Korea is one of the country with the world's oldest meteorological observation records. Starting with first meteorological record of fog in Goguryeo in the year of 34 BC, Korea had left a great deal of quantitative observation records, from the Three Kingdoms Period to Goryeo to Joseon. During the Joseon Dynasty, with a great attention by kings, efforts were particularly made to measure rainfall in a systematic and scientific manner. In the 23rd year of King Sejong (1441), the world's first rain gauge called "Chugugi" was invented; in the following year (1442), a nationwide rainfall observation network was established. The King Sejong distributed Chugugi to 350 observation stations throughout the state, even to small towns and villages, for measuring and recording rainfall. The rainfall observation using Chugugi, initiated by King Sejong, had been in place for about 150 years, but halted during national disturbances such as Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592. Since then, the observation had been forgotten for a long time until the rainfall observation by Chugugi was resumed in the 48th year of King Yeongjo (1770). King Yeongjo adopted most of the existing observation system established by King Sejong, including the size of Chugugi and observation rules. He, however, significantly reduced the number of Chugugi observation stations to 14, and commanded the 352 local authorities such as Bu, Gun, Hyeon to conduct "Wootaek", a method of measuring how far the moisture had absorbed into the soil when it rains. Later on, six more Chugugi stations were established. If the number of stations of Chugugi and Wootaek are combined together, the total number of rainfall observation station in the late period of Joseon Dynasty was 372. The rainfall observation with Chugugi during the Joseon Dynasty is of significance and excellence in three aspects: 1) the standard size of Chugugi was so scientifically designed that it is as great as today's modern rain gauge; 2) rainfall was precisely measured, even with unit of Bun (2 mm); and 3) the observation network was distributed on a nationwide basis.

This CW(Construction wastes) are increasing as construction industry is growing, so many countries make efforts to recycle CW. Korea also made a stipulation for recycling CW. But the main content of this stipulation is for using recycled aggregates. Advanced countries try to increase reuse rate of not only recycled aggregate but also other kinds of wastes. So they are adopting SDM(separating dismantlement) method and we are also planning to make the system for SDM. This study is about SDM analysis through construction field investigation and difference analysis between SDM and UDM comparing predictive amount by UDM with real generated amount by SDM. First, the generated amount of construction wastes by SDM is more than estimated amount by UDM, and mixed waste was specially reduced more than UDM. The warehouse is easier than the office building to applicate SDM. But still there is no manual for SDM in the site, so establishment of SDM is demanded.
This study was performed to develope stem analysis program(Stemwin1.0) which can be used in PC with MS-Windows operating system. Stemwin1.0 uses width of annual tree ring measured with 1/100mm unit, and calculate increments of several growth factors such as DBH, height and volume with various methods. Mean DBH can be calculated by arithmetic and quadratic mean methods. Height can be estimated by parallel line, line extending and height curve methods. Volume can be estimated by Huber, Smalian, and Spline functions. Not only Total growth, Mean Annual Increment(MAI) and Current Annual Increment(CAI) of growth factors, but also merchantable volume and height, form factor, growth rate, and merchantable volume rate are automatically calculated. Stemwin1.0 can also output accurate stem taper curve with various scale, and prepare stem taper data(diameter at different disk heights) for statistical analysis for deriving stem taper model. Stemwin1.0 can export output data and graph to Excel for more compatible use of it.
This paper analyzed the effect of transaction costs on the prices and trading volumes at the initial stage of emission markets and also examined how the size of the effect differs depending on the characteristics of the transactions. We built trading protocols modeling a recursive process to search the trading partner and make transactions with several behavioral assumptions considering the situations of early markets. The simulations results show that adding transaction costs resulted in reduction of trading volumes. Furthermore, the speed of reduction in trading volume to the increase of transaction costs is higher when there is scale economy. With a certain level of scale economy, the trading volumes abruptly fall down to almost zero as the transaction cost gets over a certain level. This suggests the possibility of a failed market. Since the scale economy is thought to be significant in the early stage of emission trading market, it is desirable to design a trading system that maximizes trading volumes and minimizes unit transaction costs at the outset. One of the alternatives to meet these conditions is to establish a centralized exchange and take measures to increase trading volumes.

In this Paper, the Performance of the convolution method has been investigated as an effort to develop a simple system of predicting wind-driven surface current on a real time basis. In this approach wind stress is assumed to be spatially uniform and the effect of atmospheric pressure is neglected. The discrete convolution weights are determined in advance at each point using a linear three-dimensional Galerkin model with linear shape functions(Galerkin-FEM model). Four directions of wind stress(e.g. NE, SW, NW, SE) with unit magnitude are imposed in the model calculation for the construction of data base for convolution weights. Given the time history of wind stress, it is then possible to predict with-driven currents promptly using the convolution product of finite length. An unsteady wind stress of arbitrary form can be approximated by a series of wind pulses with magnitude of 6 hour averaged value. A total of 12 pulses are involved in the convolution product To examine the accuracy of the convolution method a series of numerical experiments has been carried out in the idealized basin representing the scale of the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea. The wind stress imposed varies sinusoidally in time. It was found that the predicted surface currents and elevation fields were in good agreement with the results computed by the direct integration of the Galerkin model. A model with grid 1/8$^{\circ}$ in latitude, l/6$^{\circ}$ in longitude was established which covers the entire region of the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea. The numerical prediction in terms of the convolution product has been carried out with particular attention on the formation of upwind flow in the middle of the Yellow Sea by northerly wind.

Fluoride removal by acid and heat treated red mud were studied in batch and column system regarding contact time, initial concentration, pH, adsorbent dose, and filter depth. The results showed that acid treated with 0.8 M HCl, had highest adsorption capacity of fluoride and adsorption capacity decreased as heat treatment temperature increased. Sorption equilibrium reached in 30 min at a initial concentration of 50 mg-F/L but 1 h was required to reach the sorption equilibrium at the initial concentration of 500 mg-F/L by 0.8 M acid treated red mud (0.8 M-ATRM). Equilibrium adsorption data were fitted well to Langmuir isotherm model with maximum fluoride adsorption capacity of 23.162 mg/g. The fluoride adsorption decreased as pH increased due to the fluoride competition for favorable adsorption site with $OH^-$ at higher pH. Removal percentage was increased but the amount of adsorption per unit mass decreased by adding the amount of 0.8 M-ATRM. It was concluded that the 0.8 M-ATRM could be used as a potential adsorbent for the fluoride removal from aqueous solutions because of its high fluoride adsorption capacity and low cost.

The Chungju and Seosan Groups have been known usually as Precambrian formations in Korea. But their relative and absolute ages have been controvericial problem in relation with other geologic system such as so-called Ogcheon and Yeoncheon Systems in Korea. This study has mainly focused on the corelation of the Chungju Group with the Seosan Group in their stratigraphy, structure, metamorphism, and iron ore deposits. In the process of study, the auther surveyed and reclassified the Chungju and Seosan Groups and corelated with Gyeonggi and Ogch cheon metamorphic belts and got some new data. The Chungju iron-bearing formations showing transtitional relation with the Gyeonggi Gneiss Complex and the Jangamri Formation consisting mainly of pebble bearing calcarious phyllite, should be seperated from the Gyemyeongsan formation which is mainly composed of metavolcanic rocks. The Jangamri Formation and the coaly phyllite, which can be corelated respectively with the Hwaggangri Formation and Changri Formation in Ogcheon Group, are repeated in the Gyemyeonsan and Munjuri Formations with the overturned anticlinal folding(F1). So the Chungju Group which was defined as an indipendant geologic unit from the Ogcheon Group should be limited only on the Chungju iron Formation. The Seosan Group can be classified stratigraphically such as Seosan Formation consisting of iron-bearing quartzite and mica schist, Daesan Formation overlying unconformably on the Seosan Formation and Gyeonggi Gneiss Complex. Taean Formation overlying unconformably on the Daesan Formation should be seperated from Seosan Group. There are many similarity in the stratigrphy, structure, and metamorphic facies between Chungju and Seosan Groups exept the metavolcanic rocks in the Gyemyeongsan and Munjuri Formations and the pebble bearing calcareous phyllite in the Jangamri Formation. The two Groups were deformed with two kinds of differant stages, the first shows $N30^{\circ}-40^{\circ}E$ trend of fold axis, the second $N70^{\circ}-80^{\circ}W$ respectively. The Seosan Formation, which is the lowest formation in Seosan Group and bearing the iron formation, was metamorphosed at 2500 m. y. before. These age is similar with the metamorphic age of Gyeonggi metamorphic belt and with the age of Algoman and Kenoran Orogenies which devide the Precambrian into Archean and Proterozoic Era. So the Seosan Formation, which is included in some migmatitic rocks of Gyeonggi Gneiss Complex, is the oldest formation in Korea and can be corelated with the Anshan Group which bears the oldest iron formation in China. The metamorphic facies of the Precambrian metamorphism in Seosan area is simillar with that of Chungju area, showing high temperature-low pressure amphibolite facies which is corelated with the Gyeonggi metamorphic belt, the oldest metamorphic belt in Korea ($650^{\circ}-680^{\circ}C$, 3.2-4.4 Kb). The high temperature intermediate pressure amphibolite facies in Seosan area with the low temperature-intermediate presure greenschist facies of Taean formation is corelated with that of Ogcheon Group ($590^{\circ}-640^{\circ}$ C, 5.2-6.3 Kb). The Chungju and Seosan iron formations were deposited in Archean, showing geochemical composition of Precambrian iron formations. The Chungju iron formation was mainly formed by the chemical precipitation, on the other hand, the Seosan iron formation was formed by alternated action of chemical and detrital depositions.

Objectives: Nanomaterials have been used in various fields. As use of nanoproducts is increasing, workers dealing with nanomaterials are also gradually increasing. Exposure assessments for nanomaterials have been carried out for protection of worker's health in workplace. Exposure studies were mainly focused on manufacturing processes, but these studies on after-treatment processes such as refinement, weighing, and packing were insufficient. So, we investigated exposure characteristics of particles during after-treatment processes of $Al_2O_3$ fibers and Ni powders. Methods: Mass-production of Ni powder process was carried out in enclosed capture-type canopy hood. In a developing stage, $Al_2O_3$ was handled with a local ventilation unit. Exposure characteristics of particles were investigated for $Al_2O_3$ fiber and Ni powder processes during the periods of 10:00 to 16:00, 20 May 2014 and 13:00 to 16:00, 21 May 2014, respectively. Three real-time aerosol instruments were utilized in exposure assessment. A scanning mobility particle sizer(SMPS, nanoscan, model 3910, TSI) and an optical particle counter(OPC, portable aerosol spectrometer, model 1.109, Grimm) were used to determine the particle size distribution in the size range of 10-420 nm and $0.25-32{\mu}m$, respectively. In addition, a nanoparticle aerosol monitor(NAM, model 9000, TSI) was used to measure lung-deposited nanoparticle surface area. Membrane filters(isopore membrane filter, pore size of 100 nm) were also used for air sampling for the FE-SEM(model S-5000H, Hitachi) analysis using a personal sampling pump(model GilAir Plus by 2.5 L/min, Gilian). Conclusions: For Ni powder after-treatment process, only 27% increase in particle concentration was found during the process. However, for $Al_2O_3$ fiber after-treatment process, significant exposure(1.56-3.34 times) was observed during the process.
The purpose of this study was to examine the trends of length of hospital stay (LOS), which is most likely to be a major attribute to hospital performance. From 1984 to 1994, an average LOS of each hospital was analyzed by factors such as medical departments, bed size, occupancy rate, region and ownership. This study was analyzed changing rate of LOS during 11 years. This rate was calculated by simple regression, which was used only with hospital without missing data during 11 years. This study findings are as follows. 1. The results indicated that the average LOS was steadily increased until 1990 but it was slightly decreased after 1990. 2. This trend could be found in all hospital scale and all group of occupancy rate. Specifically this trends of LOS were found in internal medicine, corporate owned hospitals, and hospitals in major city. But LOS of individual owned hospital was continuously increased until 1994. 3. Means of changing rates of LOS were calculated from 1984 to 1994. If we devided it into two parts, before 1990 and after 1990, most changing rates of LOS before 1990 except individual owned hospital were found positive sign. The changing rates after 1990 were negative sign but small hospital(lesser then 200 bed), individual owned hospital, national & public hospital and hospital in small urban have little change of LOS after 1990. Finally from this results we thought that most hospitals in Korea began to be concerned with LOS. Nevertheless LOS of several hospital such as small hospital or individual owned hospital was increased. And this trend may be caused by a few patients, low occupancy rate, or low profit. This trend of LOS is different from that of other countries. Perhaps this phenomenon is resulted from the reimbursement method. Because of fee for service reimbursement system in Korea the hospitals didn't need to shorten LOS in order to save the cost and increase the profit. Therefore reform of hospital cost reimbursement method will be needed to reduce hospital cost in Korea. We thought that the Korean health authority should consider the reimbursement method by unit of bundle of services, for example DRG and prepayment in the United States. This study presents some limitations such as no insight of severity of disease, case-mix measurement of hospital, and other clinical characteristics that can. possibly affect LOS. However, this study reports an important trend in LOS from 1984 to 1994.

The morphology of the high burnup $UO_2$ spent fuel, which was oxidized and annealed in a PIA (Post Irradiation Annealing) apparatus, has been observed. The high burnup fuel irradiated in Ulchin Unit 2, average rod burnup 57,000 MWd/tU, was transported to the KAERI's PIEF. The test specimen was used with about 200 mg of the spent $UO_2$ fuel fragment of the local burnup 65,000 MWd/tU. This specimen was annealed at $1400^{\circ}C$ for 4hrs after the oxidation for 3hrs to grain boundary using the PIA apparatus in a hot-cell. In order to oxidize the grain boundary, the oxidation temperature increased up to $500^{\circ}C$ and held for 3hrs in the mixed gas (60 ml He and 100 ml STD-air) atmosphere. The amount of 85Kr during the whole test process was measured to know the fission gas release behavior using the online system of a beta counter and a gamma counter. The detailed micro-structure was observed by a SEM to confirm the change of the fuel morphology after this test. As the annealing temperature increased, the fission products were observed to move to the grain surface and grain boundary of the $UO_2$ matrix. This specimen was re-structured through the reduction process, and the grain sizes were distributed from 5 to $10\;{\mu}m$.
