  • The purpose of this study was to figure out how interdisciplinary education is conducted in higher education organizations in terms of planning, implementation, outcome and evaluation. To achieve the purpose, professors involved in interdisciplinary programs were subject to questionnaire. The results indicated that informed interdisciplinary education was the most frequent type among four types of interdisciplinarity, which refers to borrowing elements from other disciplines. As well as, the informants lacked in experiences and epistemological basis for interdisciplinary education. Finally, support for interdisciplinary education from university and government was required by the practitioners.

  • This study was conducted to seek the innovation challenges of "University Department of Special Education" with convergence on lifelong education of the disabled which is constantly stressed due to the educational needs of the disabled. For this purpose, the study first examined the compatibility between special education and lifelong education of the disabled based on the universal basis and then suggested faculty competence development for the foundation of organization and an integrated cooperation system of "University Department of Special Education" with support of National Institute for Lifelong Education of Disabled, lifelong education centers, related local organizations, and local colleges. In regards to the curriculum, the study also suggested lifelong education curriculum of disabled within the university lifelong education centers and a foundation for gradual restructuring of the curriculum of the "Department of Special Education". A program for 'lifelong education instructors for disabled (temporary name)' was introduced based on interdisciplinary course with "University Department of Special Education" for qualification of instructions.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a data base system for the infromation on research and development of science education. As a part of this development, an analysis of master's theses and doctoral dissertations from the Department of Science Education, Seoul National University was done, and using authors' classification system for the research and development materials of science education, those theses were classified. From the analysis and classification, the following conclusion was drawn: 1) The Department of Science Education, Seoul National University had produced 468 masters of education for about 30 years. Among them, only 107 theses were on the science education and the other 361 theses on the pure science. This means that department has not taken root as a department of science education. If it does not carry out its own purpose of establishment, it will not be able to justify its existence any longer 2) As compared to the increased number of students applying for the doctoral program, the number of faculty is very few in the field of science education. Without more supplement of the faculty member majored science education, there will be increased conflict and disorder among faculty and students. 3) The proportion of the theses on science education to those on science vanes greatly by the major of the department. This is the mirror of the faculty attitude to and recognition of science education and the faculty composition. 4) The classification of master theses and doctoral dissertations on science education showed that most of them focused on the secondary school science education and were survey studies. But recently it is noticeable that the theme of the study became diversified and has kept in step with the international research trends.

  • Despite the importance of how the premedical education curriculum is organized, the basic direction of the curriculum has not been evaluated at a fundamental level. In order to explore the basic directions of the premedical education curriculum, this study examined medical education as a university education, the historical basis of premedical education, and the direction of the premedical education curriculum. Historically, as medical education was incorporated into the university education system, premedical education developed based on basic science and liberal arts education. Accordingly, the direction of the premedical education curriculum began to split into two approaches: one believing in a basic science-based education intended to serve as the foundation of medical training, and the other believing in a liberal arts-based education intended to cultivate the qualities of a doctor. In recent years, however, the binary division in the direction of premedical education has ceased to exist, and the paradigm has now shifted to an agreement that premedical education must cultivate the basic scientific competence required for learning medical knowledge as well as the social qualities that a doctor should have, which are cultivated through the liberal arts. Furthermore, it has been asserted that the direction of premedical education should move toward the qualities that will be required in the future. With the fourth industrial revolution underway, the role of doctors is now being re-examined. This means that today's medical education must change in a future-oriented way, and the direction of the premedical education curriculum must be on the same page.

  • In this study, the standard model of next-generation software(SW) education was developed to expand SW education for fostering future talents and to prepare a consistent SW education application system for elementary, middle and high schools in the next revised curriculum. To this end, based on the study of the standard model for elementary and secondary SW education conducted in 2017~2018 academics, basic research and analysis on domestic and foreign SW education, public forums of related organizations and experts, global SW education workshops, and public hearings are held. Through this process, a consistent application system for SW education in elementary, middle, and high schools was established, and the next generation SW education standard curriculum model that can be connected to higher education and industry was developed.

  • A taxonomy which can be used conveniently for analyzing the vertical articulation of mathematics and science textbooks has been developed. It includes two types sanalysis criterion: one is based on the detail of description and the other is based on the depth of contents in terms of their sequence. These two criterion elements are combined to form groups of 'overlap', 'development' and 'gap' to represent the extent of articulation. Examples of applying the taxonomy are illustrated for the concepts of gemetrical area in mathematics and potential energy in science.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze elementary and secondary school teachers' recognition about engineering education in elementary and secondary school. For this, we surveyed elementary and secondary school teachers. The result of this study is as follow. First, most teachers perceived that engineering positively affect national competitiveness and development. They also found that engineering education helps student to select natural science and engineering field career. Moreover, they perceived that engineering contents are not applied in elementary and secondary schools curriculums, hence it does not stimulate interest in engineering. Therefore, they perceived that if engineering education contents are systematically applied in formal curriculum, it will have a positive effect on current engineering education. Second, most teachers perceived that roles of engineering education are to make students learn creative design and problem solving process and inform about the engineering field career. They perceived that the best grade to start engineering education is 4~6 grade in elementary school and the best way to apply engineering education is through distributing engineering education contents to related subjects. They also perceived that technology subject has the most relation to engineering education and science subjects; mathematics subject follow after.
