  • The authors address the effectiveness of the composite brand extension In the context of international brand alliance. In composite brand extension, four combinations of 4 domestic brands and one internationally well-known brand as header and modifier brands are used as the brand names for four experimental products. The results of analyses reveal that (1) degrees of brand attribute transferability between header and composite brands, and (2) the impact of header and modifier brands on a composite brand appear to be decreasing when the distance of product categories between header and modifier brands are farther. In addition, the authors demonstrate that the fitness between constituent brands and composite brands tends to have more influences on consumers' evaluation of a composite brand than does the complementarity when the distance of product categories between header and modifier brands are farther. Some implications and future research directions are also discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine female consumers' attitudes and purchase intentions toward intimate apparel brands. To understand female consumers' shopping behaviors for intimate apparel products, this study examined interrelationships among brand familiarity, perceived risk, attitudes, and purchase intentions toward intimate apparel brands. A conceptual model was developed by adopting perceived risk theory (Cox, 1967) and theory of reasoned action (Ajzen & Fishbein, 1980). A pre-survey using a paper and pencil was conducted to identify the most familiar intimate apparel brand to young female consumers. The majority of pre-survey respondents (66 female college students) indicated Victoria's Secret as the most prominent intimate apparel brand. Therefore, Victoria's Secret was used to examine possible effects of brand familiarity on perceived risk and attitudinal and behavioral responses toward the brand. Using a web-based survey, 384 complete responses were collected from young female college students between the ages of 18-29 at a Mid-southern U.S. university. A structural equation modeling was employed to test the proposed research model and hypotheses. Results showed positive, statistically significant associations among the four variables (e.g., brand familiarity, perceived risk, attitudes, and purchase intentions). The findings suggested that young female consumers who are familiar with a particular intimate apparel brand are likely to perceive a low level of risk, leading to positive, strong attitudes with purchase intentions toward that particular intimate apparel brand. This suggests establishing brand familiarity through integrated marketing communication is crucial for risk reduction strategy in intimate apparel shopping.

  • Despite the recession that has affected people's consumption of clothing, the 'Gold Kids' market shows steady growth. This study analyzed the characteristics of components that make up infant and children's wear brands. Firstly, this study found the linguistic features of infant and children's clothing brands. Most brand names have common characteristics such as idiomatic expressions, combination and separation of vocabulary, and more than 6 syllables. Also, when they formative brand quality, they frequently used words like 'girl', 'kid' and 'baby' to clarify the category of the brand product. Also it is meant to present a clear brand concept to the target consumer to offer their brand information and product characteristics. Moreover, English is widely used in the brand names, and they used appropriate symbol graphics that fit the titles and qualities of the brands. Second, to strengthen their brand identity and inherent concepts, infant and children's clothing brands normally use their own particular brand colors wich makes special and strong visual impressions on the target consumer. Also, they mainly use applied sans serif typeface showing the softer brand quality. Brand logos have different visual expressions depending on their brand value and the target consumer. The word type of the logos presents clear brand identity and information to the target consumer. Through the study, we found that infant and children's clothing brands tend to use written brand names for the logo type more than graphic symbol logo patterns. This indicates that infant and children's clothing brands tend to emphasize information transfer rather than visual graphic symbols when they organize brand logos.

  • Purpose - The ICT(information and communications technologies) development is affecting consumer behaviors on selecting channel or distribution system. This study aims to advance our knowledge about the factors influencing omni-channel behaviors. This study considers the positive brand experience as the moderating variable into the relationship between omini-channel use intention and consumer brand relation. Also, the effect of positive brand experience on consumer-brand relation is researched. Research design, data, and methodology - This study conducted an empirical test with the subject as customers who purchase goods or service through on-off cross channel simultaneously. The research model is developed from prior literatures about influencing variables on channel selection. The structure of this study is designed to identify causal relationships between the variables. 268 survey data from the questionnaire survey which is conducted to target customers who use online and offline channels, is used for empirical analysis. This study validates generality with descriptive statistics and data reliability with Cronbach's alpha value. The exploratory factor analysis is used for value purification. Then, the confirmatory factor analysis is conducted for structural equation modeling. Finally, the execute structural equation modeling is analyzed to confirm the hypotheses Results - First, the two causal influences between perceived performance risk and the propensity of omni-channel and between price consciousness and the propensity of omni-channel are verified through the empirical test. Second, the result identifies that the propensity of omni-channel is influenced on consumer-brand relationship. Third, the AMOS analysis proves that the moderating variable, positive brand experience, has significant positive impact on consumer-brand relationship. This significant relationship is highly supported by the regression analysis between brand experience and propensity of omni-channel because it results that positive brand experience has positive impact on the propensity of omni-channel. All hypotheses are verified to be true. Conclusions - Based on the empirical result, this study confirms that perceived performance risk and price consciousness are the important factors influencing propensity of omni-channel. According to the additional analysis, the moderating variable and positive brand experience plays important role between the propensity of omni-channel and consumer-brand relationship. Furthermore, positive brand experience influences more on consumer-brand relationship than non-positive brand experience.

  • Purpose: The furniture industry has a huge potential for growth in Indonesia. Due to Indonesia's vast natural resources, furniture designers, makers, and retailers are given ease of access. The research analyzes the influence of service quality, promotion, product, and price on brand image and purchase intention in Indonesia's furniture distribution channels. Research design, data, and methodology: The variables used are service quality, promotion, product, price, brand image, and purchase intention. This research is cross-sectional research, which will be conducted among the furniture consumers in Indonesia, from the Instagram followers of a community as of 31 July 2023 with 837.5 thousand followers. The tools that will be used are surveys, conducted according to the sample size and processed using SMARTPLS 4 and the SEM-PLS model. Results: The findings urge that some variables have a significant influence on purchase intention directly but become less significant when influenced by brand image. Some variables can influence purchase intentions significantly through brand image, even if the certain variable did not have a significant influence on purchase intention directly. Conclusions: By knowing the significance of the variables towards brand image and purchase intention, ones with major influence can be implemented as a strategy to improve marketing in Indonesian furniture distributors.

  • Despite of the importance of design, relatively little research has been conducted on consumers' behavioral responses to product design and especially, the empirical studies which are related to consumers' psychological responses to product design. Understanding of the relationship between the response to product design and brand image or brand equity is limited. This research investigated the effect of the design image which can be formed by the response to product design on brand image and equity in two kinds of product types (utilitarian and symbolic product). The result shows that the product design image has a strong effect on the brand image in both products. Design image of the product influences brand equity in the symbolic product. However, there was no significant effect of the product design image on brand equity in the utilitarian product. In addition, the research found that brand image has a strong effect on brand equity in both products.
