  • The purpose of this study is to grasp the characteristics of user's response to perceived safety and visual preferences for outdoor green spaces by the types of campus layouts. This research was investigated by color slide ratings and questionnaire survey to the students who are majoring in Landscape architecture in three universities locating at Taegu area. Two research sites have similarities in many ways but have differences in campus land form and design type such as 'Closed' and 'Open' types. Major results were summarised as follows ; 1. As a result of the slide test, the high degree of visual preference was shown in the campus that is 'Closed' type. However the degree of perceived safety was lower than that of in Youngnam Univ. campus. 2. According to the result of the comparative analysis between user's perceived safety and visual preferences in each campus, the degree of perceived safety at 'Closed' type was lower than that of 'Open' type, but the degree of visual satisfactioni was higher at 'Closed' type. 3. The factors affecting visual preference in campus were shown as density of wood, land form, and diverse type of the spaces. On the other hand, the factors affecting perceived safety were 'enclosed space by wood' at the day time, and 'the condition of lighting' at night. 4. Regarding gender differences in sensation of each space variables, female users showed higher satisfactio on the scenic beauty. 5. Regression analysis showed that general satisfation was determined by the variables such as 'arrangement', familiarity', 'cleanness', and 'closed feeling', in Kyungbook Univ. And in Youngnam Univ. , the variables were 'texture', 'perceived beauty', 'cleanness', and 'complexity' respectively. 6. In conclusion, campus users wanted the outdoor spaces that have various land form and somewhat 'open-closed' mixture type, which has a good 'Edge Effect' to satisfy both aspects in safety and visual preferneces.

  • This paper investigates the achievable data rate for non-orthogonal multiple access(NOMA) with correlated information sources(CIS), under the binary phase shift keying(BPSK) modulation, in contrast to most of the existing NOMA designs using continuous Gaussian input modulations. First, the closed-form expression for the achievable data rate of NOMA with CIS and BPSK is derived, for both users. Then it is shown by numerical results that for the stronger channel user, the achievable data rate of CIS reduces, compared with that of independent information sources( IIS). We also demonstrate that for the weaker channel user, the achievable data rate of CIS increases, compared with that of IIS. In addition, the intensive analyses of the probability density function(PDF) of the observation and the inter-user interferennce(IUI) are provided to verify our theoretical results.

  • Polyurethane Foam(PUF), a outstanding thermal insulation material, is used for various structures as being composed with other materials. These days, PUF composed with glass fiber, Reinforced PUF(R-PUF), is used for a insulation system of LNG Carrier and performs function of not only the thermal insulation but also a structural member for compressive loads like a sloshing load. As PUF is a porous material made by mixing and foaming, mechanical properties depend on volume fraction of voids which is a dominant parameter on density. Thus, In this study, density is considered as the effect parameter on mechanical properties of Polyurethane Foam, and mechanical behavior for compression of the material is described by using modified Gurson damage model.

  • This study was conducted to investigate avifauna and user's effect on the avifauna in Bukhan Mountain district of Bukhan Mountain National Park. Avifauna were investigated bimonthly from April to October 1987 over four districts which were main trail and sub-trail in each valley and ridge-midslope region by line transect methods. The observed birds in Bukhan Mountain districts was 34 species and 753 individuals and these consist of 19 species for residents. 11 species for summer visitor. 2 species for passage migrant and 2 species for winter visitor. The dominant species were Parus major (22.7%), Paradoxornis webbina(10%), Parus palustris (10.8%), Pica pica (10.0%) in order. No. of species and species diversities was higher in valley region than in ridge-midslope region. No. of species, individuals and species diversities were lower in main trail of high user's density than in sub-trail. Especially avifauna in main trail was severely decreased in August in valley region in which users were concentrated. But there was no change in similarity indices according to user's intensities. Therefore avifauna protection policy such as restoration and rehabilitation of edge species along trail, user's control in valley region during breeding periods, etc., shall be made for Bukhan Mountain National Park.

  • Purpose : Appropriate use of antimicrobials is an essential factor to treat infectious diseases and prevent acquisition of antimicrobial resistant pathogens. This study was undertaken to search that application of computerized management program for restriction of antimicrobials use in a hospital is helpful to decrease antimicrobial use density. Methods : Antibiotics utilization committee decided to restrict the use of 16 antimicrobials(14 expensive drugs having fear of drug resistance by pathogens and additional two drugs with inappropriate using tendency). Retrospective evaluation of antimicrobial user numbers between May and July of 2004 and 2005(study group) was conducted to compare with previous use density during same period of 2002 and 2003(control group). Results : Inpatients number of control group($823.5{\pm}37.1$ persons) was more than study group($809.2{\pm}39.3$ persons, P<0.001), but, outpatients number and hospitalized duration were equal in two groups. Antimicrobial user number/100 inpatients per day of glycopeptides and antifungal agents was equal in two groups, and study group was significantly higher density than control group in the use of carbapenems, piperacillin-tazobactam and quinolones(P<0.001). But study group was significantly lower density than control group in the use of drugs with inappropriately using tendency and expensive cephalosporins having broad antimicrobial spectrum(P<0.001). Conclusion : Application of computerized management program for restriction of antimicrobials use in a hospital is effective to decrease the use density of antimicrobials with inappropriately using tendency, but it is an insufficient measures for the restricted use of other antimicrobials on the whole.

  • This study was conducted to develop software which provides automatic site-specific field data acquisition, data processing, data mapping and management for precision agriculture. The developed software supports acquisition and processing of both digital and analog data streams. The architecture was object-oriented and each component in the architecture was developed as a separate class. In precision agriculture research, the laborious task of manual ground-truth data collection will be avoided using the developed software. In addition, gathering high-density data eliminates the need for interpolation of values for un-sampled areas. This software shows good potential for expansion and compatibility for variable-rate-application (VRA). The FIM (Field Information Management) computer program provides the user with an easy-to-follow process for field information management for precision agriculture.

  • Pulse laser welding of AISI 304 stainless steel plate was simulated to find optimal welding conditions by using commercial finite element code MARC. Due to geometric symmetry, a half model of AISI 304 stainless steel plate was considered and user subroutines were applied to boundary condition for the heat transfer. Material properties such as conductivity, specific heat, mass density and latent heat were given as a function of temperature. A moving heat source was designed on the basis of experimental data. As a result, Nd:YAG laser welding for AISI 304 stainless steel was successfully simulated and it should be useful to determine optimal welding condition.

  • This paper reviews three commercial softwares for wind climate data analysis in wind resource assessment; WAsP/Observed Wind Climate, WindRose and Windographer. Windographer is evaluated as the best software because of its variety of input data format, analysis functions, easiness of user interface, etc. For a quantitative understanding of uncertainty depending on software selection, a benchmark is carried out with the met-mast observation dataset at the Gimnyeong Wind Turbine Performance Test Site. It is found that Weibull parameter calculation and air density correction have a dependency on the software so that such uncertainty should be considered when an analysis software is selected. It is confirmed that annual energy production calculated by WAsP using a statistical table of frequency of occurrence may have some error compared to a time-series calculation method used by the other softwares.

  • In this work, first, a multiuser detection (MUD) algorithm based on component-level soft interference cancellation and linear minimum mean square error (CLSIC-LMMSE) is proposed, which can enhance the bit error ratio (BER) performance of the traditional SIC-LMMSE-based MUD by mitigating error propagation. Second, for non-binary low density parity check (NB-LDPC) coded high-order modulation systems, when the proposed algorithm is integrated with partial mapping, the receiver with iterative detection and decoding (IDD) achieves not only better BER performance but also significantly computational complexity reduction over the traditional SIC-LMMSE-based IDD scheme. Extrinsic information transfer chart (EXIT) analysis and numerical simulations are both used to support the conclusions.
