This paper presents some chain ratio-type estimators for estimating finite population variance using two auxiliary variables in two phase sampling set up. The expressions for biases and mean squared errors of the suggested c1asses of estimators are given. Asymptotic optimum estimators(AOE's) in each class are identified with their approximate mean squared error formulae. The theoretical and empirical properties of the suggested classes of estimators are investigated. In the simulation study, we took a real dataset related to pulmonary disease available on the CD with the book by Rosner, (2005).

A lossless transport of an arbitrary waveform in a frequency range of 106-109 Hz through a conduction channel in a cryogenic temperature is of importance for a high-speed operation of quantum device. However, it is hard to use a commercial oscilloscope to directly detect the waveform travelling in a device located in a cryogenic system. Here, we developed a cryogenic voltage sampling technique by using a Schottky barrier gate prepared on a surface of a GaAs/AlGaAs device, which revealed that an incident rectangle waveform can transport through a 1 mm long two-dimensional conduction channel without waveform deformation up to 20 MHz, while further study is needed to increase the detection frequency.

This study was carried out to find out any inherent problems occurring in the sampling and analytical procedures, and to suggest the relevant solutions to the problems. In addition, an optimal condition of clean-up process was developed, which was based on a method using silica glass column. As a result of experiments to test any artificial contamination of blank samples such as glassware and collection media, artifacts of DBP and DEHP appeared to be detected in various kinds of laboratory tools and apparatuses used in the sampling and analytical works. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate a degree of contamination before laboratory works by conducting a prior check any possible contaminations in all experimental tools and apparatus. It is also necessary to devise a method to avoid a tool, if possible, or to use a substitute of phthalate free. If the use of any plastic tool to cause contamination is inevitable, it should be properly corrected with a blank level, as is equally treated as the sample. The clean-up process demonstrated in this study can give us a significant benefit in terms of the quantity and quality of a target compound by GC/MS analysis.

For the treatment of regulatory clearance of the soils, a procedure for the radionuclides and radioactivity concentration analysis is under development. A strategy for soil sampling including random sampling after homogenization and standardization was set up. Statistical representativeness is considered for not only sampling strategy but also sample size. In this study, designed sample size was designed with confidence interval and error bound of soil using the pilot samples which were taken following the sampling strategy.
An attempt was made to determine some trace metals in highly concentrated samples using micro sampling technique in flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Major instrumental parameters and optimun analytical conditions investigated were the measuring time of instrument (the speed of electronics), sample volume, burner height, aspiration rate, and fuel to oxidant ratio. Advantages of the present technique are not only rapid, simple, and sensitive with good precision but also capability of analyzing small volume of sample and ability to handle highly concentrated samples without serious burner clog-up problem compared to conventional flame atomic absorption.
The university president direct election system in Korea had begun in 1987 as a movement of college democratization in the 1980s after 6.29 Declaration. Since then, many national/private universities had adopted the election system. However, it has posed many problems and it caused a sharp division of opinions between those who approve and disapprove the direct election system. Since 2005, the government has made official of the reformation and/or abolition of the university president direct election system, and has kept pushing for universities to give up the direct election system. Now, only 3 or 4 universities hold on to the system, and many universities have changed into the indirect election system. In the indirect election, a key is the composition of president nomination committee, which confirms the university members's variety. Many universities adopting the indirect election system have used simple random sampling, like drawing lots, to compose the president nomination committee. However, drawing lots has a problem that it has large possibility of composing a biased committee. This research suggests systematic sampling as an alternative to drawing lots. A numerical analysis was conducted using a data of a university in which the indirect election was implemented recently. The drawing lots gave the biased nomination committee. On the other hand, the systematic sample improves the problem and confirms more the variety of all members.
The main idea of the framework is to seamlessly combine a reasonably accurate and fast surrogate model with the importance sampling strategy. Developing a surrogate model for predicting structures' dynamic responses is challenging because it involves high-dimensional inputs and outputs. For this purpose, a novel surrogate model based on cutting-edge deep learning architectures specialized for capturing temporal relationships within time-series data, namely Long-Short term memory layer and Transformer layer, is designed. After being properly trained, the surrogate model could be utilized in place of the finite element method to evaluate structures' responses without requiring any specialized software. On the other hand, the importance sampling is adopted to reduce the number of calculations required when computing the failure probability by drawing more relevant samples near critical areas. Thanks to the portability of the trained surrogate model, one can integrate the latter with the Importance sampling in a straightforward fashion, forming an efficient framework called TTIS, which represents double advantages: less number of calculations is needed, and the computational time of each calculation is significantly reduced. The proposed approach's applicability and efficiency are demonstrated through three examples with increasing complexity, involving a 1D beam, a 2D frame, and a 3D building structure. The results show that compared to the conventional Monte Carlo simulation, the proposed method can provide highly similar reliability results with a reduction of up to four orders of magnitudes in time complexity.
In the machine learning techniques, the sampling strategy of the training data affects a performance of the prediction model such as generalizing ability as well as prediction accuracy. Especially, in landslide susceptibility analysis, the data sampling procedure is the essential step for setting the training data because the number of non-landslide points is much bigger than the number of landslide points. However, the previous researches did not consider the various sampling methods for the training data. That is, the previous studies selected the training data randomly. Therefore, in this study the authors proposed several different sampling methods and assessed the effect of the sampling strategies of the training data in landslide susceptibility analysis. For that, total six different scenarios were set up based on the sampling strategies of landslide points and non-landslide points. Then Random Forest technique was trained on the basis of six different scenarios and the attribute importance for each input variable was evaluated. Subsequently, the landslide susceptibility maps were produced using the input variables and their attribute importances. In the analysis results, the AUC values of the landslide susceptibility maps, obtained from six different sampling strategies, showed high prediction rates, ranges from 70 % to 80 %. It means that the Random Forest technique shows appropriate predictive performance and the attribute importance for the input variables obtained from Random Forest can be used as the weight of landslide conditioning factors in the susceptibility analysis. In addition, the analysis results obtained using specific sampling strategies for training data show higher prediction accuracy than the analysis results using the previous random sampling method.

Pest monitoring through field surveys and surveillance helps in forecasting the population build up of pest. It reduces the load of pesticides application and forms the basis of Integrated Pest Management in sericulture. Common sampling techniques for quantifying pest populations and damage caused by them are reviewed emphasizing the need for quick and simple sampling methods. Various direct and indirect sampling methods for establishing pest populations are discussed and methods have been discussed to use indirect sampling method under IPM programme in sericulture. The use of pheromone lures and traps forms one of the important ingredients of integrated pest management, which calls for integration of all available methods in a cost effective and environmental friendly manner offering consistent efficacy. Silk-worms feed on the variety of silk host plants and spin cocoons. Each silk host plant is attacked in the field by number of insect pest species. Several pests are common to mulberry, tasar, oak tasar, muga and eri host plant but pest status and seasonal abundance differs from each crop. The key pests are serious perennially occurring persistent species which cause considerable yield loss every year on large areas and require control measure. Regular occurrence of minor pest is noticed but sudden increase in its population is not known. The occasional pests are sporadic but potential causing sufficient damage. Silk losses due to attack of all the pests have not been calculated. However, information on pest biology and ecology, and control practices being practiced is available but the period of outbreak of major pests and predators on silkworms and its host plant needs to be reinvestigated. Pest and predators forecasting based on surveillance information may provide an opportunity to minimize the losses, particularly to reduce expenditure involved in pest management.

Up until now, attempts to produce computer instruments have been largely focused on two types of sampling methods and physical modeling. Since the sampling method removes much of the harmonics in the sampling process, the effect of exciter that emphasizing the harmonic of the strings are mini. However, the physical modeling method can produce a lot of harmonics, and by emphasizing the harmonics of a particular frequency band among these harmonics, it is possible to produce a sound more like a lively sound. In this paper, we propose a method of using white noise in realizing exciter emphasizing harmonics of pre - specified frequency band in prefectural physical modeling. And comparing the envelope and spectrum of the Gayageum sound, we confirmed that the physical modeling method with the exciter is more suitable for the actual Gayageum sound than the sampling method and the conventional physical modeling method.
