  • Column subtraction, originally proposed by Harche and Thompson(1994), is an exact method for solving large set covering, packing and partitioning problems. Since the constraint set of ship scheduling problem(SSP) have a special structure, most instances of SSP can be solved by LP relaxation This paper aim, at applying the column subtraction method to solve SSP which am not be solved by LP relaxation For remained instances of unsolvable ones, we subtract columns from the finale simplex table to get another integer solution in an iterative manner. Computational results having up to 10,000 0-1 variables show better performance of the column subtraction method solving the remained instances of SSP than complex branch and-bound algorithm by LINDO.

  • In general, flow analysis programs have been built in not JAVA language but such as Fortran, C or C++ because of a merit in performance of computation. However, most developer of those languages are not free for use. User should purchase the development tools of programs, and install it on their own computer. Fortunately, JAVA is a free software, and can be used to develop WEB-based programs. It is well known that the JAVA language is time consuming for calculating. However, the performance of computer power has been increased continuously, so it is sure that the former states can be overcome. In the present study, a flow analysis program, which is interactive with Graphics, using the Web-based programing language, JAVA, has been developed for solving the two-dimensional flow motion.

  • In power quality monitoring, it is very important to detect disturbances (sag, swell, transient, and interruption) accurately. In this paper, a detection method for power quality disturbances by combining the filter bank system and adaptive filter is proposed. To decompose power signal, binary tree structured filter bank system is designed. In the filter bank system, the fundamental filter bank(QMF bank) is used as a module in each decomposing level. An adaptive filter is used to improve the detection accuracy of disturbances for each subband signal. In the adaptive filter, the measure of estimated error change is used to detect singular points of power quality disturbances. Computer simulations were performed on synthetic signals which have disturbances to assess the performance of the proposed method.

  • For this study of adolescent attitudes toward child sexual abuse, 200 students attending high school and college participated in a group survey. The Child Sexual Abuse Myth Scale (Collings, 1999) was used to measure social attitudes toward child sexual abuse. Overall, the attitudes of the respondents placed between negative and positive attitudes. Nevertheless, strong negative myths and stereotypes, particularly blame diffusion, denial of abusiveness, and restrictive abuse stereotypes were found in specific situations. High school students and male students had more negative myths and stereotypes than college students and female students. Hierarchical regression analysis indicated the variables of education level and gender as the most important predictors in explaining students' attitudes toward child sexual abuse.

  • Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) systems utilize the temperature difference between the surface water and deep ocean water to generate electrical energy. In addition to ocean surface waves, wind and current, in certain locations like the Andaman Sea, Sulu Sea and the South China Sea the presence of strong internal waves may become a concern in floating OTEC system design. The current paper focuses on studying the dependence of the CWP hydrodynamic drag on relative velocity of the flow around the pipe, the effect of drag amplification due to vortex induced vibrations and the influence of internal waves on the floating semi and the cold water pipe integrated OTEC system. Two CWP sizes are modeled; the 4m diameter pipe represents a small scale prototype and the 10m diameter pipe represents a full commercial size CWP. are considered in the study.

  • Consider an additive regression model of Y on X = (X$_1$,X$_2$,. . .,$X_p$), Y = $sum_{j=1}^pf_j(X_j) + $\varepsilon$$, where $f_j$s are smooth functions to be estimated and $\varepsilon$ is a random error. If $X_j$s are fixed design points, we call it the fixed design additive model. Since the response variable Y is observed at fixed p-dimensional design points, the behavior of the nonparametric regression estimator depends on the design. We propose a fixed design called permutation fixed design, and fit the regression function by the kernel method. The estimator in the permutation fixed design achieves the univariate optimal rate of convergence in mean squared error for any p $\geq$ 2.

  • This paper investigates the field weakening operation of a five-phase IPMSM(inner permanent magnet synchronous motor). The five-phase motor can supply sinusoidal voltage and third harmonic voltage because of more freedom of control. This paper present field weakening algorithm and experimental results for five-phase IPMSM which has trapzoidal back-EMF and concentrate winding to prove the validity of the proposed algorithm.

  • This study was an effort to identify the reasons for use or underuse of neighborhood parks in Fort Wayne, Indiana and to suggest the solutions for the problems found. The significant differences between under and heavily used parks were found by the quantity and quality of each park's facilities and by the racial characteristics of residents around the each park. Environmental and social factors, and user satisfaction with their neighborhood park are suggested to be the solutions.

  • Two instrumented full scale tieback walls in sand were constructed at to Geotechnical Experimentation Site located on the Texas A 51M University Riversic Measurements were obtained from the one row anchor wall and from the two row at different times during construction. The measured performance of the tieback walls is presented and investigated. The these walls at different construction stage is evaluated with respect to lateral wall. settlement of the ground, bending moment of the wall. axial load distribution and anchor load variation. The fundamental mechanism of a tieback wall in sand is and explained with the measurements.
