The intersection between mathematics and biology is rapidly expanding. The purpose of this paper is to develop college mathematics curriculum to improve the quantitative and mathematical skills of life & biological science students, and to help them better appreciate the importance and utility of mathematics. We deal with 4 questions. We first study how mathematics plays an important role in biological education and the history of biology. Secondly, we do a case study about partnership between mathematics and biology societies not only in university but in highschool of US, specially via Bio2010 and Math & Bio2010. We then investigate a way to enhance new mathematics curriculum as a service in biological science. Finally, we survey university students' basic background in order to determine the level of curriculum. From our investigation, we suggest some points to renew curriculum.
This study is to find out the process of changes concerning the cadastral records that consist of the cadastre, the cadastral map and various registers of land in Japanese Colonial Period. The cadastre and cadastral map were the most important part of them and became the basis of cadastral records. These two registers were first made out according to the Project of Colonial Land Survey in the year 1912. As the influx of foreign Weights and Measures was greatly influenced by the foreign concession since 1876, the traditional units of the Weights and Measures had abolished finally. The extortion of sovereignty led a rapid change to the Weights and Measures in 1910. Japan compelled us to change into Japanese System of Measurement. From that time on, Lot(筆地) and Pyeong(坪) were settled down on the registers of land.

Wireless power transfer (WPT) efficiencies for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems are formulated with a goal of achieving their maximums using Z matrices. The maximum efficiencies for any arbitrarily given configurations are obtained using optimum loads, which can be determined numerically through adequate optimization procedures in general. For some simpler special cases (single-input single-output, single-input multiple-output, and multiple-input single-output) of the MIMO systems, the efficiencies and optimum loads to maximize them can be obtained using closed-form expressions. These closed-form solutions give us more physical insight into the given WPT problem. These efficiencies are evaluated theoretically based on the presented formulation and also verified with comparisons with circuit- and EM-simulation results. They are shown to lead to a good agreement. This work may be useful for construction of the wireless Internet of Things, especially employed with energy autonomy.
There are various types of noise around us such as road traffic noise, aircraft noise and floor impact sound, equipment noise etc. Recently researches on the criteria to evaluate the noises have been progressed, however, researches on the noise criteria and evaluation method for the diffuser noise of HVAC are insufficient. dB(A) and NC values represented in ASHRAE guide book are applied as a noise criteria for diffuser noise, which have some problems like that the values between dB(A) and NC have deviation even if the sound is same one. Therefore, the evaluation method should be considered and proposed based on the subjective responses. From these reasons, this study aimed to analyze the evaluation factors for the diffuser noise of HVAC reflected on the subjective responses by surveying vocabularies and grouping them with factor analysis.
This study proposes a novel method for identifying the primary conspirators involved in terrorist activities. To map the information related to terrorist activities, we gathered information from different sources of real cases involving terrorist attacks. We extracted useful information from available sources and then mapped them in the form of terrorist networks, and this mapping provided us with insights in these networks. Furthermore, we came up with a novel centrality measure for identifying the primary conspirators of a terrorist attack. Because the leaders of terrorist attacks usually direct conspirators to conduct terrorist activities, we designed a novel algorithm that can identify such leaders. This algorithm can identify terrorist attack leaders even if they have less connectivity in networks. We tested the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms on four real-world datasets and conducted an experimental evaluation, and the proposed algorithms could correctly identify the primary conspirators and leaders of the attacks in the four cases. To summarize, this work may provide information support for security agencies and can be helpful during the trials of the cases related to terrorist attacks.
The aim in this paper is to show how to extract scalp of a series of brain MR images by using region growing segmentation algorithm. Most researches are all forces on the segmentation of skull, gray matter, white matter and CSF. Prior to the segmentation of these inner objects in brain, we segmented the scalp and the brain from the MR images. The scalp mask makes us to quickly exclude background pixels with intensities similar those of the skull, while the brain mask obtained from our brain surface. We make use of connected threshold method (CTM) and confidence connected method (CCM). Both of them are two implementations of region growing in Insight Toolkit (ITK). By using these two methods, the results are displayed contrast in the form of 2D and 3D scalp images.
Freshwater ecosystems have a large reserve of latent biological resources that play an essential ecological role, and have significant economic and social value. Fungi in freshwater are prospective materials that can be used in the food, medicine, and biomass energy fields. In this study, three promising fungal species were isolated from freshwater ecosystems in Korea. These isolates were identified as Mortierella biramosa, Paraphoma radicina, and Sordaria macrospora, based on their cultural and morphological characteristics, as well as molecular phylogenetic analyses. These species were previously unknown in Korea. The finding allows us to explore its physiological and biochemical characteristics in more detail and use them as biological resources.
Twenty eight patients with conpnital heart disuse underwent lung biopsy to assets pulmonary obstructive vascular disease at cardiac surpry. Thirteen patients had patent ductus arteriosus, 10, ventricular septal defects and S, atrial septal defects. The aaes were between 2 and 30 years. In patients with patent ductus arteriosus lung biopsy was performed from the IIngular Hlment. The anterior seament of the right upper lobe was blopsled in cases with ventricular septal defect and atrial septal defect. Grading of pulmonary obstructive vascular disease could not be assessed In 9 cases. In 2 cases poor quality of the slides made us impossible to evaluate and In 7 cases there were no suitable small muscular arteries to evaluate in the slides of lung tissue especially taken from the IIngular seament. Nineteen cases were evaluated pulmonary obstructive vascular disease. Among them 17 cases had Heath-Edwards changes of grade 1 and 2 patients had that of grade 3. The thickness of media was measured. It was expressed as percentage of medial thickness to outer diameter of artery. The medial thickness was correlated proportionally with elevation of pulmonary arterial pressure and pulmonary vascular resistance to systemic vascular resistance ratio. There were no complications related to the procedure of lung biopsy.
The railway system consists of rolling stocks, facilities, electrical system, signaling and operation and so on, organically bound. Recently due to lots of train failures and accidents, especially the derailment related to track irregularity this year, all the people using the train are worried about railway safety and we paved the way for letting them knowing that all components of railway system are so important. As a result, most of developed countries operating railway have used to risk assessment methods about safety management to prevent railroad accidents in advance. The purpose of this paper is to find out how to closely apply to track field for risk assessment methods. Because there is no case to apply to and we're not interested in yet, despite of importance of track, in situations of higher train speed. Therefore, in this study we're going to investigate risk assessment methods and compare enire railway system with track system, eventually we want us try to present to safety management conditions necessary and secure safety improvement in track field.
ISO 3951 (1989) Sampling Procedures and Charts for Inspection by Variables for Percent Nonconforming is an acceptable quality level (AQL) type sampling scheme. Sample size code letters and inspection levels in this International Standard correspond to those given in the ISO 2859 (1989), a standard for sampling plans by attributes. Two acceptance sampling procedures can be used ; tabular and graphical methods. The graphs could be used in less critical applications while the tabular method would be available for those familiar with MIL-STD-414 tables and to confirm the results of the graphs when needed. The sampling procedures of the ISO 3951 are matched to the ISO 2859 to enable us to move between them. Composite OC and ASN curves are given for AQL 2.5% and code letter F.
