  • This research aims to explore faculty research support systems in university libraries, assess their service performance for faculty research, and suggest the need and roadmap for new service development. We perform in-depth analyses of not only the current university library evaluation criteria as part of the overall university evaluation criteria, but also ten university libraries in the United States and two university libraries in Korea. Thorough benchmarking studies reveal the problems of the current university library evaluation criteria in its advances and limitations of current faculty support service systems. Especially this research suggests to develop a one-stop service execution wheel for the roadmap for the faculty research support system which is based on customer relationship management(CRM) for one-to-one, mass-personalized services to the faculty.

  • The aim of this study is to develop a plan for university library evaluation with factors and their systems, and an evaluation process, based on the Korean University Library Promotion Act. This study adopts a consensus based method including open-ended interviews with various stakeholders around university libraries, a questionnaire survey, a public hearing, and numerous discussions with the stakeholders. Balanced Scorecard is adopted as a basic framework for the development of evaluation system, provides a balanced perspective on the whole aspects in the university library management, including factors and performances in the management, The proposed plan in this study is expected to help to examine whether the resources are used for reaching the goals in the libraries, and to contribute the growth of the university libraries.

  • Universities contribute to the development of the country and society by cultivating professional manpower with knowledge and qualifications as democratic citizens through education and research activities. To this end, the government is improving the basic capabilities of universities and supporting autonomous innovation through university financial support projects. Since the financial support project differentially supports the government's finances limited to universities with a comparative advantage through fair evaluation, the role and function of the university library, a basic educational facility and core institution that supports education and research, is important. However, university libraries have not been able to actively participate in the government's financial support projects due to financial and manpower shortages, poor environments such as facilities, facilities, and spaces, and low participation rates for students. Therefore, this study investigated and analyzed the program operation cases of 18 university libraries in which libraries participated among 45 universities selected for the ACE project (2010-2016), derived problems and implications, and questioned the roles and achievements of university libraries. Based on the results, strategies and measures to be considered by university libraries in preparation for the government's university financial support projects were proposed.

  • This research aims to analyze the recent status and problems of scholarly information service supporting lectures and research project activities for faculties in Korean university libraries, and to explore the current issues of same fields in U.S. advanced university libraries. Notably, this research suggested considerations for a new model of scholarly information service which is based on web 2.0(/library 2.0) supporting lectures and research project activities for faculties appropriate to Korea university libraries.

  • This study aims to suggest desirable means to resolve conflicts in university libraries by measuring conflict levels and by revealing the causes of the conflicts with reference to the conflict level indices which were selected by university library staff. In order to attain the research objectives, a total of 36 university libraries (24 private universities and 12 public universities) were selected. Questionnaires were distributed to 739 library staff members and 515 answer sheets were collected. Among them, 512 sets of answers were taken as data for this research. Six hypotheses were tested through frequency analysis, correlation analysis, and step-by-step regression analysis using SPSS 12.0.

  • The purpose of this study was to present a content curation strategy of the university library to support user learning and research. As a method to achieve the purpose of the study, first, the concept of content curation was examined through literature research. After that, implications were found by analyzing the cases of content curation services such as university libraries, national libraries, and content companies. As a result of the study, five strategies for successful content curation of university libraries were proposed: providing high quality contents, performing preemptive information service roles, keep content up to date, securing interactivity through user participation, and developing personalization algorithms.

  • Development of infrastructure component libraries is a critical requirement for the accelerated adoption of BIM in the civil engineering sector. Libraries reduce the time for BIM model creation, allows accurate quantity take offs, and shared use of standard models in a project. However, such libraries are currently in very short supply in the domestic infrastructure domain. This research introduces library components for retaining walls and box culverts generated from 2D standard drawings made publicly available by MOLIT. Commercial BIM software was used to create the concrete geometry and rebar, and dimensional/volumetric parameters were defined to maximize the reuse and generality of the libraries. Use of the these libraries in a project context demonstrates that they allow accurate and quick quantity take offs, and easier management of geometric information through the use of a single library as to numerous 2D drawings. It also demonstrates the easy modification of the geometries of the components if and when they need to changed. However, the application also showed that some of the rebar components (stirrups and length wise rebars) do not get properly updated when concrete geometries are changed, demonstrating the limits of current software applications. The research provides evidence of the many advantages of using BIM libraries in the civil engineering, thus providing the incentive for further development of standard libraries and promoting the use of BIM in infrastructure projects.

  • After the pandemic, universities are shifting to distance learning, and the information use environment of libraries is rapidly changing. Therefore, there is a need for academic libraries to provide learning and research support services to users in response to these changes. This study analyzed the following contents, focusing on the contents of online services of academic libraries in order to understand the services provided by academic libraries after the pandemic, 1) the current status of online information services provided by 60 academic libraries at domestic and foreign and 2) the experience and requirements for using the online information services of academic library were investigated. As a result of the study, academic libraries at domestic and foreign responded to the untact environment by providing various online information services and users showed high experience and requirements for the electronic resource service and online user education service of academic libraries after the outbreak of the pandemic. Based on the analysis of the current status of online information services provided by domestic and foreign academic libraries after the outbreak of the pandemic, as well as the experiences and requirements of university students, several strategies were proposed to improve the quality of university education and library online information services and to plan services that respond to user needs.

  • As the research environment, such as Open Science, has recently changed, the scope of research support services conducted by university libraries is also expanding. In particular, there is a movement that needs to develop research support services of university libraries that are suitable for this through a clear understanding of the research life cycle centering on overseas. The purpose of this study is to provide suggestions that university libraries can refer to when developing research support services that can systematically support all phases of the research life cycle. To this end, the research life cycle was divided into five stages, "planning," "project," "publishing," "preservation" and "disseminating" and the research support services provided at each stage were examined around the cases of U.S. and domestic university libraries. Based on the implications obtained from the case, a service plan was proposed for domestic university libraries to systematically support each phase of the research life cycle.

  • In the Fourth Industrial Revolution, students are required to develop in areas such as communication, logic, and creative thinking. Therefore, the university libraries need to develop new services so that students can grow up to be suitable for the new social situations. Havruta is an educational approach that can meet these needs and is one of the measures the university libraries want to apply. Thus, through 1) the investigation of the concept of Havruta, 2) the case study of domestic and foreign university libraries, and 3) interview of the Havtura-based service, this study 4) proposed the Havruta service applicable to the university libraries and 5) conducted a survey of operators and users on the awareness of the Havruta service, space, and contents of the Havruta service, and the willingness of the Havruta service. Results of the survey analysis revealed implications for the areas of the Havruta service - Havruta theme, group organization, textbook rental, simplication of space reservation, data sharing and motivation system.
