Transforming an Entity - Relationship Model into an Object - Oriented Database Model Depending on the Role of Relationship (관계 역할에 따른 개체 - 관계 모델의 객체지향 데이타베이스 모델로 변환)

  • The Entity-Relationship (E-R) model is widely used not only to increase understanding between user and designer, but also to model the relationship of real world data appropriately when designing database system in many application areas. It should be then transformed into an Object-Oriented database model which gives good merits to represent and manipulate data efficiently. Therefore, a method of transforming an E-R model into an Object-Oriented database model should be studied, but without losing any semantics of concept for the E-R model. This paper not only deals with transformation rules taking as input the elements of E-R model and delivering the elements of an Object-Oriented database model, but also improves the concept of generalization and aggregation inheritance. The paper also presents a method of transformation of relationship depending on these rules. The proposed method that obtains Object-Oriented database schema from an E-R model with preserving the properties of the E-R model is shown with examples. The method presented is able to be used to the logical database design.

  • This paper describes the iTABLE tabletop tiled display system which is designed for displaying high-resolution scientific visualization. Unlike other tabletop systems that typically use a projection-based single display, iTABLE system is suitable for visualizing and sharing high-resolution data, and it is capable of facilitating group interaction with interactive data visualizations on a table and distributed collaborative visualizations with other tiled displays. First, it surveys prior works on tabletop and tiled display systems as well as scientific visualization, and it describes the design and implementation of iTABLE system, and middleware and an infrared camera-based tangible user interface designed for iTABLE system. It will then discuss some high-resolution scientific visualization applications developed for iTABLE followed by conclusions and future research directions.

  • Spatiotemporal databases support methods of recording and querying for spatiotemporal data to user by offering both spatial management and historical information on various types of objects in the real world. We can answer to the following query in real world: 'What is the average of volume of pesticide sprayed for cach farm land from April to August on 2001, within some query window' Such aggregation queries have both temporal and spatial constraint. However, previous works for aggregation are attached only to temporal aggregation or spatial aggregation. So they have problems that are difficult to apply for spatiotemporal data directly which have both spatial and temporal constraint. Therefore, in this paper, we propose spatiotemporal aggregate functions for analysis of spatiotemporal data which have spatiotemporal characteristic, such as stCOUNT, stSUM, stAVG, stMAX, stMIN. We also show that our proposal resulted in the convenience and improvement of query in application systems, and facility of analysis on spatiotemporal data which the previous temporal or spatial aggregate functions are not able to analyze, by applying to the estate management system. Then, we show the validity of our algorithm performance through the evaluation of spatiotemporal aggregate functions.

Design of Improved UI of Automatic Parking Management System using License Plate Recognition (번호판 인식을 통한 자동 주차관리 시스템의 개선된 UI 설계)

  • Recently, due to advances in both imaging technology and ICT, various types of image processing services became available and the application services of these two technologies are diversifying. Recognition of vehicle license plates is used in places where vehicle information is needed such as in parking management. However, existing systems have economic disadvantages like issuing parking tickets and attaching unnecessary equipment. In order to solve these problems, we designed and implemented automatic parking management system through recognition of vehicle license plates by using emguCV that is based on OpenCV. Additionally, we designed improved UI to handle the entire parking management situation which include information such as details of each parking vehicle, parking time and remaining parking spaces without screen movement. This improved UI is implemented with the use of WPF which is the latest technology in user program development. The emguCV used in this paper showed the most optimized performance in Intel based environment. With it, we obtained the result of within 0.5 seconds of recognition processing time and over 90% of recognition rate. Through improved UI, the manager could both simply and intuitively manage the entire system.

  • 많은 사람들이 자동차를 교통수단으로 이용함에 따라서 다양한 자동차 액세서리 및 관심을 가지게 되면서, 자동차에서 다양한 여가 활용을 즐길 수 있게 되었다. 그와 함께 스마트폰 보급이 활성화가 되게 되면서 음악을 스마트폰으로 이용하여 들으면서 차에서도 많이들 활용하게 되었다. 하지만, 이러한 스마트폰 사용을 하게 됨으로 인해서 자동차 안에서 스마트폰을 사용하여 사고가 일어나는 빈도가 점점 많아지게 되었다. 그로 인해서 운전자들이 안심하고 사용할 수 있는 어플리케이션 개발이 필요로 하게 되었다. 현재 나와 있는 어플리케이션 중에 Bugs Driver라는 음악 재생 어플리케이션이 있지만, 이 어플리케이션은 차량 운전자를 위한 특별한 기능을 가지고 있지는 않고, 기존 음악 어플리케이션에서 기능을 축소한 음악 어플리케이션이다. 또한, 직관적이지 않은 UI(User Interface)를 가지고 있으며, 속도 또한 충분히 빠르지 않아 운전자가 이용하기에 적합한 어플리케이션이 아니다. 이에 본 연구에서는, 차량 안에서도 안전하고 편리하게 사용할 수 있는 음악 어플리케이션을 개발하였다. 이 어플리케이션은 움직임을 최소화 할 수 있는 UI 와 모션인식을 이용한 어플리케이션 조작, 일정 속도 이상으로 주행 시 어플리케이션을 조작하지 못하도록 하는 기능을 가지고 있다. 음악 관련 정보는 (주)네오위즈의 벅스 어플리케이션 API 를 이용하였고, 모션인식은 OPENCV를 이용하여 구현 하였다.

  • Since mid-1990s, demands for programmer have been decreasing, and the experts of planning IT strategy and solving overall management issues with IT have been increasingly needed. IS experts would have many different types of job as time passes, and they need variety of job competencies to meet their career paths. The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential careers to suit MIS major and the needed skills in that field to develop MIS Curriculum. We asked to the personnel working in the IS organization and user departments to evaluate the current MIS curriculum of 4 year colleges in Korea and to let us know what jobs are the most important for them, what the core job competencies for them are. The results of study show that there are several courses the users and IS experts regard as core courses: Introduction to Management, Project Management, Introduction to MIS, DBMS, ERP, Systems Development Methodology, and IS Strategy Planning. IS experts regard the data and application integration, IT evaluation and strategic planning as the important jobs, and the most important job competency to conduct those jobs is the category of interpersonal skills, and business management knowledge, IT skills are succeeded.

  • As game and character animation industries are growing, techniques for reproducing realistic character behaviors have been required in various fields. Therefore, intensive researches have been performed in order to find various methods for realistic character animation. The most common approaches to character animation involves tedious user input method, simulation with physical laws based on dynamics, and measurement of actors' behaviors with input devices such as motion capture system. These approaches have their own advantages, but they all have common disadvantage in character control. In order to provide users with convenient control, the realistic animation must be generated with high-level parameters, and the modification should also be made with high-level parameters. In this paper we propose techniques for developing an automated character animation tool which operates with high-level parameters, and introduce techniques for developing actual games by utilizing this tool.

  • Healthcare application system has been actively researched to apply WSN technology to healthcare area with a mobile sensor node of low cost, low power, and small size. Sensor node has the problem for transmission range of RF power and time delay of the wireless routing connectivity between sensor nodes. In this paper, we proposes a new method utilizing mobile sensor nodes with relay sensor nodes for quick network routing changing using query technique in healthcare system. A query processor to control and manage the routing changing of sensor nodes in a wireless sensor network was designed and implemented. The user's PC transmits the beacon message which will change the quick link routing according to activity status of patient in wireless sensor network. We describe the implementation for query protocol that is very effective of power saving between sensor nodes.

  • Feature of current IPTV services is that the IPTV Provider buys the rights of contents from contents author and provides consumers monopolistically with those. In this environment, IPTV is indistinguishable from the way of existing broadcasting services. To shift away from this structure, it is necessary to guarantee the common user's participation and provide the Open IPTV services for customers to be allowed to have be defined for more opportunities to select the contents. However, there are some problems to conduct Open IPTV service due to a variety of rights protection solutions designed by previous digital broadcast providers. Therefore, a new framework is needed to overall Open IPTV environment. This paper provides the design can packaging contents authoring and consuming tool for IPTV application service based on Open IPTV.

Efficient Mobile Writing System with Korean Input Interface Based on Face Recognition

  • The virtual Korean keyboard system is a method of inputting characters by touching a fixed position. This system is very inconvenient for people who have difficulty moving their fingers. To alleviate this problem, this paper proposes an efficient framework that enables keyboard input and handwriting through video and user motion obtained through the RGB camera of the mobile device. To develop this system, we use face recognition to calculate control coordinates from the input video, and develop an interface that can input and combine Hangul using this coordinate value. The control position calculated based on face recognition acts as a pointer to select and transfer the letters on the keyboard, and finally combines the transmitted letters to integrate them to perform the Hangul keyboard function. The result of this paper is an efficient writing system that utilizes face recognition technology, and using this system is expected to improve the communication and special education environment for people with physical disabilities as well as the general public.
