  • The overpopulation phenomenon and complicated various daily life in the city can't presuppose a loss of lives and properties by fire as in today. Especially, mutual relation of buildings and road of the urban preventive dimenson share with important roles and function. This thesis analyses next two articles. First, this study examines improvement counterplan by urban preventive demention centering around theory. Second: as a case study through statistics of fire is Seoul Namdaemun market propose improvement plan in urban preventive dimension.

  • The Urban-type building is an building that it relaxed the construction standard and subsidiary facility standard. The most of the urban-type buildings are pilotis, the main case of representing these building's fire risk is the Uijeongbu fire this study investigated to piloti urban type housing risk on the basis of Uijeongbu fire, and we checked structural problem that unable to escape from the rooftop inside the piloti. also, there was confirmed limit to the evacuation of the occupants because the smoke was rapidly transferred to the top layer through inside the electric duct. and when we analyzed smoke flow use of Fire simulation, it was confirmed Available Safety Egress Time that is four minutes of CO.

  • As population grows and urban facilities are concentrated in specific areas due to recent urbanization and industrialization, cities have structures vulnerable to both natural and man-made disasters. Most of these structures, whether buildings or residential houses, are left in a defenseless state if not given the appropriate check-up before they are built. The process of rapid urbanization without establishing the proper urban fire risk assessment will surely lead to disasters. This phenomenon occurred during the process of rapid urbanization and maybe said the result of chaotic urban expansion where modern urban infrastructure is not yet equipped in the city. Under the said circumstances, propagation processes of Korean urban fire cases were investigated to establish fire risk assessment system. Moreover, this paper explains the experiment performed for establishing urban risk assessment model. The said experiment was conducted using the new urban fire risk assessment model.

  • Korea urbanized rapidly, and overpopulation with high growth of the economy has resulted in decrepit facilities scattered all cities. If there is a strong wind during a fire, the fire is rapidly spread by various factors. Korea cannot build a prediction model for urban fire combustion phenomena because there are no studies that physically explain the suitable flame phenomena for its buildings. This study built a model for the generation of fire brand and includes to scattering, fall, and ignition An experiment was done using the wind tunnel facilities of the Japanese Building Research Institute (BRI). The results were used to explain the behavior of fire brand, and reflected in the fire simulation model.

Study on Dispersion Characteristics for Fire Scenarios in an Urban Area Using a CFD-WRF Coupled Model (CFD-WRF 접합 모델을 이용한 도시 지역 화재 시나리오별 확산 특성 연구)

  • The characteristics of flow and pollutant dispersion for fire scenarios in an urban area are numerically investigated. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model coupled to a mesoscale weather research and forecasting (WRF) model is used in this study. In order to more accurately represent the effect of topography and buildings, the geographic information system (GIS) data is used as an input data of the CFD model. Considering prevailing wind, firing time, and firing points, four fire scenarios are setup in April 2008 when fire events occurred most frequently in recent five years. It is shown that the building configuration mainly determines wind speed and direction in the urban area. The pollutant dispersion patterns are different for each fire scenario, because of the influence of the detailed flow. The pollutant concentration is high in the horse-shoe vortex and recirculation zones (caused by buildings) close to the fire point. It thus means that the potential damage areas are different for each fire scenario due to the different flow and dispersion patterns. These results suggest that the accurate understanding of the urban flow is important to assess the effect of the pollutant dispersion caused by fire in an urban area. The present study also demonstrates that CFD model can be useful for the assessment of urban environment.

  • Although the urban rail vehicle is exposed to the fire disaster, most country, except only a few advanced country, is insufficient to take a measure against the fire accident. Safety regulation modification, fire safety standard of the materials. and each material's fire resistance of the rail vehicle have been upgraded until the Daegu fire disaster in Korea. For that reason, In this study, current techniques of fire safety evaluation are analyzed and fire safety degrees of rail vehicles are compared with the change of interiors which is met to the fire safety standard of urban rail vehicle.
