Numerical calculation for the 1MW class horizontal axis wind turbine blade has been carried out to estimate the magnitude between discrete noise and random noise. Farassat formula 1A was adopted to get the discrete noise signal, and blade element momentum theory was used to obtain the distribution of the aerodynamic data along the blade span. Fukano's approach was also adopted to calculate the unsteady aerodynamic random noise due to the Karman vortex generation at the trailing edge of the wind turbine blade. From the noise prediction for the 1MW class horizontal axis wind turbine, the frequency band of the discrete noise lies in the infrasound region, and that of the random noise lies in the audible band region.
The flow inside an axial turbomachinery with multi-stage can be characterized as unsteady phenomena. In order to predict accurately these complex unsteady flow patterns including rotor-stator interaction effects, enormous computer resources are required. So it is not compatible in preliminary design process. In this study, steady coupled blade row flow with rotor-stator interaction solver is developed using interrow mixing model and used to predict the performance of the axial fan. To verify the computational method, the calculations are compared with experimental results and show satisfactory agreement with them. The interaction effects on the performance of the axial fan have also been studied by comparing the results of steady coupled blade row and steady single blade row flow calculation.

The performance of two vertical-blade eliminators (V1, V2) and two horizontal-blade ones (H1, H2) for absorption chillers were tested in terms of pressure drop and refrigerant entrainment. The test was carried out using a wind tunnel with a cross section of 300 mm$\times$300 mm. The pressure drop of four eliminators tested was found to be in the rage of 1.0~2.7mm $H_2O$ at the face velocity of 2m/s. In the refrigerant entrainment test the vertical-blade eliminators showed much better performance than the horizontal-blade ones. The horizontal-blade eliminators showed satisfactory results at the air velocity of 2m/s but exceeded the limit value at 3 m/s. Since the cooling capacity of a machine is lowered by about 2.5% at the pressure drop of 1 m $H_2O$, more researches are required to reduce the pressure drop in the eliminator.

Nnumerical investigations of the tip vortical characteristics were conducted with lateral tip blowing to reduce Blade-Vortex Interaction (BVI) noise. The predictions of BVI noise were performed using a combined method of an unsteady Euler code with an aeroacoustic code based on Ffowcs- Williams and Hawkings formulation. A moving overlapped grid system with three types of grids (blade grid, inner and outer background grid) was used to simulate BVI of helicopter with two OLS-airfoil blades in forward/ descending flight condition. The calculated waveform of BVI noise, which is characterized by the distinct peaks caused during blade vortex interaction, clearly shows the effect of lateral blowing at tip to reduce BVI noise
A tidal current turbine is designed and analyzed numerically by using blade element momentum theory. The rated power has a limitation because the diameter of the tidal current turbine cannot exceed the depth of sea water. This study investigates a horizontal axis tidal-current turbine with a rated power of 500 kW. NACA-6 series laminar foil shape is used for basic airfoil along the blade span. The distributions of chord length and twist angle along the blade span are obtained from the hydrodynamic optimization procedure. Prandtl's tip loss correction and angle of attack correction considering the three-dimensional effect are applied for this study. The power coefficient curve shows maximum peak at the rated tip speed ratio of 6.0, and the maximum torque coefficient is developed at the tip speed ratio of 4. The drag coefficient reaches about 0.85 at the design tip speed ratio.
Numerical calculations are performed to simulate the film cooling effect of turbine blade tip with squealer rim. Because of high temperature of inside rim, squealer rim is damaged easily. Therefore many various cooling systems were used. The calculations are based on 100,000 Reynolds number in linear cascade model. A blade has 2% tip clearance and 8.4% rim height. The axial chord length and turning angle is 237mm, 126$^{\circ}$. Numerical calculations are performed without and with film cooling. In a film cooling in the cavity, hot spots of cavity were cooled effectively. However hot spots of suction side rim still remains. The CFD results show that the circulation flow in cavity of squealer tip affects the temperature rise of squealer rim. To maintain the blade integrity and avoid the excessive hot spot of blade, rearrangement of cooling hole is needed.
The objective of this research is to design blade planform to reduce high speed impulsive(HSI) noise from a non-lifting helicopter rotor using CFD method and optimization techniques. As for the aero-acoustic analysis, CFD technique for aerodynamic analysis and Kirchhoff's method for the acoustic analysis were used. As for the optimization method, Kriging-based genetic algorithm(GA) model as a high-fidelity optimization method was chosen. Design variables and constraints are determined for arbitrary blade planform. The result shows that the optimized blade planform with high swept-back and taper ratio can reduce HSI noise by suppressing generation of the strong shock wave on blade surface and propagation of the noise to the farfield flow region.

In this study, aeroelastic performance analyses have been conducted for a 10MW class wind turbine blade model Advanced computational analysis system based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and computational structural dynamics (CSD) has been developed in order to investigate detailed dynamic responsed of wind turbine blade Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with k-${\omega}$ SST turbulence model are solved for unsteady flow problems of the rotating turbine blade model. A fully implicit time marching scheme based on the Newmark direct integration method is used for computing the coupled aeroelastic governing equations of the 3D turbine blade for fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems.

Beryllium copper has been known to be an important material for the various fields of industry because it can be used for mechanical and electrical/electronic components that are subjected to elevated temperatures (up to $400^{\circ}C$ for short times). Blade type tip for probing the cells of liquid crystal display(LCD) was fabricated using beryllium copper foil. The dry film resist was employed as a mask for patterning of the blade type tip. The beryllium copper foil was etched using hydrochloric acidic iron-chloride solution. The concentration, temperature, and composition ratio of hydrochloric acidic iron-chloride solution affect the etching characteristics of beryllium copper foil. Nickel with the thickness of $3{\mu}m$ was electroplated on the patterned copper beryllium foil for enhancing its hardness, followed by electroplating gold for increasing its electrical conductivity. Finally, the dry film resist on the bridge was removed and half of the nickel was etched to complete the blade type tip.
In this research, we propose an energy harvesting structure with a flexible blade element vibrating at its first mode to maximize the power output of the piezoelectric material. For this purpose, a piezoelectric patch was attached on the blade element used in a small-scale wind turbine, and air load was applied with a suitable angle of attack in the stall zone. The aerodynamic load created by air excitation vibrates the blade element in its first natural frequency and maximizes the voltage output of the piezoelectric patch. The variation of power outputs with respect to electrical resistance, air speed, and extra mass is experimentally investigated for various cases. An analytical model is constituted using a single-mode blade element with piezoelectric patch dynamics, and the power outputs of the obtained model are compared with experimental results.
