  • Closed-die forging of the spur gears with circular are fillet has been analyses by using the upper-bound method. A kinematically admissible velocity field has been developed, wherein, the tooth profile consists of the involute curve and the circular arc fillet. In the analysis, the deformation regions have been divided into eight zones. A constant frictional stress has been assumed on the contacting surfaces Utilizing the formulated velocity field, numerical calculations have been carried out to investigate the effects of various parameters, such as module, number of teeth, addendum modification coefficient and friction factor, on the relative forging pressure of spur gears. As the result of numerical calculations, the relative forging pressure does not change so much against the variation of module. On the other hand, the relative forging pressure increases at the final filling stage as the addendum modification coefficient increases.

  • The Mantle cell lymphoma(MCL) is a relatively rare subtype of malignant lymphoma characterized by chromosomal translocation t(11 ; 14)(q13 ; q32), positive response for CD5, and nuclear cyclin D1. It is account for an estimated 3-6% of all non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The involvement of extra-nodal site is not uncommon, whereas salivary glands are rarely affected. It is more commonly occurred in men and old age and approximately 75% of cases are diagnosed with advanced stage. It is usually characterized by an aggressive clinical course, and the prognosis is poorer than other type of head and neck lymphoma. We recently encountered a 69-year-old female with mass in parotid tail and upper neck, and it was diagnosed as mantle cell lymphoma. We report the unique case with a review of literature.

  • Adult Dungeness crabs are restricted primarily in the lower part of Glacier Bay, Alaska, but the interaction of larval dispersion and adult distribution is unknown. To understand the larval occurrence in the upper part of Glacier Bay, Dungeness crab larvae, sea surface temperature (SST), and sea surface salinity (SSS) were collected at 16 near-shore and 12 mid-channel stations in Glacier Bay, southeastern Alaska during six sampling periods from March through August 2000. Each station was visited from one to five times during the entire sampling period. Geographic Information System (GIS) was used to contour SST and SSS distribution in Glacier Bay. Seven to 27 stations were visited during each sampling period. Most larvae (85% were zoeae I) occurred during May 31 to June 14, 2000. Larval density varied from none to $51.4\;100\;m^{-3}$ between stations. A few later stage larvae occurred during later sampling periods. Overall, no relationship between larval densities, and SSS, and SST existed. Larvae occurring in the upper bay were probably transported by tidal currents from the lower bay; adult Dungeness crabs in Glacier Bay have a relatively high density near the mouth of the bay but decrease sharply around 40km north of the mouth. The lack of adult crabs in the upper 60km of the bay may be related to lower salinity, resulting in sharp haloclines, or colder temperatures which are not conducive to survival or growth of either larvae or adults.

  • Field experiment was conducted to find out the cause of calcium deficiency of burley tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.), Liming materials and application rate were CaSO4 : Ca 35kg/10a, CaCO3 : 35kg/10a and agricultural lime : Ca 142kg/10a. The breakdown in tissues at tips and margins of upper leaves was developed at maximum growth stage. If complete breakdown and death does not occur and growth takes place later, giving the leaf a scalloped appearance. Upper leaves contained lower calcium content than other leaves. The stem and midvein of calcium deficient plants contained lower calcium and calcium minus oxalic acid, but higher oxalic acid contents than those of normal plant. Fresh leaves of limed plot contained higher calcium and oxalic acid, but not significant increment of calcium minus oxalic acid than those of unlimed plot. Since calcium oxalate is insoluble, it could precipitate within the culls if the calcium and oxalic acid are accessible to each other. It suggest that high level of oxalic acid in stem and midvein could be interfering with translocation of calcium to upper leaves.

  • The experiment was carried out in order to investigate the development of vascular bundles and air spaces of rice internode, and its relationships to the panicle characteristics of rice varieties. The results obtained were as follows; The number of total vascular bundles in upper 1st internode was significantly different among varieties, but there was no remarkable differences among varieties and nodal positions below the 2nd internode. In the 5th internode 21-31 air spaces according to varieties was developed, however, no air space was found in upper 1st and 2nd internodes at maturing stage. Significant varietal difference of air space was observed in upper 4th internode. The number of vascular bundles, internodal thickness were positively correlated with panicle length, the number of rachis branches, and the spikelets in rice varieties.

  • In this study, an experiment in the field was performed to analyze the variations of rebound ratios of SFRS with silica fume after fabricating the panels and placing the plain concrete of simulting a base rock with thickness 7cm. And the experimental parameters which are the reinforcing methods(steel fiber, wire mesh), steel fiber contents(0.0%, 0.5%, 0.75%, 1.0%), silica fume contents(0.0%, 10.0%), and the three parts(lower, middle, upper part) were chosen. According to the results of the lower part in this test, the larger the fiber contents are in case of steel fiber reinforced shotcrete, the less the rebound ratios are within the range of 20~35%, compared to the wire-mesh reinforced shotcrete with silica fume content of 10%, and these results are true of the middle and upper part, respectively. In addition, the four-stage phenomena of the rebound of SFRS were estimated on the base of a series of the test results.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the stability of the design criteria recommended by Betram and Terzaghi as compared with the experimental result. A series of NEF tests was conducted to determine the loss of volume in base soils. The three kinds of base soils classified as CL, SC and SM are used for the NEF tests with various hydraulic pressures and filters following upper and lower bond of the criteria. Volume loss characteristics of the base soils was examined closely by the results of the test successfully. Firstly, it was found that the loss of base soils was mostly eroded at the first stage of seepage. Secondly, the amount of loss volume was ranked CL > SM > SC in order of their amounts for upper criteria, and SM > CL > SC orderly for lower criteria. Thirdly, the volume loss of all soils was increased with increasing the hydraulic pressures. And lastly, the needs of the new design criteria was proved for the control of seepage and piping.
