  • Sacral schwannoma is a rare lesion with a tendency to reach large proportions. The benign schwannoma rarely involves the vertebral bodies extensively. The authors report a case of giant intrasacral schwannoma in 30-year-old woman who had intermittent lower back pain during 3 years period. CT and MRI showed a destructive mass lesion within the upper part of sacrum with a large mass extending into the presacral space. The patient underwent combined surgery consisted of anterior transabdominal approach and posterior sacral laminectomy and total removal of tumor. The characteristics of the lesion were discussed with a review of literatures.

  • A castrated male, 9-year-old Yorkshire terrier was presented with a depression and bilateral hind limbs lameness. On physical examinations, upper motor neuron signs and stiffness of the hind limbs, back pain and progressive paresis were identified. Marked periosteal new bone formations and lysis include the first lumbar vertebra to the sacrum, bilateral iliums acetabulums and bilateral femoral heads were observed in survey radiographs. After death with septicemia suspected, renal infarction and the 5th vertebral osteomyelitis include pelvic periostitis were diagnosed in histological examination.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of fatigue, caused by frequent manual lifting. on lifting velocity and lifting acceleration. Ten male volunteers performed lifting at a rate of 4 times per minute, continuously, for two hours using the free-style posture A box($30cm{\times}30cm{\times}20$) with a fixed weight (15.9 Kg) was used as the load for lifting, Heart rate, oxygen consumption, and EMG were also measured to estimate the level of fatigue, The posture as well as acceleration was recorded. The results showed that the lifting acceleration at the end of two hour increased significantly (20%, p<0.001) compared to the acceleration after fifteen minutes of lifting. It was also found that subjects changed their lifting postures as the result of fatigue. All subjects also indicated pain in their upper legs and the lower back at the conclusion of the experiment.

  • The diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy had been performed by electrophysiologic studies and neurologic examination. However, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has recently been proposed as a supplementary tool for its diagnosis. A 55-year-old woman presented with back pain and painful proximal weakness of the right leg. Neurologic examination and electrophysiologic studies suggested an upper lumbar plexopathy. MRI disclosed the signal change in lumbar plexus with the atrophy of the innervating muscles. We report a patient with idiopathic lumbar plexopathy confirmed by MRI.

  • The sex/gender of gastroenterologists impact patients' satisfaction, compliance, and clinical outcomes. For instance, female gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopist-patient gender concordance improves health-related outcomes. This finding suggests that it is important to increase the number of female GI endoscopists. While the number of women in the field of gastroenterology is increasing in the United States and Korea by over 28.3%, it is not enough to account for the gender preferences of female patients. GI endoscopists are at a high risk of endoscopy-related injuries. However, there is a different distribution of muscle and fat; male endoscopists are more affected in their back, while females are more affected in the upper extremities. Women are more susceptible to endoscopy-related injuries than men. There is a correlation between the number of colonoscopies performed and musculoskeletal pain. Job satisfaction is lower in young female gastroenterologists (30' and 40') than in the opposite gender and other ages. Thus, it is important to address these issues in the development of GI endoscopy.
