The Purpose of this study is to analyze an active discussion in North America about the issue of community archives governance which mainly focused on 'participatory archives' model and from it, draws implications for the present stage of domestic community archives development. Traditionally in the United States and Canada, local community archives have been built mostly by mainstream cultural institutions such as public archives, public libraries, museums, and historical societies as a part of comprehensive documentation of the society at large. At the same time, they have been processed and managed in accordance with the institution's collection development policy. As a result, most community archives in North America are characterized as top-down community archives model (in contrast with down-up model of 'independent' community archives as a part of grass roots movement in the UK). Recently, the community archives in North America with these characteristics try to overcome their limitations, which result in 'the others' of community archives, through governance, that is, community-institution partnership. Participatory archives model which assumes active community participation in all archives processes is being suggested by archival communities as the effective alternative of governance model of top-down community archives. This discussion of community archives governance suggests progressive direction for the present stage of domestic community archives, which has been built mostly by various mainstream cultural institutions and still has been stayed in 'about the community' stage. Particularly, community outreach strategies that participatory archives model concretely suggests are useful as a conceptual framework in building community archives based on community-institution partnership in reality.

The purpose of this study was to provide an economical and easy preparation method for recombinant human epidermal growth factor (rhEGF) without the need for an expensive enzyme to cleave the fusion part. However, the N-terminal fusion part is still useful for affinity chromatography. The hEGF is an important hormone in cell growth and proliferation in humans, and many studies on the expression and purification of this protein have been reported. In the present study, the hEGF gene was designed to be optimized with the E. coli codon usage preference and to contain Asn-Gly at the N-terminus of the protein. The gene was inserted into pRSET_A, an E. coli expression vector, and transformed into E. coli BL21 (DE3). The recombinant fusion protein was successfully co-expressed with pG-Tf2, a chaperone vector, in E. coli and purified by Ni-NTA column chromatography. The rhEGF was then released by hydroxylamine treatment and confirmed by SDS-PAGE. ELISA analysis showed that the activity of the free rhEGF was more than 92% similar to that of commercial EGF. The biological activity of the rhEGF was confirmed by a cell proliferation test with human skin fibroblasts.
User-centered design and Experience Design are emerging in the design area. Therefore, the Role-Playing Method has been actively utilized in the process of design development. But the terms of Role-Playing Method which follow these trends. has not been integrated. Further, it is hard to utilize the process of design development because the process method is not settled yet. Therefore, this study is into two parts of the research: Defining the concept of Role-Playing and the experiment of Role-Playing. Firstly, defining concept part is to research the design method corresponds to a wide range of Role-Playing that has a similar definition. After then, analyzed the examples of Role-Playing Methods which was derived matrix from Role-Playing classification. With this process, two axes of the matrix have been produced such as role·scenario and puppet. Through the analysis of the utility and vulnerability of the Role-Playing classification matrix, this study was able to propose the using step of the Role-Playing in the double diamond model. Secondly, two experiments were conducted in the experiment part. Through the pilot experiment explored the possibility of a study of the Role-Playing Method. In the second experiment, the process was conducted with Role-Playing classification matrix. As a result, each Role-Playing has different insights. In terms of design, different aspects of composing elements were found. Plus, in the position of the user, Role-Playing are can observe different parts of user's cognition between acting and puppet. Thus, the role-playing was proven to be useful to find out the point of improvement and insight in service from different perspectives and it resulted in the role playing which can be utilized selectively according to the type of service.
A car horn serves a crucial safety role as a means of communication between drivers and a part that alerts pedestrians in advance. While previous studies have utilized finite element method and electric circuit model to simulate and analyze characteristics of the car horns, there remains a lack of research on design methods of a trumpet horn. This paper presents a design approach that predicts the operating frequency based on the acoustic reactance at the throat of the horn, once the vibrating part is determined. We deal with a horn combining both an exponential horn and a waveguide in the acoustic section, and confirm that the acoustic reactance at the horn throat measured by impedance tube experiment agrees well compared with the numerical result obtained using the finite element method. The resonance frequency of the car horn is predicted using the COMSOL Multiphysics finite element numerical analysis model, and the proposed design method is validated by measuring the operating frequency of the designed horn in a sound pressure experiment. As a result, the resonance measured in a semi-anechoic chamber environment by applying a DC voltage of 12 [V] excluding the holder occurs accurately within a few [Hz] of the design operating frequency. This paper discuss the design method of a trumpet horn from the perspective of the horn's acoustic reactance, and is expected to be useful for designing horn systems.
In these days, open signboard system is controlled by administrative policy and law, but there is no consideration for different types of building. As such, this study aims to propose planning criteria for streetside commercial buildings, such as elevation and mass design of buildings, layout of signboard attached to the building elevation with consideration for streetscape. In mass planning for streetside commercial buildings, the building type with front open space keeps lower open signboard density than the building type directly leading to the street. It is desirable that open signboard of lower floor part is attached by a horizontal type, open signboard of low medium floor part by a projected vertical type, open signboard of high medium floor part and roof part with a minumum attachment of open signboard. As for elevation planning relative to open signboard, it is desirable that an irregular wall type is more useful than a regular wall type to control open signboard. And in all cases, horizontal element facade has a handicap to control the quantity of signboard. If the building has a corner, the piloti should be used in the corner of lower story for smooth circulation of pedestrians and emphasizing the transparency of elevation. Specially, in the case of a round corner, the corner should be emphasized by the composition of high transparent mass.
Introduction: The treatment of proximal humeral fracture is traditionally determined by Neer's classification system. The severely displaced three-part or four-part fracture is an indication for primary hemiarthroplasty. The current authors report the clinical results of 10 patients who received hemiarthroplasty for proximal comminuted fractures. The minimum follow-up period was 12 months. Materials and Methods: The current authors studied 10 patients who, between July 1999 and March 2005, each received hemiarthroplasty for a proximal humeral fracture of one shoulder. According to Neer's classification system, 5 of the patients had three-part fractures, and 5 of the patients had 4-part fractures. The mean interval between trauma and hemiarthroplasty was 6.1 days. The mean age of the 6 female and 4 male patients was 67.4 years(range: 56 to 76). Shoulder function was evaluated using the Constant score, the Simple Shoulder Test, and the modified UCLA score. Results: The mean Constant score was 51.4(range: 34 to 60). The mean modified SST score was 7.8 out of 12 tasks. Excluding the one patient who had also sustained an axillary artery rupture and a brachial plexus injury after the initial trauma, the mean Constant score for the remaining 9 patients was 53.5(range: 44 to 60), and the mean SST score was 7.2 tasks. The modified UCLA score averages for pain, function, and active forward flexion and strength were, respectively, 8.2($6{\sim}10$), 6.6($2{\sim}8$), and 6.9($4{\sim}8$). The total UCLA score was an average of 21.7($12{\sim}26$). Patients' the modified UCLA ratings were as follows: Excellent: 3, Good: 6, and Poor: 1. The patient with the poor outcome was the one who had also sustained the neurovascular injury. Patient's subjective satisfaction rating were as follows: Excellent: 2, Good: 7, and Poor: 1. Conclusion: Based on short term follow-up results, this study indicates that hemiarthroplasty is the treatment of choice for proximal humeral fractures on which it would be difficult to perform open reduction and internal fixation. Hemiarthroplasty is a useful treatment modality to prevent shoulder stiffness and to allow daily living tasks in elderly patients. However, restoration of muscle power and range of joint motion were not recovered satisfactorily.

In this paper, we implement robot which are ability to recognize obstacles and moving automatically to destination. we present two results in this paper; hardware implementation of image processing board and software implementation of visual feedback algorithm for a self-controlled robot. In the first part, the mobile robot depends on commands from a control board which is doing image processing part. We have studied the self controlled mobile robot system equipped with a CCD camera for a long time. This robot system consists of a image processing board implemented with DSPs, a stepping motor, a CCD camera. We will propose an algorithm in which commands are delivered for the robot to move in the planned path. The distance that the robot is supposed to move is calculated on the basis of the absolute coordinate and the coordinate of the target spot. And the image signal acquired by the CCD camera mounted on the robot is captured at every sampling time in order for the robot to automatically avoid the obstacle and finally to reach the destination. The image processing board consists of DSP (TMS320VC33), ADV611, SAA7111, ADV7l76A, CPLD(EPM7256ATC144), and SRAM memories. In the second part, the visual feedback control has two types of vision algorithms: obstacle avoidance and path planning. The first algorithm is cell, part of the image divided by blob analysis. We will do image preprocessing to improve the input image. This image preprocessing consists of filtering, edge detection, NOR converting, and threshold-ing. This major image processing includes labeling, segmentation, and pixel density calculation. In the second algorithm, after an image frame went through preprocessing (edge detection, converting, thresholding), the histogram is measured vertically (the y-axis direction). Then, the binary histogram of the image shows waveforms with only black and white variations. Here we use the fact that since obstacles appear as sectional diagrams as if they were walls, there is no variation in the histogram. The intensities of the line histogram are measured as vertically at intervals of 20 pixels. So, we can find uniform and nonuniform regions of the waveforms and define the period of uniform waveforms as an obstacle region. We can see that the algorithm is very useful for the robot to move avoiding obstacles.

Recently, ISO/IEC 23000 (also known as 'MPEG-A') has proposed a new file format called 'MAF(Multimedia Application File Format)[1]' which provides a capability of integrating/storing the widely-used compression standards for audio and video and the metadata in MPEG-7 form into a single file format. However, it is still very hard to verify the usefulness of MPEG-A in the real applications because there is still no real system that fully implements this standard. In this thesis, a design and implementation of a multimedia retrieval system based on MPEG-A standard on PC and mobile device is presented. Furthermore, an extension of MPEG-A for describing the metadata for video is also proposed. It is selected and defined as a subset of MPEG-7 MDS[4] and TV-anytime[5] for video that is useful and manageable in the mobile environments. In order to design the multimedia retrieval system based on MPEG-A, we define the system requirements in terms of portability, extensibility, compatibility, adaptability, efficiency. Based on these requirements, we design the system which composed of 3 layers: Application Layer, Middleware Layer, Platform Layer. The proposed system consists of two sub-parts, client-part and server-part. The client-part consists of MAF authoring tool, MAP player tool and MAF searching tool which allow users to create, play and search the MAF files, respectively. The server-part is composed of modules to store and manage the MAF files and metadata extracted from MAF files. We show the usefulness of the proposed system by implementing the client system both on MS-Windows platform on desk-top computer and WIPI platform on mobile phone, and validate whether it to satisfy all the system requirements. The proposed system can be used to verify the specification in the MPEG-A, and to proves the usefulness of MPEG-A in the real application.
To evaluate usefulness of a functional tracheobronchial phantom for interventional procedure. The functional phantom was made as a actual size with human normal anatomy used silicone and a paper clay mold. A tracheobronchial-shape clay mold was placed inside a square box and liquid silicone was poured. After the silicone was formed, the clay was removed. We measured film density and tracheobronchial angle at the human, animal and phantom, respectively. The film density of trachea part were 0.76(${\pm}0.011$) in human, 0.97(${\pm}0.015$) in animal, 0.45(${\pm}0.016$) in phantom. The tracheobronchial bifurcation part measured 0.51(${\pm}0.006$) in human, 0.65(${\pm}0.005$) in animal, 0.65(${\pm}0.008$) in phantom. The right bronchus part measured 0.14(${\pm}0.008$) in human, 0.59(${\pm}0.014$) in animal and 0.04(${\pm}0.007$) in phantom. The left bronchus were 0.54(${\pm}0.004$) in human, 0.54(${\pm}0.008$) in animal and 0.08(${\pm}0.008$) in phantom. At the stent part were 0.54(${\pm}0.004$) in human, 0.59(${\pm}0.011$) in animal and 0.04(${\pm}0.007$) in phantom, respectively. The tracheobronchial angle of the left bronchus site were $42.6({\pm}2.07)^{\circ}$ in human, $43.4({\pm}2.40)^{\circ}$ in animal and $35({\pm}2.00)^{\circ}$ in phantom, respectively. The right bronchus site were $32.8({\pm}2.77)^{\circ}$ in human, $34.6({\pm}1.94)^{\circ}$ in animal and $50.2({\pm}1.30)^{\circ}$ in phantom, respectively. The phantom was useful for in-vitro testing of tracheobronchial interventional procedure, since it was easy to reproduce.

To evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of a pulsatile aortic aneurysm phantoms for in-vitro study. The phantoms consisted of a pulsating motor part(heart part) and an aortic aneurysm part, which mimicked true physiologic conditions. The heart part was created from a high-pressured water pump and a pulsatile flow solenoid valve for the simulation of aortic flow. The aortic aneurysm part was manufactured from paper clay, which was placed inside a acrylic plastic square box, where liquid silicone was poured. After the silicone was formed, the clay was removed, and a silicone tube was used to connect the heart and aneurysm part. We measured the change in pressure as related to the opening time(pulse rate, Kruskal-Wallis method) and pressure before and after the stent-graft implantation(n = 5, Wilcoxon's signed ranks test). The changes in blood pressures according to pulse rate were all statistically significant(p<0.05). The systolic/diastolic pressures at the proximal aorta, the aortic aneurysm, and the distal aorta of the model were $157.80{\pm}1.92/130.20{\pm}1.92$, $159.40{\pm}1.14/134.00{\pm}2.92$, and $147.20{\pm}1.480/129.60{\pm}2.70\;mmHg$, respectively, when the pulse rate was 0.5 beat/second. The pressures changed to $161.40{\pm}1.34/90.20{\pm}1.64$, $175.00{\pm}1.58/93.00{\pm}1.58$, and $176.80{\pm}1.48/90.80{\pm}1.92\;mmHg$, respectively, when the pulse rate was 1.0 beat/second, and $159.40{\pm}1.82/127.20{\pm}1.48$, $166.60{\pm}1.67/138.00{\pm}1.87$, and $161.00{\pm}1.22/135.40{\pm}1.67\;mmHg$, respectively, when it was 1.5 beat/second. When pulse rate was set at 1.0 beat/second, the pressures were $143.60{\pm}1.67/90.20{\pm}1.64$, $147.20{\pm}1.92/84.60{\pm}1.82$, and $137.40{\pm}1.52/88.80{\pm}1.64\;mmHg$ after stent-graft implantation. The changes of pressure before and after stent-graft implantation were statistically significant(p<0.05) except the diastolic pressures at the proximal(p =1.00) and distal aorta(p=0.157). The aortic aneurysm phantoms seems to be useful for the evaluation of the efficacy of stent-graft before animal or clinical studies because of its easy reproducibility and ability to display a wide range of pressures.
