A Penalized Principal Component Analysis using Simulated Annealing

  • Variable selection algorithm for principal component analysis using penalty function is proposed. We use the fact that usual principal component problem can be expressed as a maximization problem with appropriate constraints and we will add penalty function to this maximization problem. Simulated annealing algorithm is used in searching for optimal solutions with penalty functions. Comparisons between several well-known penalty functions through simulation reveals that the HARD penalty function should be suggested as the best one in several aspects. Illustrations with real and simulated examples are provided.

  • The method of lot by lot quality protection for sampling inspection by variables is widely used in quality control. In case of sampling inspection being done repeatedly, one can use the information from the previous sampling inspection to improve current estimates. This article shows that empirical Bayes estimator is superior to the usual sample mean in repeated sampling inspection by variables.

  • We consider an efficient parametric estimation method of spatial dependence in weak stationary processes. Spatial dependence is modeled through variogram and correlogram. Most of parametric estimation methods of correlogram use two step method; nonparametric estimation and parametric integration. We bind these two steps into one step by using GEE method instead of least squares type optimization. Our one step method is more efficient statistically and gives a clear interpretation of related concepts used in traditional two step methods.

  • Variable selection algorithm for principal component analysis using penalized likelihood method is proposed. We will adopt a probabilistic principal component idea to utilize likelihood function for the problem and use HARD penalty function to force coefficients of any irrelevant variables for each component to zero. Consistency and sparsity of coefficient estimates will be provided with results of small simulated and illustrative real examples.

  • There are many statistical information sites as the use of internet is increased quickly in recent years. In this paper, we explore and analyze internet sites for statistical information such as statistical survey system, education, database, and terminology. And then we classify these sites to apply statistical information to some particular spheres easily.   • At the conclusion from the hypothesis testing, there is a possibility of making Type I error and Type II error. The purpose of this article is to use this program in statistics teaching through developing the program for studying on the concept about these two errors, two kinds of the probability of errors by the variation of rejection region, two kinds of the probability of errors by the variation of sample size, the relations of the probability $\alpha$ and $\beta$ by these two errors, and power function, power curve.

  • The decision tree approach is most useful in classification problems and to divide the search space into rectangular regions. Decision tree algorithms are used extensively for data mining in many domains such as retail target marketing, fraud dection, data reduction and variable screening, category merging, etc. We analyze Gyeongnam social indicator survey data using decision tree techniques for environmental information. We can use these decision tree outputs for environmental preservation and improvement.
