  • A transceiver for ADSL systems contains an interpolated combfilter, halfband filters, oversampling sigma delta modulator, a current steering DAC and an analog filler. The circuit complexity of the architecture makes it necessary to use behavioral models to determine the system features. For this reason, we need a specific behavioral simulation environment using the Matlab program. The Matlab is crucial for these circuits to be rapidly incorporated in larger systems, in particular in the context of mixed-signal-test schemes. Design trade-off among the blocks has also been discussed. The design methodology is based on behavioral design and CMOS process.

  • This paper introduces an experimental design studio that explores the optimal use of current digital technologies in order to employ Building Information Modeling at the early phase of design process. Based upon the outcomes from the aforementioned studio, the paper discusses the integrated design strategies for BIM in the design process. In this paper, BIM is proposed as a design tool that increases an overal design productivity more effectively and efficiently compared to BIM as a construction tool with encouraging a design communication among different partakers in the design process.

  • Excellent apparel design can increase market competitiveness. This article briefly introduced the theory of fractals and its application in the field of apparel design. The convolutional neural network (CNN) algorithm was used to assist in the evaluation of apparel designs. In the case analysis, the accuracy of the evaluation was validated by comparing the CNN algorithm with two other intelligent algorithms, support vector machine (SVM) and back propagation (BP). The evaluation of the proposed design showed that compared with SVM and BP algorithms, the CNN algorithm had higher accuracy in evaluating apparel designs. The evaluation result of the proposed apparel design not only further verifies the effectiveness of the CNN algorithm, but also demonstrates that the theory of fractals can be effectively applied in apparel design to provide more innovative designs.

Comparative Analysis of Visual Presentation and User Acceptability of Virtual/Augmented Reality Application for Architectural Design Review (설계검토를 위한 가상현실·증강현실 기술의 활용 효과 비교 분석)

  • Visualized information platforms through building information modeling (BIM) such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) improves the efficiency of architectural information exchange. Despite that, less effort has been directed to evaluate the effectiveness of different BIM visualization platforms for architectural design review. This study fills these gaps and compares three BIM visualization tools for reviewing diverse architectural review factors and technology acceptance degree. Three main BIM visualization tools, which are desktop-based, virtual reality-based and augmented reality-based, were employed and different architectural review factors and user's technology acceptance degree was measured. As a result, VR and AR environment showed better visual presentation than desktop environment during design review. In terms of the technology acceptance level, VR and AR environments have received higher ratings compared to desktop environments. The detailed findings provide guidelines for participants and researchers involved in design review process to selectively adopt VR and AR system to various architectural design review components.

  • The performance design and analysis of an electric motor for vehicles is very complicated due to the variety of parameters. This paper presents the design of the BLDC motor for electric air compressor in high voltage(42V) system and compares with the characteristics of IPM, SPM type BLDC motor. Futher, optimal design for the electric motor has been carried out using Equivalent Magnetic Circuit and FEM Modelling. By analyzing the design results, it is found that design parameters for BLDC motor provided an useful tool for vehicles motor design.

Eye Gaze Information and Game Level Design according to FPS Gameplay Beats

  • Player's actions in a game occur in the process of gameplay experiences in a play space designed by the developer according to preset gameplay beats. Focusing on beats that induce a first-person shooter (FPS) game's main gameplay, this paper analyzes the differences in eye gaze information found in different players during the course of gameplay. For this research goal, the study divides the beat areas in which play actions appear in association with gameplay beats at a typical FPS game level, repeatedly conducts tests in accordance with a player's experience level (novice and expert group), and collects and analyzes eye gaze information data in three types of beat areas. The analysis result suggests concrete guidelines for game level design for different beat areas based on an FPS game player's experience level. This empirical experiment method and result can lessen repetitive modification work for game level design and consequently be utilized for optimizing the game level to the developer's intention.

Advanced Interchangeable Dynamic Simulation Model for the Optimal Design of a Fuel Cell Power Conditioning System

  • This paper presents an advanced dynamic simulation model of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell for the optimal design of a fuel cell power conditioning system (FC-PCS). For the development of fuel cell models, the dynamic characteristics of the fuel cell are considered, including its static characteristics. Then, software fuel cell simulation is realized using Matlab-Simulink. Specifically, the design consideration of PCS (i.e., power semiconductor switch, capacitor, and inductor) is discussed by comparatively analyzing the developed simulator and ideal DC source. In addition, a cosimulation between the fuel cell model and PCS realized using the PSIM software is performed with the help of the SimCoupler module. Detailed analysis and informative simulation results are provided for the optimal design of fuel cell PCS.

  • The development of computer integrated systems for structural design requires models to describe and organize information and activities involved in design. An entity-based integrated design model involves a number of product and process entities. Product entities and process entities describe design information and design activities, respectively. One type of relationships among entities is interaction relationships, which describe interdependencies among design information. The interaction relationships can be represented as constraints. Types of constraints include demand constraints, dependency constraints, and interaction constraints. The concepts of representing and processing demand constraints in an entity-based integrated design model are presented.

  • We have proposed a novel optical design technique of light-guide plates(LGPs) which can able to improve the optical efficiency of transflective LCDs. The basic concepts of our design technique are that we make the groove-pattern of LGP pixels resemble the pixel-array-pattern of transflective LCDs in shape and size and make the surface of the groove scatter (front scattering). In simulated and measured results, we ensure that our design of LGP in backlight unit for transflective LCDs can improve the optical efficiency of LCDs.
