A Study on Prediction Model Conformity of Line Source in Urban Area (도시지역에서의 선오염원 예측모델 적합성에 관한 연구)

  • Despite the limitations and difficulty in the application of CALINE3 model for air dispersion prediction of roads and tunnels construction businesses in South Korea, the model is being used in all roads construction projects. This study compared the predicted values of CALINE3 and AERMOD model that is suggested by the US EPA, to the values of GRAL model, a Lagrangian particle tracking model developed in Europe, by applying the models to the existing roads of the urban areas. The result showed low relevance to the actual measurement value in the case of CALINE3 model, thus displaying a low trusted value when applying to the urban areas. In the case of using AERMOD model, the predicted values were overly expressed compared to the actual measurement value, thus leading to the need of adding a No2 conversion method to the model in the future. In the case of GRAL model, a Lagrangian particle tracking model, the relevance between the actual and predicted values were high as the model considers the surrounding topography and the buildings all together, thus confirming that the model can be used for air dispersion prediction of the roads in the urban areas. Lastly, the result of this study testing the air prediction models in Jeongneung Measuring Station points that it is necessary for the future studies to expand the testing areas and test the validity of the models continuously.

ANALYSIS OF ENVIRONMENTAL CHARACTERISTICS IN URBAN-TYPE PLANT FACTORY

  • The characteristics of $CO_2$ exchange between plant and human modules, absorption rate of NO$_2$, and growth of lettuce were examined in an urban-type plant factory(UPF). With 150 lettuce plants, $CO_2$ concentrations of plant module were 600 ~ 700$\mu$mol mol$^{-1}$ at average leaf weight of 130g.plant$^{-1}$ and 900~1100$\mu$mol.mol$^{-1}$ at 75g.plant$^{-1}$ for one and two persons' stay in the human module, respectively. When the air of 0.13, 0.30 and 0.45 $\mu$molㆍmol$^{-1}$ NO$_2$ in a human module was circulated ON/OFF 10/20min between the human and plant modules, $NO_2$ decrement in the chamber during 10 min was 0.040, 0.109, and 0.149 $\mu$mol, respectively. The lettuces grown at 0.45 $\mu$molㆍmol$^{-1}$ $NO_2$ during experimental period showed no significant differences in growth factors such as leaf width, leaf length, leaf area and fresh weigh, and in the quality between treated and control.

Effect of Plant Educational Programs Elementary School using Vertical Garden (수직정원을 활용한 초등학교 식물교육프로그램 운영 효과 분석)

  • In the modern era, the elementary schools in the Republic of Korea are advanced with the competitive world. Thus advancement in technology, and other factors in the elementary schools are releases some kind of particulate matter (PM), which causes deleterious effects on school students health, academic program, growth and development. The school students are susceptible to PM particularly, PM10 and PM2.5. Based on this hazardous effect of PM on school students we conducted the research on the elementary schools class rooms by introducing vertical gardening system to get the schools "ever green". The main aim of this study is to investigate the environmental factors in the educational effect program in the class rooms and indoor air quality changes. For the educational effect, the 4th operation program was applied to 2 schools for 2 hours once a month from September to December 2019. Each school conducted a survey on satisfaction, plant friendliness, and environmental sensibilities, targeting classes that participated in the green school program and those who did not. The environmental effects were monitored by installing indoor air quality facility in the program participating classes and the non-participating classes. From November 2019 to December 2019, three factors were measured: PM10, PM2.5, and humidity. The results were analyzed by T-test using the SPSS 24.0 software program. As a result of the analysis, student's overall satisfaction with the program and their intention to re-engage were high in terms of educational effect. It was also found to be effective in emotional, educational, social, and physical aspects. In particular, it was found that there was a statistically significant effect on improving plant friendliness in terms of plant friendliness and environmental sensitivity. In terms of environmental effects, it was found that there was a significant difference between the program-applied and non-programmed classes in PM10, PM2.5, and humidity. Through this study, it was confirmed that the plant education program using vertical gardens is effective in both the educational effect and the improvement of indoor air quality in the classroom. In conclusion, vertical gardening system in the elementary schools should implement for the beneficial of young generation development and back bone to the nation.

  • The basic of installing smart air cleaner in railway system is improvement of continuous real time sensing technologies. And building smart air cleaner in railway system with IT is needed. When smart air cleaner in railway system is developed, the installation of sensor which is for measuring air quality in the passenger room and setting revolution cycle of filter which is for removing fine dust is very important. In order to install it in a train which is now running, after making of standard test certification and verification of product's stability with enough self-test, application test will be performed.

  • The economy of I.R.Iran is so related to oil that has had many environmental problems especially air pollution in urban areas in recent years. Statistics show that most of the time, the condition of air quality is in crisis level especially during fall and winter seasons. Rapid and high population growth has had large amount of fossil fuels consumption in all sectors including transportation, industry, agriculture, residential and commercial and public services and air pollution and healthy problems. Iran's abundance of fossil fuel resources has tended to discourage the country's incentive to shift to cleaner alternative energy sources for its energy needs that must be considered in future programming. These are discussed in this paper.

Spatial Distribution of Air Pollution in the Ulsan Metropolitan Region (울산지역 대기오염 공간분포)

  • The spatial air pollution distribution of the Ulsan metropolitan region (UMR) was analyzed using monitoring data and high-resolution numerical simulations. A three-year (2011~2014) analysis for the average concentrations from the 13 air quality monitoring sites in the UMR showed that $SO_2$ and $PM_{10}$ levels in industrial regions were much higher than those in other regions, whereas spatial differences of $NO_2$ and CO concentrations were not significant. In particular, elevated $O_3$ concentrations were clearly found at urban sites near petrochemical complex area. Results from high-resolution simulations by CMAQ model performed for four months of 2012 showed large spatial variations in grid-average pollutant concentrations between industrial areas and other areas in the UMR, which displayed significant changes with wind pattern by season. It was noted that the increases of $SO_2$ and $PM_{10}$ levels were limited in costal industrial areas or over the area nearby the sea in all seasons. Modeled $O_3$ concentrations were quite low in industrial areas and main urban roads with large $NO_x$ emissions. However, the model presented that all pollutant concentrations were significantly increased in the urban residential areas near the industrial complexes in summer season with increase of southerly wind.

A study on the development of long time exposure $SO_2$ sampler (장기 노출 $SO_2$ 간이 샘플러 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The concentrations of $SO_2$ and $SO_3$ were measured to estimate a new developed long time exposure $SO_2$ sampler at Onsan industrial area considering the meteorological factors from June to October, 1992. The mean concentration of $SO_3$ by $PbO_2$ method was 0.924 mg $SO_3 / 10cm^2$ $PbO_2$/day and their high values were shown in the center of the industrial area, which show potential pollution due to the increase of industrial activities and micrometeorological factors in and around the sites. As a result of statistical correlation between $SO_2$ concentration by new sampling method and $SO_3$ concentration by $PbO_2$ method in July and August, 1992, correlation coefficients were high (r=0.87, 0.91) and shown more than 0.83 value in the high concentration data set, which was arbitrarily divided into 7~10${\mu}l$$SO_2$ concentration in an attempt to further investigate these relationships. Therefore, use of new developed long time exposure TEX>$SO_2$ sampler is good for TEX>$SO_2$ measurement and valuable for estimation of air quality in the urban and industrial area.   • The air quality data is important for understanding and analyzing a surrounding influence. In that light, it is positively necessary for a propriety assessment to determine a location of the air quality monitoring sites. In this study, the climate analysis about temperature and wind, using the meteorological data in the Pohang, is conducted to do that. In the next stage, we distinguished the wind by east-west or north-south component, which has less correlation than temperature, analyzed and divided the wind sector. As the result, the wind circumstance of the Pohang is divided into major 5 wind sector; that is the urban area, the northeast coastal area, the east ocean and the west mountainous area. We think that an analysis on detailed wind sector by utilizing the numerical simulation is needed.

  • More than 7 million persons use Seoul Metropolitan Subways (SMS) everyday and the number has been in increasing trend. With the increasing trend of concerns on indoor air quality(IAQ), the management of IAQ has become an important issue, especially in case of subway operators, because most of subway lines are placed underground with poor ventilation condition. The ultimate object of study develop independent cleaning device that reduce efficient fine particle and $CO_2$. Urban subway has characteristics about proper clean air flow, must be installed in narrow space and maintenance cycle has enough time. Two layered electrically pre-charged filters were used for removing particulate matters and gas absorbers are packed between two layer filters for removing gases pollutants such $CO_2$, VOCs and HCHO. Urban subway has characteristics about proper clean air flow, must be installed in narrow space and maintenance cycle has enough time. SCAP prototype is producted as all in one method which decrease fine dust, $CO_2$ and noxious gas. and basic test carry out with quantity of wind, a gap of pressure, sampling efficiency.

Effects of Physical Factors on Urban Surfaces on Air Quality - Chang Chun, China as an Example - (도시표면의 물리적 요소가 대기질에 미치는 영향 - 중국 창춘을 사례로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the main factors affecting air quality in urban physical space factors, and provide clues for environmental improvement. Nine monitoring stations in China's industrial city, Changchun, collected AQI concentration data from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2019. This paper analyzes the types and distribution characteristics of urban physical facilities within a radius of 300m with the detection station as the center. The monitoring station is divided into three groups, and the difference in floating dust concentration among the three groups in different seasons is analyzed. The results show that AQI concentration is the highest in spring and winter, followed by summer, and the lowest in autumn. The place with the highest concentrations of AQI in spring are F (93.00), D (91.10), I (89.20), in summer are D (69.05), A (67.89), B (84.44), in autumn are I (62.80), G (60.84), D (53.27), D (53.27), in winter are I (95.82), H (95.60), f (94.04). Through SPSS analysis, it shows that the air index in a space with a diameter of 600 meters is related to forest land, grassland, bare land, water space, tree height, building area (average value), and building volume (average value). According to the statistical analysis results of spring and winter with the most serious pollution, forest land area (43,637m2, 15.44%) and water surface area (18,736m2, 6.63%) accounted for the majority, and group 1 (A, B, C) with the least average building area (448m2, 0.17%) and average building volume (10,201m2) had the lowest pollution concentration. On the contrary, group 2 (D, E, F) had the highest AQI concentration, with less or no woodland (1,917m2, 0.68%) and water surface area (0m2, 0%), and the highest average building area (1,056m2, 0.37%) and average building volume (17,470m3). It is confirmed that the characteristics of the area with the highest AQI concentration are that the more the site ratio of tree height above 12m, the smaller the site ratio of bare land, and the lower the pollution degree. On the contrary, the larger the area of bare land, the higher the pollution degree. By analyzing the characteristics of nine monitoring stations in Changchun, it can be seen that the air quality brought by the physical characteristics of urban space is closely related to the above factors.
