Automobile wiper blades are generally treated with chlorine to lower their friction coefficient with the windshield surface. This treatment could affect the crosslink density measurement of rubber vulcanizates, a material used in windshield wipers, which would consequently alter its chemical and physical properties. Therefore, this study evaluated the influence of chlorination on crosslink density measurements of natural rubber (NR) vulcanizates using a vehicle wiper blade. A method for determining the degree of chlorination was developed where the interaction parameter between the rubber and the swelling solvent was corrected. A decrease in the rubber sample swelling ratio was observed upon chlorination, and the chlorination penetrated less than 1% of the sample thickness. The chlorinated NR was assumed to be chloroprene rubber (CR), which was used to correct the interaction parameter. The results showed the CR contributed approximately 7% to the parameter.

Axial fans are widely used in heavy machines due to their ability to produce high flow rate for cooling of engines. At the same time. the noise generated by these fans causes one of the most serious problems. This work is concerned with the low noise technique of discrete frequency noise. The prediction model. which allowed the calculation of acoustic pressure at the blade passing frequency and it's harmonics. has been developed by Farrasat. This theory is founded upon the acoustic radiation of unsteady forces acting on blade. To calculate the unsteady resultant force over the fan blade. Time-Marching Free-Wake Method are used. The fan noise of fan system having unsymmetric engine-room is predicted. In this paper, the discussion is confined to the performance and discrete noise of axial fan and front part of engine room in heavy equipments.
In modem wind power system of large capacity above 1MW, horizontal axis wind turbine(HAWT) is a common type. And, the optimum design of wind turbine to guarantee excellent power performance and its reliability in structure and longevity is a key technology in wind Industry. In this study, mathematical expressions based upon the conventional BEMT(blade element momentum theory) applying to basic 1MW wind turbine blade configuration design. Power coefficient and related flow parameters, such as Prandtl's tip loss coefficient, tangential and axial flow induction factors of the wind turbine analyzed systematically. X-FOIL was used to acquire lift and drag coefficients of the 2-D airfoils and we use Viterna-Corrigan formula to interpolate the aerodynamic characteristics in post-stall region. In order to predict the performance characteristics of the blade, a performance analysis carried out by BEMT method. As a results, axial and tangential flow factors, angle of attack, power coefficient investigated in this study.

Single-blade centrifugal pumps are widely used as sewage pumps. However, the impeller of a single-blade pump is subjected to strong radial thrust during pump operation because of the geometrical axial asymmetry of the impeller. Therefore, to improve pump reliability, it is necessary to quantitatively understand radial thrust and elucidate the behavior and mechanism of thrust generating. This study investigates the radial thrust acting up on a single-blade centrifugal impeller by conducting experiments and CFD analysis. The results show that the fluctuating component of radial thrust increases as the flow rate deviates from the design flow rate to low or high value. Radial thrust was modeled by a combination of three components, inertia, momentum, and pressure by applying an unsteady conservation of momentum to the impeller. The sum of these components agrees with the radial thrust calculated by integrating the pressure and the shearing stress on the impeller surface. The behavior of each component was shown, and the effects of each component on radial thrust were clarified. The pressure component has the greatest effect on the time-averaged value and the fluctuating component of radial thrust. The time-averaged value of the inertia component is nearly 0, irrespective of the change in the flow rate. However, its fluctuating component has a magnitude nearly comparable with the pressure component at a low flow rate and slightly decreased with the increase in flow rate.
The purpose of this 3-D numerical simulation is to calculate and examine the complex 3-D stall phenomena on the rotor blade and wake distribution of the wind turbine. The flow characteristics of 500kW Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine (HAWT) are compared with the calculated 3-D stall phenomena and wake distribution. We used the CFX-TASCflow to predict flow and power characteristics of the wind turbine. The CFD results are somewhat consistent with the BEM (Blade Element Momentum) results. And, the rotational speed becomes faster, the 3-D stall region becomes smaller. Moreover, the pressure distribution on the pressure side that directly gets the incoming wind grows high as it goes toward the tip of the blade. The pressure distribution on the blade's suction side tells us that the pressure becomes low in the leading edge of the airfoil as it moves from the hub to the tip. However, we are not able to precisely predict on the power coefficient of the rotor blade at the position of generating complex 3-D stall region.

The assumed modes method is developed to derive a set of linear differential equations describing the motion of a flexible wind turbine blade and to propose an approach to investigate the forced responses result from various wind excitations. In this work, we have adopted Euler beam theory and considered that the root of the blade is clamped at the rigid hub. And the aerodynamic parameters and forces are determined based on Blade Element Momentum (BEM) theory and quasi-steady airfoil aerodynamics. Numerical calculations show that this method gives good results and it can be used fur modeling and the forced vibration analysis including the coupling effect of wind-turbine blades, as well as turbo-machinery blades, aircraft propellers or helicopter rotor blades which may be considered as straight non-uniform beams with built-in pre-twist.
It has been indicated that the rotor/stator interaction has distinct causes of unsteadiness, such as the viscous vortex shedding, wake/stator interaction and potential rotor/stator interaction. In this paper, the mechanism of unsteady potential interaction in one stage axial compressor is numerically investigated for blade row ratio 1:1 and 2:3 at design point and for blade row ratio 2:3 at off-design point in two-dimensional view point. The numerical technique used is the upwind scheme of Van-Leer's Flux Vector Splitting(FVS) and Cubic spline interpolation is applied on zonal interface. In this study the flow unsteadiness due to potential interaction are found to be larger in blade row ratio 2:3 than in 1:1. The total pressure rise in blade row ratio 2:3 is closer to the real value in design point than that in 1:1. The change of unsteady pressure amplitude according to the variation of stator exit pressure is very small.

In this study, flow-induced vibration (FIV) analyses have been conducted for a 3D compressor blade model. Advanced computational analysis system based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and computational structural dynamics (CSD) has been developed in order to investigate detailed dynamic responses of designed compressor blades. Fluid domains are modeled using the computational grid system with local grid deforming and remeshing techniques. Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with $\kappa-\varepsilon$ turbulence model are solved for unsteady flow problems of the rotating compressor model. A fully implicit time marching scheme based on the Newmark direct integration method is used for computing the coupled aeroelastic governing equations of the 3D compressor blade for fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems. Detailed dynamic responses and instantaneous pressure contours on the blade surfaces considering flow-separation effects are presented to show the multi-physical phenomenon of the rotating compressor blade.

Effects of inflow Reynolds number (Re), turbulence intensity (I) and pressure gradient on the transition flow over a blade section were studied using the ${\gamma}-Re{\theta}$ transition model (STAR-CCM+). Results show that the $Re_T$ (transition Re) at the transition location ($P_T$) varies strongly with Re, I and the magnitude of pressure gradient. The $Re_T$ increases significantly with the increase of the magnitude of favorable pressure gradient. It demonstrates that the $Re_T$ on different blade sections of a rotating propeller are different. More importantly, when there is strong adverse pressure gradient, the $P_T$ is always close to the minimum pressure point. Based on these conclusions, the $P_T$ on model propeller blade surface can be estimated. Numerical investigations of pressure distribution and transition flow on a propeller blade section prove these findings. Last, a simple method was proposed to estimate the $P_T$ only based on the propeller geometry and the advance coefficient.

Recently, the development of aerospace and automobile industries brought new technological challenges, related to the growing complexity of products and new geometry models. High speed machining using 5-Axis milling machine is widely used for 3D sculptured surface parts. 5-axis milling of turbine blade generates the vibration, deflection and twisting caused from thin and cantilever shape. So, the surface roughness and the waviness of workpiece are not good. In this paper, The effects of cutter orientation and lead/tilt angle in 5-Axis high speed ball end-milling of turbine blade were investigated to improve the geometric accuracy and surface integrity. The experiments were performed at lead/tilt angle $15^{\circ}$ of workpiece with four cutter directions such as horizontal outward, horizontal inward, vertical outward, and vertical inward. Workpiece deflection, surface roughness and machined surface were measured with various cutter orientations such as cutting direction, and lead/tilt angle. The results show that when 5-axis machining of turbine blade, the best cutting strategy is horizontal inward direction with tilt angle. The results show that when 5-axis machining of turbine blade, the best cutting strategy is horizontal inward direction with tilt angle.
