The Overview on the Education and Training Systems of Traditional Medicine in Asia and the Pacific

  • These days, traditional and complementary/alternative medicine (TM/CAM) becomes more upsurging topics of increasing importance and the use and popularity of TM/CAM is rapidly expanding, Since the tradition and situation on TM/CAM of each country is quite different, the concept and system of TM/CAM expressed by different countries shows the variety of range. Some countries recognize TM/CAM as one part of two branches of medical science and have integrated into national health care system. In these countries, education systems for TM/CAM are also well organized formal education systems, such as the Republic of Korea, DPR Korea, China (including Hong Kong and Macao), and Viet Nam. However, other countries in Asia and the Pacific. still do not have formal and/or informal education system and do not recognize TM/CAM as a kind of health care systems. This paper reviews the current situation of education and training on TM/CAM in the Asia and the Pacific. As a result, fifteen countries (31.3%) of 48 member countries in Asia and the Pacific have formal education systems for TM/CAM, twelve countries (25.0%) do not have formal education system and twenty one countries (43.7%) do not have available information. At least six countries are allocating the curriculum of medical school to the education of both allopathic and traditional medicine. For the proper use and development of TM/CAM, the development of formal education system as well as the integration into the national health care system are needed.

A Study on the Utilization of Open Source Hardware Platform for Convergence IT Education

  • In this paper, we suggest a method utilizing OSHW(Open Source HardWare) in order to raise up students who are competent in IT convergence and integration as a basic research to improve the university software education. Software education cannot be too much emphasized in the age of big change of Fourth Industrial Revolution. It hardly seems to have changes in the software education area of university where has to train competent technicians to be deployed into the industrial field, although software education is planned even in elementary, middle, and high school. In this situation, we expect that utilizing OSHW in software education can result in gaining a meaningful effect. However, we don't have various and systemic approach which use it as a education system component, unlike the response and necessity OSHW market. Therefore in this paper we suggest models which constitute software education environment based on OSHW and exemplify how to use it in each model. In addition, we compare and analyze each model in order to give a criteria to choice one of them according to the condition.

어린이 교육용 모바일 앱 인터랙티브 내러티브 디자인이 학습몰입도 증진, 지속사용의도에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Design for Interactive Narrative App, a Mobile App for Children's Education, on Enhancement of Learning Immersion and Intention to Continue Use)

  • 본 연구는 어린이 교육용 모바일 앱의 인터랙티브 내러티브 디자인이 학습몰입도 증진과 지속사용의도에 미치는 영향을 살펴봄으로써, 인터랙티브 내러티브 디자인의 교육적 효과성을 검증하여 어린이 교육용 앱에 기초한 인터랙티브 내러티브 디자인 방안을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구방법으로는 문헌연구방법 및 설문조사를 활용하여 진행하였다. 구체적으로 문헌연구방법을 통해 인터랙티브 디자인의 개념, 이해, 디자인 구성요소, 학습몰입도, 지속사용의도에 대한 개념과 선행연구를 살펴보았다. 다음으로 한국과 중국의 초등학생 각 100명씩 총 200명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 응답이 불성실한 설문지 한국 3부, 중국 5부를 제외하고 최종적으로 한국 97명, 중국 95명의 학습자를 대상으로 인터랙티브 내러티브 디자인, 학습몰입도, 지속사용의도를 파악하고 변수 간의 영향 관계를 분석하였다. 본 연구의 연구결과로는 어린이 교육용 앱 사용자인 초등학생을 대상으로 인터랙티브 내러티브 디자인 요소가 학습몰입도와 지속사용의도에 미치는 영향을 살펴본 결과 인터랙티브 내러티브 디자인이 학습몰입도 향상 및 지속사용의도에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 수학/과학 교육 시 이론적 개념이나 해석 등을 쉽게 이해하도록 구성하고 있으며, 단계별로 이야기와 이미지가 이어지기 때문에 지루함을 느끼지 않고 학습할 수 있도록 돕기 때문인 것으로 볼 수 있다. 결론적으로 본 연구에서는 인터랙티브 내러티브 디자인은 학습자가 학습에 몰입하고, 지속해서 이를 이용하도록 만든다는 긍정적인 효과를 가지고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

항생제 내성에 대한 소비자의 지식 및 태도 (Consumers' knowledge and attitudes toward antibiotic resistance)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the association between socio-demographic factors and attitudes toward antibiotic resistance and consumer's knowledge on antibiotic use for common cold. Telephone survey was conducted between June 24 and July 2, 2009, among 1,015 adults who were randomly stratified by age, sex and area. A total of 921 respondents were included in the analysis. Logistic regression was used to analyze the influence of socio-demographic factors on knowledge and attitudes. A total of 452 respondents(49.1%) recognised that they knew about antibiotic resistance and 769 respondents(83.5%) worried that antibiotic resistance is a serious problem in Korea. A total of 577 respondents(62.7%) had adequate knowledge on antibiotic use and resistance. Multiple logistic regression showed that younger age and higher education level were associated with adequate knowledge. The odds ratio of appropriate knowledge among persons with college degrees was 5.25(95% CI, 2.78-9.90) compared to those with elementary or less education. Sex and income variable were not predictors of adequate knowledge on antibiotic use and resistance. This study showed that consumers with less education had inadequate knowledge on antibiotic use for common cold. Even though consumers in their 40s and 50s thought they knew about antibiotic resistance, there is a need to improve their knowledge. Education campaigns for appropriate antibiotic use have to be differentiated among consumers with different socio-demographic characteristics.

농업용수 물절약에 대한 농업인 의식 및 행동 조사 - 포항·영덕지역 수리시설감시원을 대상으로 - (Survey of Farmers' Perception and Behavior for Agricultural Water Saving - Applying to Irrigation Facility Monitors in Pohang and Yeongdeok Areas -)

  • While agricultural water has been declared free in Korea to ensure access to these limited resource since the year 2000, farmers have however developed lackadaisical behavior towards water saving leading to its scarcity. To overcome this problem, a variety of experience-oriented education model was developed for farmers to promote the adoption of water conservation, and preventive measure against the drought impacts. In this study, farmers' awareness and their attitudinal behavior of agricultural water savings were investigated. The monitoring of water supply structure and the repair facilities in Pohang and Yeongdeok areas were conducted. The field visits and behavioral surveys showed a high degree of over-use and illegal water withdrawals by the farmers due to poor water-saving and management practices. We found that most of the KRC employees strongly admitted the necessity of water-saving education. On the other hand, the farmers showed good interest in the implementation of water-saving awareness through education. Besides this, most farmers agreed to adopt water-saving practices in the fields. Farmers also acknowledged the recklessness of water use was due to the aging of waterways, poor water management, and illegal water consumption. The majority of the farmers responded against imposing the water-use tariffs. However, there was a low response to paying the water-use charge. Aging agricultural facilities and the lack of institutional penalties or incentives were the major obstacles in achieving efficient water-saving. Considering the current drought frequency, urgent water-saving education of farmers was deemed necessary to prepare the farming community against the water shortages. Based on the results of this study, we have to identify the irrigation practices of farmers and provide water-saving education to enforce more efficient use and management of agricultural water.

Effects of the use of a conversational artificial intelligence chatbot on medical students' patient-centered communication skill development in a metaverse environment

  • This study investigated how the use of a conversational artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot improved medical students' patient-centered communication (PCC) skills and how it affected their motivation to learn using innovative interactive tools such as AI chatbots throughout their careers. This study adopted a one-group post-test-only design to investigate the impact of AI chatbot-based learning on medical students' PCC skills, their learning motivation with AI chatbots, and their perception towards the use of AI chatbots in their learning. After a series of classroom activities, including metaverse exploration, AI chatbot-based learning activities, and classroom discussions, 43 medical students completed three surveys that measured their motivation to learn using AI tools for medical education, their perception towards the use of AI chatbots in their learning, and their self-assessment of their PCC skills. Our findings revealed significant correlations among learning motivation, PCC scores, and perception variables. Notably, the perception towards AI chatbot-based learning and AI chatbot learning motivation showed a very strong positive correlation (r=0.72), indicating that motivated students were more likely to perceive chatbots as beneficial educational tools. Additionally, a moderate correlation between motivation and self-assessed PCC skills (r=0.54) indicated that students motivated to use AI chatbots tended to rate their PCC skills more favorably. Similarly, a positive relationship (r=0.68) between students' perceptions of chatbot usage and their self-assessed PCC skills indicated that enhancing students' perceptions of AI tools could lead to better educational outcomes.

  • 정보사회가 가져온 변화로 보다 더 효율적으로 학급을 경영할 수 있는, 학급경영 지원시스템으로서의 사이버 공간이 필요한 시점이 되었다. 본 연구는 Web 기반의 학급경영 지원시스템을 설계하고 구현하여 바람직한 인터넷 활용 방향을 모색하고 보다 더 효율적인 학급경영을 이끌어 낼 수 있도록 하였다. 학급 경영 과업 중에서 Web에서 구현 가능한 내용을 적용하여, 인터넷 활용을 보다 더 교육적인 방법으로 유도하고, 올바른 인성 함양, Web 자원의 학습적 활용, 학생을 특기와 적성을 신장시켜, 시간적 공간적 제약을 벗어나 학급경영의 지원 역할을 충분히 할 수 있었다. 따라서 본 시스템을 적용하여 학생들이 적극적으로 참여할 수 있도록 이끌어 낼 때 한 차원 높은 학급 경영이 이루어지는 계기가 될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

The Effects of Programming Education using App inventor on Problem-solving Ability and Self-efficacy, Perception

  • The ability to use information technology has become increasingly important as technological advances continue to sweep through the computing world, and education for improving computational thinking has become globally instituted. In South Korea, informatics subjects have been modified in the 2015 curriculum and are now compulsory in primary and secondary education. However, despite substantial financial investment and numerous studies promoting informatics education, there continues to be a serious lack of pre-service teachers capable of teaching computational thinking. This study investigated pre-service teacher programming education using App Inventor, their perceptions of App Inventor, and how use of the program affected teacher problem-solving abilities and self-efficacy. In the pre-test, the control group and experimental group showed no statistically significant difference; however, the post-test revealed that the two groups showed statistically significant differences in problem-solving skills and self-efficacy. The participants initially showed interest in using App Inventor; however, after practice-teaching and project-based learning, the participants demonstrated a growing negativity toward the program when they made errors and the functional limits of App Inventor became apparent. Although most participants stated that they would not use App Inventor in their classes, the positive statistically significant differences in problem-solving skills and self-efficacy indicate that this study could be utilized as a basis for building a teaching-learning program using App Inventor and creating an educational plan for teaching computational thinking.

인공지능 활용 교육에 대한 초등교사 인식 분석 (The Analysis of Elementary School Teachers' Perception of Using Artificial Intelligence in Education)

  • 본 연구는 인공지능 활용 교육에 대한 초등교사의 인식을 종합적으로 분석하는 목적을 지닌다. 최근 학교 교육 현장에서 인공지능 기술의 활용에 대한 관심이 증대되고 있다. 하지만 초등학교 교사들이 이를 어떻게 인식하는지를 확인하는 연구는 미흡하다. 본 연구는 초등교사 69명을 대상으로 기술통계, 중다회귀분석, 의미변별척도를 활용하여 초등교사들이 교육에서 인공지능 활용에 대해 어떻게 인식하는지를 총체적으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 초등교사들은 인공지능 기술이 수업 시간 내 활동을 보조하는데 가장 적합하다고 응답하였으며 교수학습 방법 측면에서는 문제중심학습이 가장 적절하다고 인식하고 있었다. 인공지능의 교육적 활용에 대해 영향을 미치는 요소는 학습 내용, 학습 자료, 인공지능 기기로 나타났다. 인공지능 활용 교육은 개별학습, 참여 촉진, 흥미 유발 등의 특성을 지닌다고 인식하였다. 향후 최적화된 교육 운영을 가능하게 하는 수업 전략이나 모형 개발 등이 이루어질 필요가 있다.

The Formation of Managerial Competence of the Future Head of Preschool Education by Means of Information and Communication Technologies

  • The article deals with the formation of managerial competence of the future head of preschool education institution by means of information and communication technology as a prerequisite for his ability to act competently and objectively evaluate actions and understand the interaction of forms and content of preschool education. The article aimed to study the effectiveness of information and communication technologies in the formation of managerial competence of the future head of preschool education institution. To achieve the objectives, the methods of comparative and systematic analysis were used to compare different views on the problem under study, namely, the formation of managerial competence of the future head of preschool education institution by means of information and communication technologies. The authors of the article determined that the use of information and communication technologies in the preparation of future heads of preschool educational institutions is of great importance and is an indicator in the structure of managerial competence. The priority directions of the use of various software products for the study of the modern Ukrainian language, methods of teaching the Ukrainian language contribute to the intensification of learning material. It is noted that the current state of development of information technologies and their widespread use in education satisfies the requirements of the objectivity of the assessment obtained the quality of the control process of forming the managerial competence of the future leader in the context of the general problems of pre-school education. It is noted that the means of information and communication technologies play a leading role in creating new educational policies and projects, as they motivate the way of access to knowledge.
