The crystallinity and dyeability of PET filament were studied when the conditions of drawing and heat-setting were varied. The crystaltinity of PET filament was increased as the drawing ratio and heatsetting temperature were increased. The dye uptake and dyeing rate of PET filament were decreased as the drawing ratio was increased. With increasing the heat-setting temperature, however, the dye uptake and dyeing rate were decreased at an early stage, showing the minimum at $160^{\circ}C-180^{\circ}C$ and then increased above that temperature. The thermal shrinkage of PET filament was decreased as the drawing ratio was increased, while increasing as the heat-setting temperature was increased.
In an effort to assess the internal absorbed dose of radionuclides that is suitable to Koreans' physiological characteristics, we asked 28 male Koreans to take $^{131}|$ orally, determined the thyroidal uptake and daily urination ratio, and assessed the absorbed dose by organ. As a result, first, 24 hours after administering, the average thyroidal uptake and the daily urination ratio registered 19.70% and 71.12%, respectively. Second, the whole body effective dose according to the thyroidal uptake calculated herein and the existing ICRP-suggested thyroidal uptake of 30% offered 1.464E-08 Sv and 2.189E-08 Sv, respectively, showing a 1.5 times difference. To evaluate the quantity of the absorbed dose of radioactive iodine, we can better reduce the error in assessing the body exposure dose by conducting measurement according to human races rather than depending on the existing ICRP data.

This study was aimed to know the effect of cadmium chloride (CdCl₂) on glucose transport in L6 myotube and its action mechanism. CdCl₂ increased the 2-deoxy- (l-3H)-D-glucose (2-DOG) uptake 1.9 and 2.4 fold at 10 and 25 μM respectively. To investigate the stimulating-mechanism of glucose transport induced by CdCl₂, the wortmannin and PD98059 were used as PI3K (phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase) inhibitor and MAPK inhibitor respectively, which did not affect 2-DOG uptake. This fact suggests that CdCl₂ induced 2-DOG uptake may not be concerned to the insulin signalling pathway. Whereas nifedipine, a calcium channel blocker, and trifluoperazine, a calmodulin inhibitor, were found to inhibit the 2-DOG uptake stimulted by CdCl₂. In addition, we also measured the ROS (reactive oxygen species) production and GSH level in L6 myotube to investigate the correlation between the glucose uptake and ROS. CdCl₂(25 μM) increased ROS generation approximately 1.5 fold and changed the cellular GSH level, but GSSG/GSH ratio remained unchanged. CdCl₂ stimulated 2-DOG uptake and ROS generation were inhibited by N-acetylcystein. And BSO pretreatment, a potent inhibitor of γ-GCS, resulted in the dramatic decrease of 2-DOG uptake and also the increase of the sensitivity to cadmium cytotoxicity. The obtained results suggest that CdCl₂-stimulated glucose uptake might be based on the activation of HMP shunt as an antioxidant defense mechanism of the cells.
Absorption of $\textrm{Pb}^{2-}$ from aqueous solution was studied using Staphylococcus epidermidis. Cells of exponential phase were employed as absorbents. Uptake ratio defined as the ratio of amount of $\textrm{Pb}^{2+}$ absorbed to that of initial $\textrm{Pb}^{2+}$. Absorption of $\textrm{Pb}^{2+}$ increased with increase in cell concentration. while amount of $\textrm{Pb}^{2+}$ per unit cell mass decreased. Uptake ratio of $\textrm{Pb}^{2+}$ augmented and then diminished after exhibiting a maximum as the pH of the solution increased. Equilibrium absorption of $\textrm{Pb}^{2+}$ deviated from Freundlich isotherm especially at higher concentration of $\textrm{Pb}^{2+}$ due to the precipitation phenomena. HCI and EDTA were founded to desorb $\textrm{Pb}^{2+}$ more effectively than $\textrm{Na}_{2}\textrm{CO}_{3}$ or $\textrm{NaHCO}_{3}$. After 10 cycles of absorption and desorption. $\textrm{Pb}^{2+}$ absorption capability remained almost unchanged and the biomass had leaked out 30-40 wt/%. Uptake ratio of Pb2+ decreased in the presence of other heavy metal ions due to the competitive absorption The inhibition of $\textrm{Pb}^{2+}$ absorption appeared to have a strong correlation with ionic radius of the competing ions. Especially $\textrm{Cr}^{3-}$, $\textrm{Co}^{2+}$ or $\textrm{Fe}^{2+}$ having smaller ionic radius depressed more significantly the uptake of $\textrm{Pb}^{2+}$ than any other metal ions tested.
High initial (2 minutes after iv injection) brain-uptake of PET agents is required to deliver the agent to binding sites in brain tissue but, for quantification of the specific binding, relatively rapid washout of free and non-specifically bound PET agents from the brain (30 minutes after injection) also is required. In order to compare the physicochemical properties of the PET agents which are responsible for early brain-uptake and rapid washout, respectively, chemometric analysis on brain-uptake of PET agents was performed via a classical VolSurf approach. According to the PCA and PLS results, high 2-30 min brain-uptake ratio seems to be related to the large hydrophobic regions in the PET agents which are not confined to a particular surface.
The effects of salinity on various ecophysiological parameters of Ulva pertusa such as growth, nutrient uptake, photosynthetic performance and internal nutrient composition were tested. U. pertusa was collected from an eelgrass bed in a semi-protected embayment on the southwest coast of Korea. Under salinity regimes from 5 to 40 psu, the specific growth rates $(\mu)$ of U. pertusa ranged from 0.019 to $0.032\;d^{-1}$. Maximum growth rate was observed at 20 psu, and minimum at 40 psu. This species showed various uptake rates for nitrate and phosphate. Nutrient uptake was noticeably higher at intermediate salinity levels, and lower at both extremes. Salinity significantly influenced chlorophyll-$\alpha$ content and effective quantum yield. Tissue nitrogen content ranged from 1.5 to 2.9% N (dry weight), whereas tissue phosphorus ranged from 0.1 to 0.14% P (dry weight). The N : P ratio in the tissue of U. pertusa was considerably higher, ranging from 30 to 50. Increased growth at lower salinity suggests that the initial growth rate of U. pertusa is greater during the rainy season (i.e., late spring and early summer) than any other season during the year. The appearance of an Ulva bloom in eelgrass beds may be triggered by salinity more than by other environmental factors such as light and temperature.
In this study, the properties such as color, dye uptake and antibacterial function were examined through the application of combination dyeing and mixed dyeing with extracts from Humulus japonicus(hwansam) and the pruned branches of Prunus persica(peach) tree. In terms of dye uptake and surface color changes subject to the kind of mordants, methods and mixing ratio of dye, it was found that fabrics dyed by the pre-mordanting method with $CuSO_4$ showed the red green yellow group colors, which were not seen in fabrics dyed with hwansam only. Color fastness was found strong at grade 4-5 with 96.3% of UV protection ratio. While the fastness to light was as fair as grade 3, it showed an excellent result of 99.9% bacteria reduction rate against Staphylococcus aureus with fair 58% deodorization rate and 21.2% antibacterial rate against Klebsiella pneumoniae. As stated above, the combination and mixed dyeing resulted in the meaningful outcomes with regard to color variations, dye uptake, color fastness and functional properties.
Nitrogen cycling was in vestigated in Piuns koraiensis plantations with different ages, 1, 2, 3, 6, 9 and 11 years, which were reforested after clear-cutting. Annual N input by bulk precipitation was 10kg., and output by runoff decreased as the plantation aged, especially in-N. The standing N content of the whole vegetation increased approximately 5 times through 11 years. Understory surpassed P. koraiensis plants in the distribution of standing N content for the initial 9 years, but reversed thereafter. Annual N uptake of P. koraiensis plants increased greatly through 11 years, but that of understory increased somewhat until 9 years and decreased thereafter. The maximum N uptake of the whole vegetation was made in the 9-yr-old plantation. In the 1-yr-old one, 59% of the maximum was already absorbed by understory which mainly consisted to herbs. The recycling coefficient, ratio of annual return to rptake, of the whole vegetation decreased as the plantation aged and the value of understory was greater than that of P koraiensis plants. On the contrary, the N use efficiency, ratio of the net primary production to N uptake, of the whole vegetation increased as the plantation aged and the value of understory was less than that of P. koraiensis plants. Consequently, it is emphasized that understory played an important role in such plantation reforesred after clear-cutting for the initial 9 years.

Objective Our aim was to compare the compression quality, exercise intensity, and energy expenditure in 5-minute single-rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) using 15:1 or 30:2 compression-to-ventilation (C:V) ratios or chest compression only (CCO). Methods This was a randomized, crossover manikin study. Medical students were randomized to perform either type of CPR and do the others with intervals of at least 1 day. We measured compression quality, ratings of perceived exertion (RPE) score, heart rate, maximal oxygen uptake, and energy expenditure during CPR. Results Forty-seven students were recruited. Mean compression rates did not differ between the 3 groups. However, the mean percentage of adequate compressions in the CCO group was significantly lower than that of the 15:1 or 30:2 group ($31.2{\pm}30.3%$ vs. $55.1{\pm}37.5%$ vs. $54.0{\pm}36.9%$, respectively; P<0.001) and the difference occurred within the first minute. The RPE score in each minute and heart rate change in the CCO group was significantly higher than those of the C:V ratio groups. There was no significant difference in maximal oxygen uptake between the 3 groups. Energy expenditure in the CCO group was relatively lower than that of the 2 C:V ratio groups. Conclusion CPR using a 15:1 C:V ratio may provide a compression quality and exercise intensity comparable to those obtained using a 30:2 C:V ratio. An earlier decrease in compression quality and increase in RPE and heart rate could be produced by CCO CPR compared with 15:1 or 30:2 C:V ratios with relatively lower oxygen uptake and energy expenditure.
The objective of this study is to investigate the characteristics of natural indigo dyeing of cotton fabric. Reduction and dyeing were carried out by one-step process using an infrared dyeing machine at the liquor ratio of 1:100, and subsequently oxidation and washing in water were followed. Dye uptake was increased with the increase of indigo concentration. Over the full range of dyeing tests, the dyeing condition was optimized to $40^{\circ}C$ for 40min. For most of dye concentrations, the cotton fabrics showed mainly PB color. Maximum K/S value was shown at 4g/L of sodium hydrosulfite concentration and the color strength increased with the increase of dye concentration. Value(lightness) decreased with the increase of dye uptake irrespective of mercerization or reduction method, while the mercerized cotton showed two times higher dye uptake than the untreated cotton. Whereas hue of the untreated cotton showed large decrease of P character(5.6~3.5 PB) with the increase of dye uptake, that of the mercerized cotton increased P character(4.7~5.5 PB). Irrespective of mercerization, value and chroma decreased with the increased of dye uptake. In addition, the untreated showed lower chroma than the mercerized cotton. In the case of traditional reduction, hue of the untreated cotton was changed very little with the increase of dye uptake. For hydrosulfite reduction, P character decreased with the increase of dye uptake. The difference of hue value was small with the change of reduction method(hydrosulfite reduction or traditional fermentation). Color character was not influenced by the changed maximum absorption wavelength. Washing fastness showed 4~4/5 shade change rating without any staining. And dry rubbing fastness was good at low color strength. The bacterial reduction ratios of dyed cotton fabric were also increased.
