This study aims to understand functional spaces within university dormitory, examine the influences of residential environment factors and personal characteristics on users' satisfaction through what parameters and probability among these parameters and seek improvement methods for dormitory users to live at dormitory as the best residential space through causal analysis of residential space uses at university dormitory based on such a probability. Research methods include theoretical research of architectural space characteristics of university dormitory facilities through literature survey, analysis of satisfaction with spaces and their uses through questionnaire and causal analysis of each residential environment factor after making route model using data obtained from the results of analysis. The results of this study are as follows. Factors affecting residents' satisfaction with cultural activities of residential environment factors are safety, territoriality, interior finishing and complexity and those affecting residents' educational activities are safety and amenity of space. Residential function space of university dormitory must have spatial planning that social activities including individual and small group culture and educational activities from the view of spatial territoriality and flexibility based on safety and amenity and facilities related to continuity and connection of common space and unit residential space should be decentralized rather than centralized.
This study aims to investigate planning characteristics of common and living space in the dormitory buildings on campus in Chungcheong province. A document research method was used to analyze and classified into floor-plan, zoning and area. Also site visits were conducted at 8 dormitory buildings of 4 universities, and drawings were collected and compared for this research. The results of this study were as follows; 1)Most floor plans of public spaces had corridor types and integrated public space types. The typical floorplan of living space was 2person-1bedroom and apartment type which shared livingroom, bathroom, restroom and shower between bedrooms. The living space type of dormitory buildings was more complex and growth in size. Unit community combined 2-4person per 1bedroom in floor plan can help student with identity and affiliated formation. 2)The types of the spatial composition in public spaces were devided into three zones; study, living and administrative zones such as seminar room, public bathroom and storage, etc. This results shows that various types of public space for the improvement of community of small group has recently become more important than basic sanitary space in public space of dormitory buildings on campus.
This study was to find out contemporary planning characteristics of rural houses in Na-po Munhwa village by analyzing their floor plans. These results were then compared with apartment housing trends. 240 houses were built in that village, but it was only possible to collect housing data, floor plans and general building records from 102 houses, using house registers. By analyzing those data, the findings were as follows: 1) Floor plan shapes of rural houses showed a tendency to words a 'ㅋ' shape, a 3bay or a transformed 3 bay and a "room-living-room" space arrangement of a centered living room. Public spaces (L.D.K) were separately planned DK from livingroom. Living space was very open and the DK space had created visual privacy from the entrance. The Anbang (master bedroom) and living space were set to the front of the floor plan and an interior toilet was planned in them. These floor-planning tendencies were similar to trend apartment houses in urban areas. 2) Utility and Balcony spaces as a support space of kitchen were not popular features of rural houses in the Munhwa village. These results were different from urban apartment housing trends. 5) Storage space practically absent in those rural houses, and this was similar to urban the trends in urban apartment houses.
The paper begins with the idea of the society of the continued rooms that building connects architectural space (building interior) and urban open space (urban interior) or countryside/rural open space (territorial interior). It gives an account of, through literature review, a theoretical possibility of integrating not only architecture and urbanism but also architecture and countryside/rural planning. The first site explores the continuously articulated and connected spaces between building interior, urban interior, and territorial interior, in understanding Alberti's analogy, "A house is a little city." (1452) The second site illustrates architecture as an open boundary and a spatial medium which makes building, urban, and territorial interiors connect and makes them continuous. There is an opportunity of reading the continued relations and the continua of spaces. The third site deals with the form of building that architecture creates for building interior (society of rooms) and urban interior (society of urban rooms), and moderates the interiors. The last site clarifies the territorial interior (society of countryside/rural rooms) that constitutes homogeneous spatiality moderated by architecture between building interior and urban interior. The paper discusses the society of the continued interiors(building/urban/territorial interiors) that ought to be a fundamental truth in the field of every project which deals with a unit of space. It logically clarifies the society of the interiors, not isolated and blocked off but multilayered and continued. It comes to the conclusion that the territorial interior should be subsumed under the design field and the society of the continued rooms ought to be considered as a united object of space in the fields of interior architecture/design, architecture, landscape, urbanism and countryside/rural planning. Ultimately, it aims at offering a departing point of discourse and a theoretical foundation for the future studies on urban interior and territorial interior.
R/V EARDO, commissioned in 1992, has successfully carried out ocean research campaigns in Korean jurisdictional and adjacent waters, including continental margins and coastal zones within the Korean Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), for 29 years. However, it will soon be reaching the end of its useful service life. A replacement for R/V EARDO is urgently needed to ensure the safety of vessel itself and its crews, and efficient ship operation and maintenance, as well as to meet modern scientific mission requirements (SMRs). Basic specifications for a replacement ship have been devised and reviewed over the past nine months. A test of the proposed hull form was also performed. The total tonnage of the proposed vessel is approximately 740 tons, and the overall length and width are 62.0 and 11.6 m, respectively. The new ship will thus be 73% larger than the current R/V EARDO; in particular, the research workspace will be 4.4 times larger. The major design priorities are the propulsion system, efficiency of radiated noise and vibration control, and the dynamic positioning system. An environmentally friendly emission system, meeting International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III regulations, will be installed in the third exhaust pipe. Various wet and dry lab spaces as well as 32 different scientific instruments have also been considered in the ship design.
Purpose: This paper presents research evidence that the environmental design of the doffing area in a biocontainment unit (BCU) can have a measurable impact on increasing the safety of frontline healthcare workers (HCW) during doffing of high-level personal protective equipment (PPE), and proposes optimized biocontainment unit design. Methods: From 2016 to 2019, The SimTigrate Design Lab conducted 3 consecutive studies, focusing on ways in which the built environment may support or hinder safe doffing. In the first study, to identify the risky behaviors, we observed 56 simulation exercises with HCWs in 4 BCUs and 1 high-fidelity BCU mockup. In the second study, we tested the effectiveness of a redesigned doffing area on improving the HCWs performance and used simulation, observation, and rapid prototyping in 1 high-fidelity mockup of a doffing area. In a follow-up study, we used simulation and co-design with HCWs to optimize the design of a safer doffing area in a full-size pediatric BCU mock-up. Results: We identified 11 specific risky behaviors potentially leading to occupational injury, or contamination of the PPE, or of the environment. We developed design strategies to create a space for safer doffing. In the second study, in a redesigned doffing area, the overall performance of HCW improved, and we observed a significant decrease in the number of risky behaviors; some risky behaviors were eliminated. There was a significant decrease in physical and cognitive load for the HCWs. Finally, we propose an optimized layout of a BCU for a safer process of PPE doffing. Implications: The proposed BCU design supports better staff communication, efficiency, and automates safer behaviors. Our findings can be used to develop design guidelines for spaces where patients with other highly infectious diseases are treated when the safety of the patient-facing HCWs is of critical importance.
Manddelberg [9] has shown that a Clifford algebra of a free quadratic space over an arbitrary semi-local ring R in Brawer-Wall group BW(R) is determined by its rank, determinant, and Hasse invariant. In this paper, we prove a corresponding result when R is a full ring.Throughout this paper, unless otherwise specified, we assume that R is a commutative ring having 2 a unit. A quadratic space (V, B, .phi.) over R is a finitely generated projective R-module V with a symmetric bilinear mapping B: V*V.rarw.R which is non-degenerate (i.e., the natural mapping V.rarw.Ho $m_{R}$(V,R) induced by B is an isomorphism), and with a quadratic mapping .phi.: V.rarw.R such that B(x,y)=1/2(.phi.(x+y)-.phi.(x)-.phi.(y)) and .phi.(rx) = $r^{2}$.phi.(x) for all x, y in V and r in R. We denote the group of multiplicative units of R by U9R). If (V, B, .phi.) is a free rank n quadratic space over R with an orthogonal basis { $x_{1}$,.., $x_{n}$}, we will write < $a_{1}$,.., $a_{n}$> for (V, B, .phi.) where the $a_{i}$=.phi.( $x_{i}$) are in U(R), and denote the space by the table [ $a_{ij}$ ] where $a_{ij}$ =B( $x_{i}$, $x_{j}$). In the case n=2 and B( $x_{1}$, $x_{2}$)=1/2 we reserve the notation [a $a_{11}$, $a_{22}$] for the space. A commutative ring R having 2 a unit is called full [10] if for every triple $a_{1}$, $a_{2}$, $a_{3}$ of elements in R with ( $a_{1}$, $a_{2}$, $a_{3}$)=R, there is an element w in R such that $a_{1}$+ $a_{2}$w+ $a_{3}$$w^{2}$=unit.TEX>=unit.t.t.t.
Malaysian modern housing typologies (such as bungalows, semi-detached houses and terrace houses) are influenced by international style and constitute unique regional characteristics because they are modified in accordance with climatic conditions and unique social, ethnic housing cultures. This research identified unique characteristics and planning principles of how rooms and spaces of a house are related and organized into coherent patterns of form and space. For the analysis, we surveyed twenty-two residential precincts that identified twenty-five unit plan types for landed properties built in Ara Damansara, Malaysia. The methodology adopted in this study consisted of a document review and field surveys. It is difficult to find unique characteristics of space organization (except for the location of bathrooms) because the form of terrace houses is standardized and limited in design from the aspect of space organization. However, the organization of bedroom space and kitchen space has strong regional characteristics that have become stereotyped for semi-Ds and bungalows. General guideline for areas of unit plans are proposed based on the results of area analysis. We also found that the areas of L + D and MB increase as the total area of the house increases; however, the remaining rooms do not increase in area as long as they satisfy appropriate standards due to the addition of multi-purpose extra rooms. This study only examined limited cases in Ara Damansara and it is difficult to generalize the findings of other new towns in Malaysia. Nevertheless, it is worthwhile to collect and systematically organize data according to typologies. Finally, the authors were able to understand the unique regional design factors to be considered for landed property housing planning in Malaysia.
Air distribution occupies an important position in the smart unit load container design process for agricultural products. Inner air may be uncomfortable because of its temperature, speed, direction, and volume flow rate. It doesn't matter how efficient the ventilation equipment is if the air is not distributed well. The main aim of this study was to design the inlet and outlet fan locations of smart unit load container for agricultural products. A numerical study was performed on the effects of the location of inlet air and outlet air in relation to the container cooling sources on air distribution and thermal comfort. A concept of combining inner container cooling sources with the exhaust outlet was employed in this investigation. Also, in this research, the developed CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) models were thoroughly validated. This system was adopted for use in container spaces, where the exhaust outlet was located. In this study, the location of the inlet was derived through CFD for a container with a size of 1,100×1,100×1,700 mm, and it was derived that the inlet was located at the center of the lower part of the container for efficient air flow. It was efficient to position the outlet through the air inlet in the center of the lower part of the container at the top of the same side.
