  • Maglev is a non-contact traffic system in which cars are supported by magnetic force instead of wheels. This is a ground-breaking traffic system providing superior environmental friendliness and cost efficiency due to the minimal noise and vibration offered by its non-contacting nature. We study the present specification and performance of the low speed urban maglev system in Korea and other countries. After set up the test line, to success the "Commercialization of Korean Urban Maglev System" project, we establish proper requirement of maglev system in Korean environment on base of "Daejeon National Science Museum Maglev Establish Project".

  • In this paper, the design characteristics, the manufacturing process and the results of performance test on the AC traction motor for urban transit standard E.M.U which is newly developed with applying standardization specification will be introduced. It is reviewed that the design and performance analysis on conventional motors considering system correlation and design constraint and the design optimization through an analysis of electro-magnetic, thermal and dynamic properties. The properties of factory products manufactured by 200 Class VPI process exhibit a excellent performance with a lower noise and vibration, higher efficiency and power factor etc.

  • This paper proposes the Advanced Generic BOM(AGBOM) which is more flexible BOM system than existing GBOM. The existing GBOM system has the limitation of Result BOM construction and selecting options by choosing only one Variant under given Cluster. In order to overcome this limitation, AGBOM can make more various Result BOM by selecting several Variants under given Cluster. Also, this paper describes UT-AGBOM which can use to rolling stock through constructing urban transit BOM using the proposed AGBOM. The last, this paper describes the various Result BOM examples constructed from Source BOM of UT-AGBOM, such as rolling-stock maintenance BOM, individual car BOM, etc.

  • Purpose: Domestically, a recent controversial part on Mixed-Use Development is its case that utilizes railroad sites among urban infrastructure. but most of all, a concern is being concentrated on the Mixed-Use Development that uses railroad depot. It has the advantage, which can give diversity and publicness to urban environment by using and planing the upper and bottom of railroad depot, a proximity site as Development Available Land. However, there are few cases except for only Yang-cheon APT in SinJeong railway depot as a domestic case even though a domestic concern about Mixed-Use Development is rising more than ever. Method: Accordingly, this study has something in common with a domestic case, dealing with a case of development in Hongkong that enhances efficiency for city space through Mixed-Use Development and solves various urban problems. Result: A purpose of this study, based on overall comprehension about Rail and Property Model of MTRC in Hongkong, is to figure out how it solve various problems in Mixed-Use Development using Railway Depot or stations in the base of Rail and Property Model of MTRC.

  • Recently the roles of railways about the prevention of global warming caused by greenhouse gases and for low carbon green growth are larger than ever. And the railroad-related research institutions have been active in researching for energy conservation. Especially the urban railroad has been emerged as the best means of transportation compared to the general public transportation systems in punctuality, stability, ecology and etc. In operating the urban railroad system there are various ways for energy savings. In the larger category, One is the hardware aspect according to the structure of the vehicle and the development of control systems. The other is the software aspect which efficient train operation can be made through control of driving patterns and driving diagram. In this paper, there is sense to analyze the result in verifying expectation relation with variable and the use of electric power on this after selecting main variables that can influence to the energy of the train operation in the software aspect. First, after collecting the basic data related to operation(train speed, operating hours, power consumption, the position of stopping station, electrical power system etc.) and according to this, investigating the consumption of the energy of the operation, in the side of energy consumption deducing and analyzing problem, this will be found solutions.

  • The aims of the demand response market are stabilization of the power supply and improving of the reliability of the power system. The various applications of the energy storage system (ESS) in the railway systems are studied and implemented to raise the energy efficiency. It is one of the most important how to determine the obligation reduction capacity (ORC) in participation to the demand response market because it has an influence on the profit extremely. In this paper, when participating to the demand response market with demands in the urban railway, we calculated the available ORC and economically evaluated ESS based on the real load data.

  • In this paper, the diagnosis method for AC traction motor is to reduce their maintenance loads. We tried to apply this method to maintenance of traction motor in railway vehicle. Sample coils for stator of traction motor were tested by accelerative thermal degradation which composed of heat, vibration, moisture, and overvoltage applying. Reliability and expected life were evaluated on the insulation system for 200 class traction motor.

Finally, alleviate fare burden of customer through diversification of fare system service such as establishing point uniformly for railroad fare that introduce first in Japan JR Kyushu railroad and propose the improvement of management of railway operation organization through demand enlargement.

  • Universal Design involves designing products and spaces so that they can be used by the widest range of people possible. Universal Design evolved from Accessible Design, a design process that addresses the needs of people with disabilities. This paper introduces the universal design concept through analysis of causes of railway accident within the urban railway station. Railway accident analysis was performed by the internal facilities. We analyzed the standard of accident type, accident cause and accident subject such as elevator, escalator, stairs etc.

  • According to Urban Railroad Act, trains can be operated only after they take The Urban Transit Performance Test. There has been Performance Tests for the trains which has been manufactured since 2000, but it is nearly impossible to utilize the Performance Test results other than the original purpose due to the fact that they are not organized in detail, In addition, test steps have difficulty using the former test results. Thus, test results must be computerized and made into database to make the best use of them and to carry out efficient and dependable tests. For this purpose, this paper analyzes the task and the procedure of the performance test on trains. On the basis of the analysis results, this paper checks the availability of the computerized information and the possibility of improving the task concerned
