing age, the incidence rate increased to 78.11 per 100,000 in women aged $55\sim59$ years, then it decreased in the older groups. This finding suggests that detecting rate of uterine cervix cancer may decrease in women aged 60 years or older due to inadequate medical care seeking behavior. In the geographical area, the SIR of Jeju province was significantly low but it might be due to statistical unstability by small case numbers.

  • The prevalence of Epstein-Barr virus(EBV) in the uterine cervix was investigated to define the possible etiologic role in cervical carcinogenesis. The viral genotyping and LMP-1 30bp deletion were also stooled. The materials included 169 uterine cervical swabs(152 within normal limits, 12 atypical squamous cells of uncertain significance, 3 low grade intraepithelial lesions, and 2 high grade squamous intraepithelial lesion) and 104 uterine cervical tissues obtained from hysterectomy specimens(32 carcinoma in situ, 9 microinvasive squamous cell carcinomas, 37 invasive squamous cell carcinomas, 7 adenocarcinomas, 7 adenosquamous carcinomas, and 12 cervicitis). EBV detected by PCR for EBNA-1 was positive in 52(56.5%) of 92 invasive and noninvasive cervical carcinomas, and 80(48.8%) of 164 inflammatory or normal cervices. The viruses detected in carcinomas were all type A, and LMP-1 30bp deletion form was more frequent in premalignant and malignant cervical lesions than in nonneoplastic cervices. From the above results, it may be concluded that EBV is one of common viruses detected in uterine cervix of Korean women, and type A virus and LMP-1 30bp deletion form may have a role in cervical carcinogenesis.

  • Various methods are available for determination of exposure time in intracavitary radiotherapy of the carcinoma of the uterine cervix. To determine the accuracy of dose calculation with isodose curve for TAO applicator, comparison with results calculated by computer for radiotherapy treatment Planning was done in 24 procedures done in 12 consecutive patients with the carcinoma of the uterine cervix from May to December, 1983. The results are as follows: 1. The average dose rate Per hour of Point A was 87.70 rad, being 89.91 rad ana 85.49 rad in left and right, respectively. 2. The average percentage of dose rate of point A calculated by isodose curve method over that by computer was $101.28\%$ and the difference was less than $5\%$ in 17 Procedures and over $10\%$ in only 3 procedures. 3. The average percentage in case of point B was $108.67\%$. In conclusion, in most cases the difference was less than 200 rad for point A and less than 100 rad for point B during 2 courses of intracavitary radiotherapy. And so the dose rate calculation with isodose curve for TAO applicator is comparatively accurate.

  • Iliopelvic lymphoscintigraphy was performed to visualize the changes of the lymphatic system using Technetium-99m antimony sulfide colloid in carcinoma of uterine cervix. There were no differences between various indices and clinical stages, but comparison with computed tomographic and postoperative findings, there was meaningful difference in index of decrease and increase, respectively. And lymphoscintigraphy showed by pass way of lymphatic channel in 42 cases (16%) and this suggested the presence of normal shunts of lymphatic channels. Iliopelvic lymphoscintigraphy may be useful for evaluation of lymphatic system in carcinoma of uterine cervix, expecially for screening method.

  • Malakoplakia is an uncommon chronic granulomatous inflammation that usually involves the urinary and gastrointestinal tracts, but rarely affects the female genital tract. We experienced a case of malakoplakia in a cervicovaginal smear in a 54-year-old woman. Colposcopic examination showed a friable, easily bleeding tissue in the uterine cervix and the vaginal fornix. The cervicovaginal smear consisted of numerous isolated histiocytes, polymorphonuclear leukocytes, lymphocytes, and plasma cells. The histiocytes had an abundant, granular, and degenerated cytoplasm with inflammatory cell debris. Michaelis-Gutmann bodies were readily identified.

  • Forty one patients with para-aortic node metastases from carcinoma of the uterine cervix treated with radiotherapy at Department of Radiation Oncology, Yonsei University, College of Medicine from January 1982 to December 1987 were retrospectively analyzed. Eleven patients were diagnosed at the time of diagnosis of carcinoma of the cervix (early diagnosis) and 30 patients were diagnosed during follow up period after definitive radiotherapy of primary site (late diagnosis). The most important factors affecting the survival in this study were time of diagnosis and dose of irradiation. Overall 5 year actuarial survival rate of 41 patients was $25.7\%$. Five year survival rate for early diagnosis was $60.3\%$, but late diagnosis was $16.9\%$. And survival rate for high dose (over 4000 cGy) radiation group and low dose radiation group were $42.2\%\;and\;8.9\%$ respectively The most leading cause of death was para-aortic node failure, so early diagnosis and maximum palliation with full dose radiotherapy (over 4000 cGy) is necessary to improve the survival and the quality of life.

  • Background: Generally, it is difficult to differentiate uterine malignant mixed M$\ddot{u}$ llerian tumor(MMMT) from endometrial carcinom in radiological and clinical aspects. Our purpose is to investigate MR findings that distinguishes MMMT from endometrial carcinoma. Materials and Methods: We retrogradely evaluated the magnetic resonance imaging findings of pathologically proven 5 cases of malignant mixed M$\ddot{u}$llerian tumor(MMMT) and 14 endometrial carcinomas to know the differential points of these two tumors originating in the endometrial cavity. The size of the mass, presence or absence of myometrial or uterine cervical invasion, growth pattern of the mass, signal intensity and degree and pattern of contrast enhancement were analyzed and compared. Results: The length of the long axis of the MMMT was 1.5-9.0cm(average, 5.7cm) but that of the endometrial carcinoma was 0.5-6.0cm(average, 2.5cm). Invasion of uterine cervix which was found in 3 MMMT cases, dilated the endometrial cavity and the lumen of the uterine cervix and showed the pattern of growing into the external os. Invasion of uterine cervix was found in only one case of endometrial carcinoma. The presence or absence of myometrial invasion, the signal intensity and homogeneity on T1- and T2-weighted images, and the degree and patterns of contrast enhancement showed no significant difference. Conclusion: Any specific finding to differentiate MMMT from endometrial carcinoma was not ascertained. However, MMMT can be suspected if the size of the endometrial mass is greater than 5cm and if the mass dilates the enocervical canal and invades the uterine cervix.

  • This study was conducted to determine the optimum time and the insemination site of frozen in Cheju native cows, and 660 cows first service inseminated with rectovaginal methods by 3 skillful technicians as 3 districts near Cheju City and Sogwipo City areas obtained the following results. Optimum time for insemination was 16-20 hours after the onset of estrus and 80.6% of 67 conceived to first insemination. In the rectovaginal technique used widely at present conception rate for the palpation of ovaries showed 6.6% (index) higher than that of non-palpation. Conception rate of the insemination site; the intra-uterine horn, intra-uterus, just inside the cervix and depositing in mid-cervix were 62.5, 78.4, 74.6, and 80.9% respectively, however, there was no difference in conception rate between cervical and uterine deposition of forzon semen except for the intra-uterine horn.
