  • Recently as the user experience's importance has been emphasized, there has been many tries of various research methodology in order to understand the user. Specially, as the political investigation method's user understanding method based on the statistical analysis so far has encountered a limit, there has been a continuous tendency to try to introduce a humanitarian or cultural anthropological methodology. As part of this effort, there has been many tries of various approach methods of the Ethnography which is the cultural anthropological typical research methodology, but among those the Diary Study Method is mentioned as one of the effective methodologies. Therefore this thesis applies the Diary Study Method to the notebook PC bundle SW's attitude research and tries a deep rooted research about the user attitude. Also centered to the project of understanding the notebook PC bundle SW's user receptivity. it shows a specific example of the Diary Study applied to the user understanding. Through this process, we will examine the summary about the Ethnography research method, and will discuss an effective research methodology by through the process of analyzing and deducting the user inclination by applying and designing the Diary Study to the project. That is to say, it was progressed by actually applying the research methodology through a specific case, with the purpose of breaking away from the textbook discussion and progress with an application aspect discussion. Through the current research, we will verify an active user-inclined process about the user's notebook PC SW, and it is expected to be useful in establishing a SW UX strategy and distribution related to the bundle software.

  • This paper presents a method for generating an autonomous activity-based diary in the environment including a personal computer (PC). In order to record a user's various tasks in front of a PC, we consider the contextual information such as current time, opened programs, and user interactions. As one modality for the user interaction, a motion sensor was applied to recognize a user's hand gestures in case that the activity is conducted without interaction between the user and the PC. Moreover, we propose a temporal clustering method to recapitulate the sequential and meaningful activity in the stream of extracted PC usage logs. By combining those two processes, we summarize the user activities in the PC environment.

  • The aim of this study is to find out the user's needs of a 3D hand gesture interface in the smart home environment. To find out the users' needs, we investigated which object the users want to use with a 3D hand gesture interface and why they want to use a 3D hand gesture interface. 3D hand gesture interfaces are studied to be applied to various devices in the smart environment. 3D hand gesture interfaces enable the users to control the smart environment with natural and intuitive hand gestures. With these advantages, finding out the user's needs of a 3D hand gesture interface would improve the user experience of a product. This study was conducted using a diary method to find out the user's needs with 20 participants. They wrote the needs of a 3D hand gesture interface during one week filling in the forms of a diary. The form of the diary is comprised of who, when, where, what and how to use a 3D hand gesture interface with each consisting of a usefulness score. A total of 322 data (209 normal data and 113 error data) were collected from users. There were some common objects which the users wanted to control with a 3D hand gesture interface and reasons why they want to use a 3D hand gesture interface. Among them, the users wanted to use a 3D hand gesture interface mostly to control the light, and to use a 3D hand gesture interface mostly to overcome hand restrictions. The results of this study would help develop effective and efficient studies of a 3D hand gesture interface giving valuable insights for the researchers and designers. In addition, this could be used for creating guidelines for 3D hand gesture interfaces.

  • A new cultivation diary system based on environment sensor data and Web 2.0 with Flex is suggested, to improve the previous system using the subjective data of cultivators. The proposed system is designed by applying an object-oriented model called mini-architecture, in order to enhance the reliability of software as well as promote stability to overall system design. The environment sensor data such as temperature and humidity are used to develop the new reliable diary. Also, an active interface based on Web 2.0 and Android as the user GUI are implemented to maximize the convenience while recording the cultivation diary. The result of the performance evaluation shows that the data from sensors has 99.1% of correlation with that of analogue.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine to what extent the context in which people interact with online information affects people's credibility perceptions. In this study, credibility assessment is defined as perceptions of credibility relying on individuals' expertise and knowledge. Context has been characterized with respect to three aspects: Context as user goals and intentions, context as topicality of information, and context as information activities. The data were collected from two empirical studies. Study 1 was a diary study in which 333 residents in Michigan, U.S.A. submitted 2,471 diary entries to report their trust perceptions associated with ten different user goals and nine different intentions. Study 2 was a lab-based study in which 64 subjects participated in performing four search tasks in two different information activity conditions - information search or content creation. There are three major findings of this study: (1) Score-based trust perceptions provided limited views of people's credibility perceptions because respondents tended to score trust ratings consistently high across various user goals and intentions; (2) The topicality of information mattered more when study subjects assessed the credibility of user generated content (UGC) than with traditional media content (TMC); (3) Subjects of this study exerted more effort into making credibility judgments when they engaged in searching activities than in content creation. These findings indicate that credibility assessment can or should be seen as a process-oriented notion incorporating various information use contexts beyond simple rating-based evaluation. The theoretical contributions for information scientists and practical implications for web designers are also discussed.

  • As public data opened its doors in line with the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, agricultural public data also increased. Currently, the majority of farmers are writing farming diaries due to eco-friendly certification and basic public interest direct payment projects. However, it is a difficult task for busy farmhouses in the aging agricultural community to write farming diaries. Therefore, there have been cases where farming diaries have been filled out on behalf of the farmhouses. However, one may get disadvantaged in terms of receiving eco-friendly certification and public interest direct payment projects. In succession, this paper proposes a system to conveniently write farming diaries by checking the farming diary data stored in the server via categories of crops and dates and finding farming diary public data suitable for the user to automatically fill out the diary.

  • This research aims to understand the specific aspects of the utilization of the pavilion by a group of governors in the mobile office system of the early Joseon Dynasty through two diaries written in the 16th century. Miam Diary by Yu Hee-chun, a governor of Jeolla Province, and Jaeyeongnam Diary by Hwang Sa-woo, a chief aide of Gyeongsang Province, are important historical materials that reveal the utilization patterns of the pavilion by the governor, who was the decision maker and main user of governmental pavilions. As a result of analyzing the two diaries, the utilization of governmental pavilions was concentrated in the hot summer season, May to July, which is closely related to the perception of temperature and humidity. While pavilions are mostly used as office and banquet places, some notable usage patterns have been identified. When there were several governmental pavilions in a town, the order of appreciation was determined by considering the location and scenery, and the pavilions were also used as a place to encourage learning as governors taught Confucian scholars well. Governmental pavilions functioned as a device to visualize hierarchy through seating and accommodation arrangements. The authors of the diaries left comments on the famous pavilions and sometimes went to see the pavilions after asking for permission from the superior. This research is meaningful in that it reconstructed the relationship network and phases of the times of governmental pavilions scattered across the country through institutions and daily life.
