  • In this paper, we study the boundedness of a class of inhomogeneous Journé's product singular integral operators on the inhomogeneous product Lipschitz spaces. The consideration of such inhomogeneous Journé's product singular integral operators is motivated by the study of the multi-parameter pseudo-differential operators. The key idea used here is to develop the Littlewood-Paley theory for the inhomogeneous product spaces which includes the characterization of a special inhomogeneous product Besov space and a density argument for the inhomogeneous product Lipschitz spaces in the weak sense.

  • When we design a product, we need to consider human sensibility for the product. In this study, we developed a technique to measure human sensibility for a product. Because human sensibility for a product is very subjective and fuzzy, it is hard to measure easily. To deal with this difficulty effectively, we used fuzzy-weighted checklist to this problem. The fuzzy- weighted checklist presents a fuzzy version of the weighted checklist technique computerized for evaluating or comparing complex system (or subjects). In this technique, we used pairwise comparison to get the relative weights of wensibility factors. Also, we used linguistic ratings to get the scores of sensibility factors for a product. Then, we synthesize the scores of sensi- bility factors to get fuzzy composite score (and linguistic approximation). If there are several alternatives, we can conduct alternative comparison. Finally, we wrote the program of this technique by Quick Basic software. As an example, this technique applied to car. The results show that we can use this technique effectively to the quantitative evaluation of human sensibility

  • Usability is one of the most important factors that affect customers' decision to purchase a product. Several studies have been conducted to model the relationship between the product design variables and the product usability. Since there could be hundreds of design variables to be considered in the model, a variable screening method is required. Traditional variable screening methods are based on expert opinions (Expert screening) in most Kansei engineering studies. Suggested in this study are statistical methods for screening important design variables by using the principal component regression(PCR), cluster analysis, and partial least squares(PLS) method. Product variables with high effect (PCR screening and PLS screening) or representative variables (Cluster screening) can be used to model the usability. Proposed variable screening methods are used to model the usability for 36 audio/visual products. The three analysis methods (PCR, Cluster, and PLS) show better model performance than the Expert screening in terms of $R^2$, the number of variables in the model, and PRESS. It is expected that these methods can be used for screening the product design variables efficiently.

  • This study discusses a contract to promote collection and recycling of used products in a green supply chain (GSC). A collection incentive contract is combined with a reward-penalty contract. The collection incentive contract for used products is made between a retailer and a manufacturer. The reward-penalty contract for recycling used products is made between a manufacturer and an external institution. A retailer pays an incentive for collecting used products from customers and delivers them to a manufacturer with a product order quantity under uncertainty in product demand. A manufacturer remanufactures products using recyclable parts with acceptable quality levels and covers a part of the retailer's incentive from the recycled parts by sharing the reward from an external institution. Product demand information is assumed as (i) the distribution is known (ii) mean and variance are known. Besides, the optimal decisions for product quantity, collection incentive of used products and lower limit of quality level for recyclable parts under decentralized integrated GSCs. The analysis numerically investigates how (1) contract for recycling activity, (ii) product demand information and (iii) quality of recyclable parts affect the optimal operation for each GSC. Supply chain coordination to shift IGSC is discussed by adopting Nash Bargaining solution.

  • In this paper, a new method of product function analysis is presented to categorize various design information generated in product development processes. In order to improve product functions, designers must understand unit functions and modified parts of products. The product function analysis (PFA) is based on the designer's understanding of product functions. The proposed PFA provides the methodology to classify the various functions systematically and understand the relation between functions easily. Using this approach, efficient design support system can be developed and used for designers to support decision-making with design knowledge.

  • Various attempts are being made to reduce carbon emissions through recycling of industrial by-products in the construction materials industry to reduce carbon emissions, and cement substitutes such as blast furnace slag and fly ash are widely used. Although it is suggested that the use of industrial by-product aggregate is possible in 'Aggregate', the use case of industrial by-product aggregate is very rare in the actual field. In this study, as an industrial by-product, fine slag aggregate is used as fine aggregate among aggregates that can be used as aggregate for concrete, and coarse aggregate is used as a substitute for natural aggregate. WWe tried to suggest various ways to expand the use of industrial by-product aggregates.

  • This paper discusses an optimization-based approach for the design of a product platform for industrial three-axis linear-type robots, which are widely used for handling objects in manufacturing lines. Since the operational specifications of these robots, such as operation speed, working distance and orientation, weight and shape of loads, etc., will vary for different applications, robotic system vendors must provide various types of robots efficiently and effectively to meet a range of market needs. A promising step toward this goal is the concept of a product platform, in which several key elements are commonly used across a series of products, which can then be customized for individual requirements. However the design of a product platform is more complicated than that of each product, due to the need to optimize the design across many products. This paper proposes an optimization-based fundamental framework toward the design of a product platform for industrial three-axis linear-type robots; this framework allows the solution of a complicated design problem and builds an optimal design method of fundamental features of robot frames that are commonly used for a wide range of robots. In this formulation, some key performance metrics of the robot are estimated by a reducedorder model which is configured with beam theory. A multi-objective optimization problem is formulated to represent the trade-offs among key design parameters using a weighted-sum form for a single product. This formulation is integrated into a mini-max type optimization problem across a series of robots as an optimal design formulation for the product platform. Some case studies of optimal platform design for industrial three-axis linear-type robots are presented to demonstrate the applications of a genetic algorithm to such mathematical models.

  • In the early phases of the product life cycle, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is recently used to support the decision-making for the product concepts, and the best alternative can be selected based on its estimated LCA and benefits. Both the lack of detailed information and time for a full LCA for a various range of design concepts need a new approach for the environmental analysis. This paper explores a new approximate LCA methodology for the product concepts by grouping products according to their environmental characteristics and by mapping product attributes into environmental impact driver (EID) index. The relationship is statistically verified by exploring the correlation between total impact indicator and energy impact category. Then, a neural network approach is developed to predict an approximate LCA of grouping products in conceptual design. Trained learning algorithms for the known characteristics of existing products will quickly give the result of LCA for newly designed products. The training is generalized by using product attributes for an EID in a group as well as another product attributes for the other EIDs in other groups. The neural network model with back propagation algorithm is used, and the results are compared with those of multiple regression analysis. The proposed approach does not replace the full LCA but it would give some useful guidelines for the design of environmentally conscious products in conceptual design phase.

  • The national product identifier(NPI) currently used in the national product asset management system does not accommodate ISO or EPC standards due to the limitation of tag memory. For this reason, we propose a new NPI which accommodates not only ISO item identification standards but also the memory capacity of ISO tags. First of all, memory structures of ISO/IEC 18000-6C and EPC tags are analyzed from the view point of product identifier structure. Second, ISO/IEC 15459 and EPC identification standards as item identifier structures for the product asset management are analyzed. Third, based on these analyses, the NPI used for the current RFID-based product asset management system is analyzed and its problems are presented. Finally, a new NPI structure is proposed suitable for ISO/IEC 18000-6C and ISO/IEC 15459.

  • CAD systems have been developed with network technology and it is needed to exchange product data among them. STEP becomes world-wide international standard to exchange CAD data among various heterogeneous CAD systems in manufacturing industrial fields. We report results to test errors that can happen when exchanging STEP files of product model through the STEP translator of different commercial CAD systems. Also the tests of Korean Character, Hangul, have been carried out. And also we report the STEP rallies held twice in Korea and several rounds abroad, and their testing results are shown as tables and graphs. The tested results can be used for exchanging product models to the next domestic STEP Rally and extended to Northeastem Asian STEP rally by steadily contacting with the organizations for Asian STEP centers such as JSTEP(Japan) and CSTEP(China). Finally we expect that the result can be used to specify STEP standardization in the field of managing product data.
