A Study on the 'Harmonizing All Medicinals' Property of Gancao (감초(甘草)의 조화제약(調和諸藥) 효능에 대한 고찰)

  • Objectives : To examine the meaning of 'harmonizing all medicinals(調和諸藥)' of Gancao's property to grasp its essence which would further lead to better understanding of formula composition where Gancao is both included and excluded. Methods : Contents on Gancao from previous texts were analyzed and integrated with basic descriptions on qi and flavor, shape and colour, origin, name, etc., to form a single Xiang(象) or image. Further discussion was developed from this point in a way to better understand the harmonizing property of Gancao. Results & Conclusions : Gancao's 'harmonizing all medicinals' property is achieved through its 'mitigate urgency' function. The meaning of 'harmonizing all medicinals' could be understood in terms of both mitigating the whole formula and mitigating each medicinal ingredient. First, Gancao's function of mitigating the whole formula is to mediate conflict that occurs from difference in property among each ingredient where each medicinal's property remains intact to perform its effects soundly. Second, to mitigate each medicinal ingredient is to balance the effects of severly biased medicinals to obtain desired effects. Both approaches are same in essence in that they mitigate urgency to achieve the original goal. Gancao's 'harmonizing all medicinals' is to arbitrate others, which sets Gancao apart from other ingredients to function at a more basal level.

The clinical observations of 4 case of Interstitial cystitis patient treated with Hapgokja(合谷刺) and Electroacupuncture (합곡자(合谷刺)와 전침(電鍼)으로 치료한 간질성 방광염 4례 증례보고)

  • Interstital cystitis(IC) is a disease of the bladder that is characterized by inveterate irritation due to non-specific chronic inflammation. The symptoms of IC are chronic pain, frequency, urgency and sleep deprivation These symptom's are contained to the Lunbing(淋病) in oriental medicine. We observed 4 cases of patient with Interstitial cystitis, the results are as follows. Methods & Results : All patients were treated by the same method. Treatment was performed by means of Hapgokja(合谷刺, The needle arrived to the bladder wall) with electroacupuncture(electric stimulation was 5mA mixed pulse, low frequency 2Hz and high frequency 30Hz, intensity was adjusted to inside the scope where the patients perseveres.) The electrodes were placed CV2 to CV3, both K11, K12. Conclusions : 1. As the result, uses the Hapgokja(合谷刺), with the electroacupuncture, symptoms are remarkably improved and got the satisfactory effect in the treatment. 2. In Hunner's ulcer type, the first treatment was not satisfactory, and second time, after 15 times treatment, there were maintain urgency, 8 times nocturia, 70 percents bladder pain. 3. 3 patients of nonulcer type were treated for 44.8 times(average) and improved started after 5 times treatment. After 2 month's treatment, there were no frequency, no urgency, and remain 1 or 2 nocturia, 30 percents bladder pain.

An Analysis of University Students' Needs for Learning Support Functions of Learning Management System Augmented with Artificial Intelligence Technology

  • The aim of this study is to identify intelligent learning support functions in Learning Management System (LMS) to support university student learning activities during the transition from face-to-face classes to online learning. To accomplish this, we investigated the perceptions of students on the levels of importance and urgency toward learning support functions of LMS powered with Artificial Intelligent (AI) technology and analyzed the differences in perception according to student characteristics. As a result of this study, the function that students considered to be the most important and felt an urgent need to adopt was to give automated grading and feedback for their writing assignments. The functions with the next highest score in importance and urgency were related to receiving customized feedback and help on task performance processed as well as results in the learning progress. In addition, students view a function to receive customized feedback according to their own learning plan and progress and to receive suggestions for improvement by diagnosing their strengths and weaknesses to be both vitally important and urgently needed. On the other hand, the learning support function of LMS, which was ranked as low importance and urgency, was a function that analyzed the interaction between professors and students and between fellow students. It is expected that the results of this student needs analysis will be helpful in deriving the contents of learning support functions that should be developed as well as providing basic information for prioritizing when applying AI technology to implement learner-centered LMS in the future.

Ecosystem service quality assessment with an application of revised Importance-Satisfaction Analysis - The case of Seoul, Korea - (수정된 중요도-만족도 분석(ISA)을 활용한 수요자 기반 생태계서비스 수준 평가 연구 - 서울시를 대상으로 -)

  • Ecosystem services (ES) are the benefits that people obtain from ecosystems. Traditional ES assessment methods have focused on the supply of ES, using biophysical data. However, these methods often fail to capture the full value of ES, which is also determined by social and cultural factors. This study proposes a new approach to ES assessment that incorporates socio-cultural perspectives. The study was conducted in Seoul, South Korea. A survey was conducted of 1,805 residents of Seoul to assess their satisfaction with ecosystem services. Exploratory factor analysis was used to identify bundles of ES that were perceived as important by residents. A revised importance-satisfaction analysis was used to calculate the urgency level of each bundle. The results of the study showed that the 21 ES that were considered in the survey could be grouped into three bundles: urban green area-based, biodiversity-based, and resilience-based. The urgency level analysis showed that some bundles were more important than others, and that some bundles were more urgent than others. The findings of this study have several implications. First, they suggest that a socio-cultural approach to ES assessment can provide a more comprehensive and accurate assessment of ES. Second, they show that this approach can be used to identify areas where ES management is most needed. Third, they suggest that this approach could be used to inform ES management and policy decisions.

  • The purposes of this study were to (1) examine the sub-dimensions of time management behaviors and satisfaction with time management, and (2) to identify the variables that can affect satisfaction with time management. Data was collected through an Internet survey answered by 611 working men and women. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and multiple linear regression analysis. As a result of the study, the sub-dimensions of time management behaviour were extracted into three subordinate categories, which were, planning, human relation orientation, and urgency. The sub-dimensions of the satisfaction with time management were extracted into three subordinate categories, which were, satisfaction with the management results, satisfaction with time distribution, and satisfaction of spare time. Management result satisfaction displayed a positive relationship with planning and work time. The satisfaction with time distribution displayed a positively relationship with planning, relations-intention, the level of education, and sleeping time, while displaying a negative relationship with work time. Also, Women tended to be more satisfied with time distribution than men. Finally, the satisfaction of spare time was positively related with age, while negatively related to urgency and work time.

In order to analyze the current state of electronic commerce technologies and relationships among them. this study has tried to gather experts' opinions using the Delphi method. For each major EC technology, this study has analyzed the current level. the technology scheme. the applicability, the economic influences of the EC technologies and the urgency of the technology development. This study will play a role of catalyser for the study of electronic commerce technologies and will provide guideline for future studies electronic commerce and information communication technology(ICT) diffusion.

Wireless Packet Scheduling Algorithm for OFDMA System Based on Time-Utility and Channel State

  • In this paper, we propose an urgency- and efficiency-based wireless packet scheduling (UEPS) algorithm that is able to schedule real-time (RT) and non-real-time (NRT) traffics at the same time while supporting multiple users simultaneously at any given scheduling time instant. The UEPS algorithm is designed to support wireless downlink packet scheduling in an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) system, which is a strong candidate as a wireless access method for the next generation of wireless communications. The UEPS algorithm uses the time-utility function as a scheduling urgency factor and the relative status of the current channel to the average channel status as an efficiency indicator of radio resource usage. The design goal of the UEPS algorithm is to maximize throughput of NRT traffics while satisfying quality-of-service (QoS) requirements of RT traffics. The simulation study shows that the UEPS algorithm is able to give better throughput performance than existing wireless packet scheduling algorithms such as proportional fair (PF) and modified-largest weighted delay first (M-LWDF), while satisfying the QoS requirements of RT traffics such as average delay and packet loss rate under various traffic loads.

  • Wireless Sensor Networks are widely applied for organizing real-time monitoring systems. Unlike general kinds of sensor networks, it is important to preferential send emergency data to the control server when urgent events are occurred. But IEEE 802.15.4 MAC protocol which is generally deployed for wireless sensor network does not support algorithm for urgency data handling. Therefore, we proposed a MAC protocol which consider the priority for the urgency data handling.
